dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) Holy overpayment Batman!!! So if you add everything up Boston got/gets: Toronto's '10 and '11 1st round pick Toronto's 2nd round 2010 selection Kaberle Toronto got/gets: Kessel Colborne Boston's 2011 first round pick Conditional pick (2nd rounder if he re-signs or cup final appearance) I think that's right. On top of that Boston had to give up Wheeler and Stuart to make room for Kaberle. EDIT: I know Burke has stated that he wouldn't trade him unless he got "reasonable offers" but for that price a few teams must of been in play. HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted February 18, 2011 Yeah, I don't think getting rid of a great looking young talent like Wheeler for Kaberle is really what they need. I realize it was to clear Wheeler's salary and they get all these draft picks to possibly get some more younger talent in there. The mishandling of Seguin is kind of boggling to the mind. Kind of indifferent with what Boston got out of this and what they had to give up. Their blue line is almost the opposite of last year's aside from Big Z. I guess that is what their glaring issues were.....
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted February 18, 2011 Can't wait for Burke's press conference today to confirm that this still isn't a rebuild and they fully expect to make the playoffs this year. 3 F2B&G, HankthaTank and anthonyn66 reacted to this

Adding in the trade arounds to re-aquire draft picks, etc. This has got to be some of the most over-done GMing in the league. Anyone but Burke would be fired. All the trades with Anaheim too, just weird.
dirtydangles 1,328 Report post Posted February 18, 2011 i like this trade. for both teams. burke is stripping it down to the young guys and then i fully expect he'll insert some veteran guys where needed for the time being. he has picked up 2 first rounders in this draft from versteeg and kaberle, albeit they are late picks, but still. And he picked up a first rounder from 2008 and got some extra picks. now he just has to avoid signing some washed up players for the rest of the season. ie. not another lebda. cjm502 165 Report post Posted February 18, 2011 Teams have been throwing 1st round picks out like nothing as of late. Drew Miller to team x for a 2011 1st round pick. Yeah, that sounds good.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) That's what, 3 first round picks traded already, and for mid level players? Wow, the upcoming draft really must be that bad! Edited February 18, 2011 by Barrie
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted February 18, 2011 So the Leafs have 11 draft picks this draft coming up... Boston just got stonger no doubt

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted February 19, 2011 Boston's final results: Blake Wheeler, Mark Stuart, Joe Colburne, 2011 1st, and conditional 2011 2nd for Tomas Kaberle, Rich Peverley, Boris Valabik. Huge win on defense, improved offense up front. Peverley doesn't bring Wheeler's size or physical game but is better defensively. Kaberle is a legit #1 defenseman and one of the best PP QBs out there, while Stuart was Boston's #6. Colburne and the two picks are a loss, but that loss can be offset if Valabik's potential can be realized.
dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted February 19, 2011 No matter what I think Kaberle is overrated. Just because he was the only decent Leafs player his value was hyped. He reminds me of Raf in a way, good on the PP but meh defensively.
