meaning

Comrie Staal Malkin

or

Malkin Staal Tangradi,

Cooke Comrie Kennedy

I'm thinkin

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis

Malkin-Staal-Comrie/Tangradi if he's ready/other young guy

Cooke(Comrie)-Talbot-Kennedy/Asham

Kennedy/Asham, Rupp, Adams, (Cooke)

Not half bad if you ignore Crosby's wingers

What's the deal with Comrie? He has 20 and 30 goal seasons but no team seems to want to keep him. Is he too much of a jaggoff? Too lazy on D? Whats the deal?

Unless I'm getting him mixed up, he's known to be extremely lazy and not a very good team player.

Yeah I'm not a Pens fan but it would be nice to see what he could do with some good wingers on his line.

Paul Martin isn't as good as Gonchar (who was on the decline anyway), but he'll fill in nicely. I don't expect to see any significant decline on their blueline, which is arguably one of the better in the Eastern Conference.

Their philosophy when it comes to their forwards is puzzling. They are extremely deep down the middle, yet they don't have a single top-six winger. They've got arguably the best playmaker in the world, and probably two of the top five, yet they won't provide them with anybody capable of scoring.

Martin supposedly has some offensive potential that NJ wasn't capitalizing on, but overall they don't have much in the way of scoring from the blue line. Letang and Goligoski have a bit of skill, but they don't have a real PP quarterback. I think they will struggle quite a bit without Gonchar, especially on the PP. Unless maybe Martin and Michalek can really step up thier game. Defensively they should be fine, though. Very solid in that respect.

In regards to their forwards; they're spending almost as much for Crosby, Malkin, Staal, and Kunitz as we are on Pav, Hank, Franzen, Flip, Hudler, and Cleary. They need to get someone better than Kunitz for the money they're paying him, then either trade Malkin or Staal, or convert one to wing. You just can't spend $25M+ on four forwards and then not get consistent top 6 production from them.

Martin never impressed me on the Devils. He was on their powerplay and out there for every big situation where they needed a goal and never really put up points. Gonchar is a HUGE loss on their powerplay. I can't tell you how many times the Pens score a goal off a Gonchar blast whether it be deflected in or off a rebound. Letang could be that guy to fill that role but when Gonchar was injured and he stepped in, and he couldn't hit the net if his life depended on it.

I don't see them being better defensively. Martin is as good as Gonchar defensively (and that's not saying much). Letang and Gologoski are offensive defensemen with little defensive skills. It remains to be seen just how good Michalek is in the Pens system. The 6th d-man played in the AHL last year. Only Orpik is certain to be solid on defense and even that is kind of questionable. He can hit, block shots and knock the puck off your stick, but sometimes when he handles he's really careless. The Pens spent $9 mil on Martin and Michalek this off season. I think they would have been much better off defensively, signing Volchenkov ($4.5) and Hamhuis ($4.5).

Gonchar had 50 points last year and 65 two years before. Martin had 37 in his BEST year .

I'm thinking that I'd rather have Pronger or Chara on the blue line than Paul Martin. Just my opinion...

It's said that he has an absolutely horrible attitude on the ice and in the locker room.

Salary cap....but yeah losing Gonchar is a bigger loss than most people think. Sure they got Martin but Gonchar was a big cog in their machine. He quarterbacked a lot of plays and generated a lot of offense. Something Martin doesnt replace.

No doubt there, but I think he was saying that the Pens defense as a whole is one of the better in the East, and I'd agree.

Philly is probably better, and a few others are close, but not many teams even in the West are notably superior. They still need a 6/7th (McKee maybe), but they look solid so far. Defensively that is. Not a lot of scoring there though.

PP is probably going to suck. They haven't been very good in the past two years, even with Gonchar.

They're looking at something like this.

Kunitz-Just a Tool-Dupuis

Talbot-Malkin-Comrie

Cooke-Staal-Kennedy

Rupp-Adams-Godard

Martin-Michalek

Orpik-Letang

Goligoski-Lovejoy

Fleury

Fixed it for ya.

Well there is a catch to having Comrie on your team. Nobody wants Hillary Duff in their arena.
