HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted April 30, 2010 OK I can't sit on this one any longer...Get Bert off the Hank line now. Tired of the lazy one hand on the stick thing, tired of the blown passes and the fouled up dekes. Val and Hank work way too hard to have that plug on the line. Cleary, although hasn't been lights out either, fits with those two beyond what Bert has done.

How does this translate into not keeping him on that line, and rather breaking up the line that has been our most successful in the playoffs so far?

How does this translate into not keeping him on that line, and rather breaking up the line that has been our most successful in the playoffs so far? Yes he did have success with those 2 but Bert has done NOTHING. Most successful due to Bert touching the puck and getting a lucky assist. Cleary will get in there and mix it up, work for the puck, keep it in the zone. Ya know, little things to win a playoff series. #'s may not lie but the trained hockey eye doesn't either. Bert is one of the biggest bodies out on the ice. He makes a difference. He is part of the line's success. I'm thinking Babcock possesses a better-trained hockey eye than any of us. HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted April 30, 2010 I'm convinced people choose not to see what Bertuzzi does well. Which aside from the comment, would love to hear what you think that is lol Agreed the Babs is the best eye there is, just questioning why he has stayed with them. Blowing tires, passes, its all out there to see. I want to be proved wrong but Cleary just brings a better element with those 2.

Cleary had zero until last night. Last night was his first good game of the playoffs. If he stays hot, I'm thinking he'll stay with Franzen and Datsyuk. Holmstrom just isn't fast enough to keep up on 5v5 at the moment.

Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted April 30, 2010 Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Filppula/Holmstrom Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary That 2nd line was awesome last playoffs i'd rather see eaves on the wing in place of cleary. have him on left wing to get Z someone to pass to for quick one-timers on that side as Z likes to play on the right boards alot more than the left. Thanks for your contributions to the Red Wings organization, hopefully we can work out a payment of some sort for your extraordinary hockey insight. 2 MacAttack25 and Zeowingsfan reacted to this
BUHdactyl 23 Report post Posted April 30, 2010 I can't believe people still try to bash on Bertuzzi. If anyone deserves to be bashed it's Kronwall for being such a turd this time around. Cleary was great last night but do you honestly think it'd be in the team's best interest to break up the second line when Cleary did so well on the first? Who would you replace Cleary with on the first line? As much as I love the guy Homer isn't cutting it right now and he's not doing too bad on his new line. The only logical move if a change MUST happen would be to swap Cleary with Bertuzzi since Bert had good chemistry with Datsyuk earlier in the season. Other than that keep it how it is, we'll be just fine.

You are quite welcome...Put Bert on the Abdelkader line like Cleary is right now and see what he does. By the way, The Todd Bertuzzi Fan Club costs money so if you could please make your annual contribution, would greatly appreciate it. On a lighter note....Huds is back!!! Cleary, although hasn't been lights out either, fits with those two beyond what Bert has done. Bert has his annoying tendencies but he's been doing a good job creating havoc in front of the opposition's net, and it adds up to goals that he doesn't get on the scoresheet for. As for last night, Flip had an awful game, he lost the puck every time he touched it or misfired on some errant pass. I expect him to be better Sunday because he has been tremendous so far in the playoffs, but last night he was primary culprit on that line.

MCleveland89 122 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 He does exactly what he needs to do. Pisses off everyone around the other team's net. I also think it's funny how fast people forget that when our best goal scorers were out injured, he was the one scoring a ton of goals to keep the Wings alive. Cleary, although hasn't been lights out either, fits with those two beyond what Bert has done. Until last game, Cleary has been not been noticable whatsoever in neither a good/bad way. Lack of playing time probably has something to do with it but Bertuzzi contributed more last series than Cleary did. Phoenix is/was a good team and it's not like the Wings are dragging rear end out there for the most part. The lines overall have been fine.

UP Wings Fan 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 (edited) Heres a line that I think would be very effective when the Wings are 5 on 5 and need a goal like at the end of game 1 Dats-Z-Franzen Frazen's willingness to go to the net and his playmaking ability away from the net, matched with Datsyuk's pure puck skills and scoring touch, along with Z's shear determination and playmaking anticipation. In my opinion would make this line un-stoppable! Edited May 1, 2010 by UP Wings Fan
