Holmstrom won't play in the Olympics - Franzen take his spot

Sorry to hear that Homer can't play for his country, but IMO this is probably one of the best case scenarios for the Wings. It will give Homer a chance to rest, and heal up, and Franzen will get even more games to get up to midseason form.

Now, just don't get injured in the games!

But I thought Sweden was sure that Franzen couldn't possibly be ready?

It seems kind of unprofessional to play somebody that obviously isn't healthy.

All joking aside, as much as I love Holmstrom, Franzen is an upgrade. Sweden got a little bit better here.

Does anybody think this might mean Holmstrom is retiring after the season? I recall him saying before the season that he'd see how it went for health, and base his decision off of that. It seems that this would indicate he might choose to hang them up.

I sure hope not!!

This is too convenient to be coincidence. This was orchestrated by Kenny. Homer could have played, but mysteriously, with the Wings in the lead and the majority of the game being over, Homer's knee starts to get sore during the last game beofre the Olympics.

I'm not arguing that Homer's injury is a farce. I'm sure it's real, albeit playable. So everyone's right. Homer rests, while Franzen plays to get his legs back. Win-win, and most definitely staged.

Well what do you expect? Bettman plans to one day merge the NHL and the WWE.

I would have prefered it if Franzen and Homer both played and Modin didn't, but basically I wanted Franzen on the team no matter the cost so this works too.

Too bad for Homer but some rest will do him good. Hopefully he's 100% when the break is over, and Franzen is up to speed (if he isn't already).

So the lines are:

Sedin-Sedin-Weinhandl

Forsberg-Backstrom-Alfredsson

Eriksson-Zetterberg-Franzen

Modin-Pahlsson-Hornqvist

Wow. Those are actually pretty solid lines. I think the Swedes might be a little underestimated with all of the Canada-Russia talk.

1-3rd line dont matter to the coach, its just the 4th thats a checking line and 3 scoring lines with equal amount of TOI

Well I know the Sedins will probably get the first PP shift but I hope Zetterberg gets the second shift.

I could see 4redwings + alfredsson in one pp-unit although i know alfredsson likes to play the point...

Why are they speculating that Zetterberg will play on the third line?

Who are they? Nobody knows what the lines will be so it's all speculating. IMO, it isn't unreasonable to say Sedin and Backstom is on the first and second line with the season Zetterberg is having unless he will play wing. But in reality it would be more like 1a, 1b and 1c line for even scoring with a fourth being the shutdown line.

good news as long as there are no injuries.

How the hell did Forsberg end up on the 2nd line... he hasn't been injured yet?

He's been injured throughout the season, but that won't stop him. Where would you put him if not the second line?
