F2B&G 15 Report post Posted August 3, 2010 Anyone want to place bets on how long until we see the first "Modano sucks and is lazy" thread. This is a boom or bust signing, IMO. He'll get some chemistry going with Hudler and Cleary and it'll be a legitimate third scoring line, or our bottom six is in trouble again.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted August 3, 2010 (edited) And out of Dallas... http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/hockey/stars/stories/080310dnspostarsmodano.171c7170.html According to the Detroit Free Press, Mike Modano will join the Detroit Red Wings.Modano, who has played all 22 years for the North Stars/Stars organization and has lived in Dallas since 1993, texted to the newspaper: "Big announcement Thursday." Sources confirmed the highest-scoring American-born player in NHL history will join Detroit. Modano's parents still live in the Detroit area, but he knows it will be a big change in lifestyle to move. The fact the Red Wings are a veteran team also factored into his decision, he told SportsDayDFW.com last month. "They are a group of 30-year-olds and not 20-year-olds, and I think that makes a difference,'' he said on July 20. "I do think I could fit in there.'' Detroit has offered Modano a one-year contract at $1.25 million to center the third line. Modano made $2.25 million last season for the Stars. Guest Crymson Report post Posted August 3, 2010 OH MY......meh And at 1.25 mil? Stevie Y didn't even make that much his final year. Gee, now you'll need to ***** and moan at the deadline about how we can't do anything to give you excitement; we'll have no cap space. You'll complain about anything. 1 cjm502 reacted to this
Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted August 3, 2010 "Big announcement" is, Modano has decided to retire because his wife wants him to play in California or retire. He claims he wanted to play in Detroit, but he's too whipped. In other news, Kenny signs Arron Asham and Shane Hnidy.

moefolds 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2010 Personally I hope this is true, as I believe it can be another great signing of an older player for the wings. You can never have too many snipers on your power play. Anyone think he would wear #6? 9 flipped upside down.

Guest VAL FILPPULA Report post Posted August 3, 2010 Why 27? I don't know the specific reason. I heard something about that. I think he wore that number for Team USA (?) Personally I hope this is true, as I believe it can be another great signing of an older player for the wings. You can never have too many snipers on your power play. Anyone think he would wear #6? 9 flipped upside down. No. 6 is a retired number. It isn't in the rafters though 1 55fan reacted to this

cjm502 165 Report post Posted August 3, 2010 So which forward do we move, Miller or Ritola? And what could we get in return? Most likely both. If we move just one we will be carrying 14 forwards.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted August 3, 2010 I'd rather lose Ritola. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this
Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted August 3, 2010 Most likely both. If we move just one we will be carrying 14 forwards. Nothing wrong with having 14 forwards. Especially since we don't have many (any) NHL ready forwards in GR. I can't see moving both unless it was to bring in a defenseman.
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted August 3, 2010 How about 88 for his draft year?

moefolds 0 Report post Posted August 3, 2010 Wow, never heard of Larry Aurie, just wikid him. Its weird that Illich won't put his number in the rafters. I always wondered why no one wore 6 on the wings. Thanks guys, learn something new everyday. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Aurie
