Guest Heaten Report post Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) I post at HFboards (as well as LGW) to read the dramas around the league. It's ironic that Ducks fans on HF are always quick to post that players around the league are soft and their fans need to grow a pair, then go on to say the league is becoming bush league for all the "tick-tack" calls and suspensions every year... but NOW that Shane Doan has wiped out two of their players (Fowler and Sexton), they are crying foul and demand a suspension. What happen to all the talk about "fans need to grow a pair" now that Doan smeared a couple of their guys? Wait, now a suspension is in order? Hypocrisy sure is tasty! j.hoop 64 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 not sure how i feel about the hit. doesnt seem to be blindside, but also appears to be a headshot. i hate doan though so i could be biased.
seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 Looks like a textbook blindside hit to the head to me. And although people may say it was late, technically Sexton was still in possession of the puck.
jollymania 162 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 not enough good angles, doan is simply taller than sexton, it isn't a premeditated headhsot, here is significant shoulder to shoulder contact so it shouldn't fit under the new rule not too late
egroen 384 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) It's certainly close enough that any self-respecting Duck's fan would scoff at any evidence, dismiss it outright, call everyone else sissies and then go back to staring at his George Parros poster. acidroach420 25 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 looks like shoulder to head to me. the ducks player is just shorter. I'd say clean hit.

Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) The timing was close. I could see one ref calling that hit fair and another ref calling it a late hit. It also looks like the East-West contact to the head the league is really trying to step down on in contrast to a North-South hit. The slow-mo replay shows that Sexton's head turns in synch with Doan's shoulder so I don't doubt that contact to the head was made, although I don't think it was the main point of contact. It appears (whatever that means) that Doan leaned into his head hard enough to kink Sexton's neck a bit but made full contact in the chest/shoulder area. I can definitely see a suspension coming out of this, but with this league who the hell knows? I'd certainly be pissed if that was Kronwall getting hit. At the same time, Sexton was really admiring his pass so I feel like he's at least a bit responsible for his injury. After 2 seconds of the puck leaving your blade you should be focusing on your surroundings again. Edited October 18, 2010 by Echolalia

Swayze 81 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 Bad hit, completely unnecessary, there was ample time between when Sexton passed and when Doan decided to hit for him to stop, and it was a headshot (shoulder-to-head, but still).
TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) Yeah, they're definitely hypocrites. And that hit wasn't even near as bad as Brown's hit on Hudler a few years back. That being said, any player that lays down a dirty hit like that needs to be punished in some way. Edited October 18, 2010 by TheDetroitRedWings
kook_10 1,705 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) ehhh...I hate the Ducks as much as anyone, but that's a late hit. He didn't commit to it until the puck was gone, and then took two strides to make it. I don't think it was a textbook blindside, but he probably didn't expect to be hit so late. In the new vocabulary of the league though it was "predatory". Edited October 18, 2010 by kook_10
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) Granted, these occurred under different rulebooks, but its pretty hard to sympathize with a team like the Ducks... NOTE: Definitely not intended to rehash the argument over the legality of the Brown-Hudler hit, that's what archives are for. Just "for your consideration" stuff. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted October 18, 2010 Because the Ducks tend to goon it up, that somehow affects this kind of hit? It was definitely late, the puck was up past Selanne at that time the hit was made. It was east west, and looked like it contacted the head. That seems predatory to me. about half the time I think Doan plays a hard nosed game that I like, but then the other half I think he's a total d-bag. This is definitely the latter. Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted October 18, 2010 (edited) I find it funny that Ducks fans are mad about another team's player being dirty. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. They can dish it out but they sure can't take it can they? Doan has a history of cheapshots. He likes hitting guys from behind. That isn't tough hockey. Edited October 18, 2010 by Hatethedrake! Guest Shoreline Report post Posted October 18, 2010 I honestly don't care what some other team's fans from another board think but it seemed like a late blind side hit and pretty borderline suspension worthy. It can go either way. Since it's the Ducks though I probably won't feel too bad.
