Well this was inevitable. Sucks that Abby has to go down to make way for Williams.

yeah, but as good as Abby has been, he can't score (as of now)... Williams has a great shot and is a good hockey player... He will defiantly help this team MORE in a playoff push than Abdelkadar... still sad to see him go

I hope Williams' shot can benefit the second pp unit. I can see Abdelkader returning in the playoffs.

Leino's contract isn't two-way anymore, is it? It's just May, Miller, and Abdelkader that we have the option of sending down, I think.

that's not how 2 way contracts work... I feel like we've gone over this a million times on this board - 2 way just means what they're paid depending on where they play - waiver exemption is a completely different story and the ONLY Red Wing that is waiver exempt is Abdelkader

Are you sure Helm isn't waiver exempt? (Irrelevant in any case, as he will not be sent down, this is just a theoretical question.)

He has played more than 60 NHL games(and is 23) and is no longer waiver exempt... not that it matters anyway, he's been EASILY one of our 3 best players this year and he could have all the waiver eligibility in the world and it'd be a moot point...

EDIT: edited for factual purposes

Sucks. Had to be done, but it still sucks. I hope to see you in the postseason, Abs!

Yay, someone who understand more about hockey than just the Red Wings and their names!

Everyone saw this coming and if you didn't then brush up on capology 101. Now let's hope when lilja comes back lebeech is waived!

Abdelkader will have his big role next year. I'm hoping he could play on the wing in the future. If he plays center next season, he likely won't get that much ice time (unless Helm plays on the wing). Abdelkader-Helm-Eaves would be the line I'd like to see as our 3rd line next season.

I like the way that line looks and I am with you on wanting to see Abby on the wing. I think Helm is the better centre out of the two.

Think of it this way: the original plan was for Abdelkader to play the entire season in Grand Rapids, with the occasional call-up if we got injuries. Now he has played about 50 games for us. We will probably see him in the playoffs if we get there. Either way he's gotten some very valuable NHL experience and will benefit from it in the future.

Any line combination guesses?

With Williams Returning and Holmstrom/Franzen still out:

Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Cleary/Bertuzzi

Cleary/Bertuzzi - Filppula - Williams

Draper - Helm - Eaves

May/Leino -Miller - Maltby

Leino/May

With Holmstrom returning early next week and Franzen still out:

Bertuzzi - Datsyuk - Holmstrom

Williams - Zetterberg - Cleary

Miller - Filppula - Maltby/Eaves/Leino

Draper - Helm - Eaves/Maltby/May

Leino, May

With Franzen returning:

Bertuzzi - Datsyuk - Holmstrom

Franzen - Zetterberg - Cleary

Miller/Leino - Filppula - Williams

Draper - Helm - Eaves

Maltby, Miller/Leino, (May waived)
