Just read that about a minute ago and was about to post it on here lol. You beat me to it. New Jersey has the chance to make a deep playoff run. Thank god though Kovy will be in the Eastern Conference. The last thing we needed was him going to a team we are battling with for a playoff spot.

This is already being discussed in the thread that is designated for all Kovalchuk trade talk.

Wonder what NJ gave up?

Now we must pray that he hits UFA!!

If he rejected 12 years 101 milllion and 7 years 70 million what makes people think he would sign in Detroit for 7.5 million, or that the Wings could even afford him.

If that kind of money was affordable Hossa wouldn't be a blackhawk.

He rejected that from ATL. He did not want to play there. They were the ones offered him that. Basically they tried everything to keep him.

People are looking into that the wrong way. Just because he didn't take the ATL deal doesn't mean he wants a bigger deal. Maybe he just doesn't wanna be in ATL anymore!!!

I mean is it that hard to imagine that a superstar like Kovalchuk might wanna play for a contender?

Yeah, but now it's official. So we don't need a 200 post thread all about where he might go.

Now we can talk about what this does for the Devils and the rest of the East as well as how happy we are he is not in the West!!

For sure!! And while I would have loved for Detroit to get him, at least I can hope the Devils beat the Pens in the East!! lol

I guess we have a different definition of "all talk goes here."

No but it is hard to imagine he would for that low of a rate. The Wings couldn't keep Hossa for much cheaper than what Kovalchuk will go for. Granted Kovie is a better player but money is the only reason Hossa is gone.

Whether he would want to play here or not, unless Lidstrom flat out retires, there is no way the Wings cna afford Kovalchuk.

Does this really even change the balance of power in the East? I dont believe so, especially if Zajac was part of this deal. Not to mention... Jacques Lemaire is there coach. Kovalchuk cant play great defence and is as close to all out offense as you can get, we'll see how it goes.

Hossa rejected a nine year, $81 million deal with Edmonton to sign a one year deal with Detroit.

He couldn't be extended because Lidstrom was locked in at $7.45 million for this year. Had Lidstrom been a UFA too and come down a bit in price (about $1.5 million), Hossa would probably still be here.

So Bergfors, Oduya are source confirmed.

I heard that Cormier the Elbow King might be the prospect...and then a pick too???

NJ better re-sign this guy or win the cup.

Who replaces Oduya on the blue line?

Yes probably...but I do not see Kovalchuk signing the same contract as Hossa did in Chicago.

This team is so tight to cap this year that 2 players coming back from injury means we need to give away 2 million dollars worth of salary to get them back...

Do people really want to see it get any tighter against the cap???

I don't.
