HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted May 11, 2011 Just rings true that as your leadoff hitter goes, so does most of the team. Having A Jack set the tone is insanely important.
Travis 576 Report post Posted May 12, 2011 Indeed, his bat finding life along with the Tigers isn't a coincidence. Another big win today. Sucks to give the lead up, but it says a lot for them to come back and win late. 2nd place in the Central now, too!
Jusek 437 Report post Posted May 12, 2011 V-Mart and Peralta are on fire! Keep winning, Tigers!

HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted May 18, 2011 Yeah, sad loss with the passing of one of the great home run hitters the game has ever seen. RIP Harmon Killebrew--June 29, 1936 – May 17, 2011
HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted May 18, 2011 Off to Beantown to face the Sox. Would like to take 1 of these 2 and a really solid pitching matchup tomorrow night. Beckett/Verlander, I shall be tuned in for that one.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted May 18, 2011 Rumors swirling today the Tigers are going to send Coke back to the bullpen soon and call up Andy Oliver to take his place in the rotation. Also looks like Charlie Furbush, who has been brilliant at Toledo, will be called up to hopefully replace Brad Thomas in the bullpen. Maybe Benoit goes on the DL, but something has to give in the pen very soon. Coke hasn't been all that bad as a starter. Couple of rough starts and a few others he deserved better with no run support. It's pretty clear now though he has more value to the Tigers in the bullpen since Benoit has been a complete bust and Ryan Perry may reach his potential by 2020. The starters are pitching too well for the team to give away wins late in games. Besides, I want to see Andy Oliver back in a Tigers uniform. Seriously, the rotation will be sick if he lives up to the hype. He has better stuff than Porcello and add that to JV and Scherzer and the Tigers pitching is set for years to come. Travis 576 Report post Posted May 18, 2011 Yeah, I was reading that today on Bless You Boys. I had already called Coke back to the 'pen; but I didn't think it would happen so soon. Benoit is (obviously) not worth the cash to this point and Coke's middle relief was so important to the team last year. If we can call someone else up to shore up the rotation as a 4th start, then Coke should go back to the 'pen. I'd much rather see Coke in middle relief with appearances by Villareal and use Albuquerque as the set-up man until Benoit figures out what's wrong. Perry and Schlereth can take there Wolf Pack thing elsewhere for all I care.

HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted May 19, 2011 Well keep the motivational posts for Coke guys. That was by far one of the better pitching performances of the year by any Tigers' starter, especially given the lineup he had to face and conditions. We will see what happens, but I am still with all of you with him going back to the pen to be that lefty specialist that is always needed. He could potentially be the best in the bigs in that actual role. Great start Cokie Monster!!!!!
Travis 576 Report post Posted May 19, 2011 I don't even know that Coke needs to come out of the 'pen as a lefty specialist. He's a great middle reliever capable of pitching almost every day if need be and that is what this team lacks. If they don't get a quality start from any one guy in the rotation then they're in trouble. Pereth (Perry / Schelerth) is absolutely worthless at this point and Benoit is having issues. If we could hand the ball off to Coke and follow it up with Alburquerque, Villareal, and - on a limited basis - Benoit (until he improves) before giving it to Papa Grande then I'm much happier with this team's bullpen. HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted May 20, 2011 Fought back last night. I liked both games for us against a pretty talented team. Losing is never good but let's go into s***sburgh and get it done
MGreenberg 105 Report post Posted May 22, 2011 (edited) God I wish the Tigers weren't so mediocre. Its like I checked the standings a week ago or something and the Tigers were on five game winning streak then I look today and they are on a five game losing streak. Really sucks to only have one good team in Detroit with the Wings. But at least the Lions might be promising this year. HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted May 23, 2011 Yeah, WTF is this team? Winning streak followed by a losing streak. It's frustrating to an insane degree. The starting pitching has been so good and then we can't hit or the bullpen comes in and s***s the bed. Inconsistency to any team will end with us around 3rd place at this rate. Thankfully, this division is horrible and might keep us in it.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted May 23, 2011 The Tigers are just an average team. No different than any of the past couple years. Sad thing is if they could somehow sneak into the playoffs, they could be like the Giants and win it all with starting pitching.
Travis 576 Report post Posted May 23, 2011 Life would be a lot easier with a better bullpen, but the bats have to start working.
