This is for all the suffering Wings fans--this shows the Wings arnt as bad as you think--yet!

www.detroithockey.net/history/schedule/1986.php

just remember --it could be worse!!

Yeah, but those teams had no talent, thus they weren't underachieving.

This team is more disappointing.

I don't want to watch another team win the Stanley Cup if we're not one of the teams trying to beat them. I don't know....I'm the same way with baseball. If the Yankees don't make the playoffs or are bounced out before the WS, I don't watch. It's like.....I don't want to watch some other team win something I wanted my team to win.

The playoffs are the only time of year for either sport where I put the team before the sport as a whole. During the regular season, I watch as many games as I can, regardless of who is playing.

I see your point, but for me I enjoy seeing the playoffs as a whole. It doesn't matter who wins the cup to me unless it is the Wings. I just like the intensity of the playoffs. I mean those OT games are so thrilling to me.

How'd you come to be both a Yankees and Wings fan?

How'd you come to be both a Yankees and Wings fan?

Wings fan -- Started out initially to annoy my dad, who is a die-hard Blackhawks fan.

Yankees fan -- Best friend in school was from New York, went to a few White Sox/Yankees games with her and her parents and got sucked in.

Been a fan of both teams for a little over 15 years now.

I'm not trying to make excuses for the Wings, because they aren't playing anywhere near the level they need to be. But Hossa, Sammy, and Hudler aren't easily replaced. Yeah We still have Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Franzen (who's only played 5 games), but to say we have the same offensive core is ridiculous.

Sorry, maybe I should've said "similar" instead. Our top two lines are pretty much still there, Dats, Zetts, Franzen, Holmstrom, Cleary. Yes I do understand that we have lost Hossa, Sammy, and Hudler, but like I said, I feel this team should at least have a 5th seed right now. Don't forget who we've aquired. Bertuzzi should have a 20 or more goal season if he picks it up a little, he did decent while Franzen was out. Also, the DHE line is a nice jump-starter on offense. So yes, we still do have a decent offense, not as good a last year, but one that shouldn't be letting all of these important games go by one goal.

Well at least Franzen is in touch with reality - this quote from the freep article about this game:

I think we played good. We played with a lot of speed, Franzen said. It looked like last year, not like the past two months here.

Edit: Pavel, you are right. We were both writing about the mule at the same time. Great minds...

This team does look far better than most efforts we've seen in a month or so. If they keep giving the effort they did tonight they will be in the playoffs, and they will be a scary lower seed team to play.

Calgary scores and will take it to OT. Damnit.

edit again, Calgary goal SHOULD be waved off, spectacular/lucky save by Turco. We'll see how it turns out.

As Canadaboy says, No goal! Good call.

We did good tonight, got a point from San Jose, the #1 team in the league. We took 3 games from them already, like I said earlier, not likely we were going to take 4 and sweep the series. So 7 out of a possible 8 with SJ ... I can live with that.

Unlike the 1 pt from St. Louis which I was severly disappointed at, tonight, I can sleep well. Good effort. What can you do when opposing goalie stops 50 out of 52 shots? Go and get 2 from the Sens.

You know what else really pisses me off? Bert and Franzen were once the same player. Bert has turned into such a ******* ***** that it makes my ass ache. I've been a supporter all year, but I'm done. He brings zero nad to the table.

One of his absolute worst qualities is how he seems to have no feel for who's hot and who's not in any given game.

Like tonight, Bert was cold as hell, invisible really. And he has been for a while. Meanwhile, Mule was everywhere, had a great goal and was close to having more.

Yet Bert gets to go before Franzen. I don't care that he's rusty, shootouts are so much about confidence and just being hungry to score.

Datsyuk-Franzen-Williams-Zetterberg-Filppula-Bertuzzi

Something like that the SO order should be imo.

Btw, to the people putting this loss on Zetterberg and Datsyuk: I thought the both looked great tonight. Certainly outplayed Marley-Heatley-Thornton. Datsyuk had a couple of bad giveaways which is out of character and he missed a great opportunity but he also drew a couple of penalties and was involved in a lot offensively. Z looked like he had more jump than he's had in a while and did some really good things that sadly often lead nowhere but he tried atleast.

Totally agreed. This game again was about 3 epic failures: 1) At least one serious defensive breakdown that is at the level of bantam hockey. 2) Inability to capitalize on the power play and 3) inability to score shoot-out goals. When points and playoffs are up for grabs one must ask....why?

Bert is older, and makes less than half as much. I'd say the Wings have easily gotten their moneys worth out of him, and he's really picked it up since the start of the season.

im with you on that one

hockey playoffs are always fun to watch even if your team isnt in it.

us detroit fans havent been able to say that because the red wings havent missed the playoffs since 1990..

Has any team been worse in shootouts than Detroit since they were implemented? I doubt it.

Once again we get a measly point. 4 wins in the last 16 games. ******* lame for a team trying to make a playoff push.

I've made this argument before: If you are fighting for a playoff spot you figure out how to get points wherever you can. Either shootouts are not considered important in practice by the coaching staff or the players are not executing. In either case the coaching staff should be held accountable. After 60 minutes of hockey, pissing away points like this indicates to me that there is something wrong with this team.

I've watched 2 games with Franzen back and now remember what it's like when a big guys finishes checks. Same with Homer for that matter. Yes, Bert has scored some big goals this year, but he has no heart and no drive. The guy will only perform as well as he thinks he has to.

Nothing to complain about in this game, really. Wings were getting robbed like hell by Nabby and still managed to take the #1 team in the league to OT and get a point out of it. The important thing to me is the Red Wings looked like the goddamned Red wings tonight.

Agree. If they can bring hte same intensity to every game, I think we'll be solidely in the playoffs by the end of march. Now the question is if they can bring that level every night.
