Claude Lemieux Appreciation Night

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this has been posted anywhere else but I was taking a peek at the Coyotes board (yes apparently they have one) and I guess tonight is Claude Lemieux appreciation night and he will do the ceremonial puck drop... Hmm what a coincidence <_<

I hope this gets the playoff juices flowing even more for our boys and this turns around to backfire on the Yotes.

EDIT: I guess this is for game 2 on Friday but nonetheless I think it is dumb.

COYOTES ANNOUNCE 4/16 AS CLAUDE LEMIEUX APPRECIATION NIGHT

Glendale Az - The Phoenix Coyotes will host their first playoff game in eight years when they face off against the Detroit Redwings at Jobing.com Arena for Game 1 of the best-of-seven Western Conference quarterfinals. This will mark the first playoff game at Jobing.com arena and a return of the playoff White Out. A tradition that started when the franchise was located in Winnipeg and was adopted by Phoenix fans when the Coyotes first arrived for the 1996 season.

The Coyotes announced Wednesday that they would be honoring one of the key members of their last playoff run in a pregame ceremony. Phoenix Coyote Management, Czar Doug Maloney stated that the club will honor Claude Lemieux with a temporary induction into the Coyotes Ring of Honor as well as a Jersey presentation before the first puck drops for Game 2 on Friday Night.

"The Coyotes have taken pride in honoring players who have had a direct impact on the Phoenix Coyotes," said General Manager Doug Maloney. "We are building tradition here in the desert. At this time we feel the next logical step is to honor Claude's efforts." Lemieux will join the likes of Thomas Steen and Dale Hawerchuk in the ring for the entirety of the 2009/2010 playoffs

In addition to the banner ceremony, Lemieux will drop the ceremonial first puck and a check for $81 will be issued to Coyotes Charities for the 81 points Lemieux had in three seasons with the Coyotes.

Gee, this isn't transparent or anything.

Well, I'd like to thank Claude Lemieux for starting one of the best rivalries in pro sports and for getting the Wings fired up to beat the Avalanche. I'd also like to thank him for getting the s*** beaten out of him in the process as part of a game that was one of the best in recent memory.

Other than that, f*** off, Claude... and these douchebags in the Coyotes front office are acting like children.

That's the best they can do? How about Roenick, Hull (either one), Hawerchuk, or hell even Gretzky!

Hull would be an even worse choice.

When I first saw this I was like...huh? I totally forgot he even played for them, which shows how important he was to the organization. This is really similar (not the same), but almost like retiring a guys jersey and Lemieux and Phoenix, this is so wrong.

I'm with others in thinking this is just going to have the opposite impact they are looking for. Then again, I think that's more from a fan perspective, from the players perspective, I don't think it's really going to matter at all.

Yea I think it'll fire up the Wings fan more than anything else, and I wouldn't expect it would create a huge buzz with the Coyotes fans. Very lame!

Again, I don't think it was thought out well by Phoenix. If they want to keep the Wings fan quiet, why have our most hated opponent make an appearance?
