So much for the idea the Canucks desperately needed a defenceman.

Guest Hatethedrake!

The Rangers getting Mitchell significantly changes the balance of power in the NHL.

Good move for the Caps right there.

Can't agree. Reeks of desparation. Steckel's an overpayment for Arnott alone. They lose 8 years and give up one of the best faceoff men, and on top of that give up a second round pick for a 36-year-old wih 2 points in his last 14 games (on a team that's been hot during this period).

Gotta think if the Caps don't go all the way to the final, Boudreau and McPhee are out and a rebuilding plan starts.

I agree 100%. The caps got fleeced on that deal. A very serviceable 3rd liner AND a 2 rounder for an old, washed up UFA???

With Backstrom out, the Caps must be really desperate for a half-way decent 2nd line center. Unfortunately for them, Arnott isn't that player anymore.

I like the move for the Caps. Arnott is a big body who plays a playoff type game. He can still shoot the puck a ton and if anything, he provides some much needed leadership for the Caps. They are high on talent and short on Cup experience. Steckel is like eating oatmeal. You can eat it and it fills you up but at the end of the day you'd likely wish you had someting else for breakfast like Frosted Flakes. Arnott can be that calming voice of reason in the locker room come playoff time when things are not going you way all the time. Instead of crapping the bed like the Caps did last year, a guy like Arnott can say to the guys WHOA CALM DOWN. LETS GET OUR GAME GOING NO NEED TO PANIC. He can be a guy like Mark Recchi is for the Bruins. Or Bill Guerin was for the Pens. A seasoned vet who is a winner can only bode well for the Caps. Excellent deal by George McPhee here.

Just got in from work...

Widemen seems to be the most interesting move of the day... That is rather lame. Washington might have improved the most today.

Penner is a stupid move. All that given up for another similar winger to what they already have...

I would have made that trade for Hemsky but not Penner. This guy is constantly overrated and is described as an inconsistent power forward by The Hockey News.

Seriously, he is like a larger Hudler. It makes me think we could get more for Jiri if we were to trade him.
