GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 What the hell has happened to this guy? He was our best player earlier this season and now he looks disinterested. Is he injured, is he a guy that only steps up when others are hurt, or is he just plain lazy and sucky? Honestly, I can't believe how quickly he went from being awesome to being invisible out there. I know he assisted in this game, but he just has no scoring touch anymore.

Rice 42 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 Should've never signed him. The Wings could've really used that $1.5 million in extra cap space today! On a serious note, no clue what happened to Bertuzzi.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 Bert wasnt great today, but he isnt paid to be. He's only shown chemistry with 1 player on this team, and Babcock wont put him with Datsyuk. I'd just as soon re-connect our dynamite playoff line of Cleary-Zetterberg-Franzen, stick Bertuzzi with Holmstrom and Datsyuk (because if Datsyuk is as good as we think he is, he can play fine with these two, Crosby put up seasons of 100 points with Recchi, LeClaire, Guerin, Fedetenko, etc. who arent better then Homer or Bert) That last bit was just for you GMR I think he can still be a good player, right situations and a bit harder work and he'll be fine. He wasnt the only forward that struggled tonight.
Yellowknife Redwing 57 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 Outside of his prime years, Bert has always been a streaky scorer. He did this identical routine in Calgary last year. He looked positively brilliant for a stretch and then disappeared almost entirely. I don't think he's gelled well with Zetterberg and he's no spring chicken anymore. For $1.5M I think he's done the job that was asked of him so far. Here's hoping he heats back up in the stretch because we're really going to need it. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 I was thinking the same. He looked good the first half of the season, and since he has just sucked. I'm sick of the "maybe he's injured" excuse.

stillwater 186 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 Rarely complain about players, but Bertuzzi's the ultimate underachiever. The numbers he's put up, playing with the best players the Wings have, are brutal. Bert's the only guy I wish had been moved today.

king_malice 17 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 Ever since the whole Moore thing Bertuzzi has lost everything he is softer then Lebda. It makes me so mad seeing this guy play now compared to the pre-moore days he would hit everything, fight, take the puck hard to the net. Now its drop passes and turnovers. stillwater 186 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 Yeah, and the "best players" are doing awesome too Datsyuk is playing pretty well in the last month or so, Zetterberg, not so much. Maybe it's to due with the fact that they're stuck with Bertuzzi.

Good players make players around them better. Not saying Bertuzzi is great or anything. He is what he is. A borderline top 6 forward. If Datsyuk and Zetterberg are anywhere near what most of them think they are they would be able to produce.
king_malice 17 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 (edited) Franzen-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi Holmstrom-Zetterberg-Cleary Miller-Filppula-Williams Eaves-Helm-Draper I think Berts gotta start playing with Dats he played better with him then he is playing with Z. I'd also like to see Abby instead of Miller in the line-up it seems like Abby is the only one that like to go hard every shift. hoogs 8 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 Ill say it again, Bertuzzi sucks and sucks bad. Of course he scored when half our team was hurt and he was put on a line with the best disher in hockey. You could have thrown one of us on the ice in front of the net and we would have scored with Datsyuk feeding us. Bertuzzi is a shadow of himself and I hope he is demoted to the 3rd or 4th line because that is where he belongs.

And should only be used sparingly in the top 6, like earlier in the year. Expecting Bertuzzi to keep up a 30 goal 70 point season isn't going to happen. He's a secondary scoring replacement that was signed to replace Sammy and fill in the unexpected absence of Hudler. One 1.5 million dollar forward is not a major concern for the Wings right now. AIK'91 22 Report post Posted March 4, 2010 It seems like there have been three phases to Bertuzzi's season thus far. To start the year, he just seemed snakebit and was getting chances with only a lot of posts to show for it. But, it was really the first time in his career he seemed to have a solid commitment on the backcheck. Then, he obviously started that offensive tear on Pavel's line when everyone got injured. But now, he seems to be completely emotionally detached from the game. Not only is he not doing anything in the offensive zone, he seems to be floating around everywhere on the ice. I guess that's why he's always been as inconsistent as they come. But really, I'm more worried about Datsyuk and Franzen maintaining their recent play and for Z to somehow snap out of his funk. Pucks 66 Report post Posted March 6, 2010 The guy had a hot streak where he scored a bunch of weak ass goals, Like from behind the net and from the side boards. Suddenly everyone thinks OMG it's the old Bert. His problem is he tries to played a skilled game when he should be playing a power game. His hands are nice for big man, but his brain is not in sync. Just look at that brutal attempt at a breakaway last night. Really? just top shelf the damn puck. If Holland gives the guy more money next year it will all be over payment. The wings are seeing what every other team has seen, inconsistency, frustration. At 1.5, he's earning his money though.
