Shaman 713 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) yet it's acceptable for a $2.8M cap hit for someone who only has 10 more points and has played in 9 more games? Yea but that player also has turned a massive corner, and now is scoring at a .92 ppg rate since December. But other than that its the exact same Edited February 23, 2011 by Shaman464
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 This isn't even a debate on if the Wings should go for him. We don't need a forward. I wouldn't be surprised to see him picked up by another team though. To be completely honest we don't need a defenseman either (unless he's a rental). The Wings are already carrying 8 d-men and have quite a few guys in GR who are in or entering their 3rd years.

Buppy 1,720 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 I'd love to grab him, just no good way to make the cap hit work. We could probably make it work if for some reason he hit recall waivers. Can't really see that happening though. Hopefully, his season is ruined and we can him as a cheap FA this summer.

He might have a reputation of taking bad penalties or being lazy, but when he is on there isnt much the guy is not good at, he is a very well rounded player. If he is cheap this summer I kind of hope we pick him up. If he actually worked his ass off over a whole season and had top 6 ice time I honestly think he has 60-70 point potential. LeftWinger 5,135 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 Your bias and blindness when it comes to players you don't like is amazing. BINGO! We have a winner! I will never like the scrub. He could score 80 goals and be a Hart Trophy winner and I still wouldn't like him. Sorry, just because he is a Red Wing, doesn't mean I have to like him. So, in my opinion, ANYBODY is better than Hudler. Doesn't mean I am right, just will never like him.
Mikeal 60 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 I never remember hearing anything negative about Cleary's work ethic, it was always just that he was expected to be more than he was... I'm not saying Zherdev would never work here, or couldn't turn it around, I just don't see it in him... EDIT - Side note, I thought Zherdev was older than he is... maybe he is still just finding his place and just needs a good kick in the butt from some solid leadership? I remember hearing of Cleary's work ethic. I'm pretty sure you can find quotes of him admitting to it as well.

That's exactly the point, even right now when he's only scoring at the pace he is you're just flat out wrong. Trust me, no one is trying to convince you to like him. You, and any one else, can dislike whomever you want. No one will tell you any different. But when posters come on here and blindly ignore facts and start screaming their heads off about how he's lazy and he sucks it's ridiculous. You can hate him all you want but when you can't admit how well he's doing right now it just shows your ignorance. 3 ogreslayer, stevkrause and hooon reacted to this
ogreslayer 1,069 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 With a cap hit of $2,000,000, UFA status next year and a ton of talent there's virtually zero chance he passes through waivers without being claimed. And yet he did. Guess that chance was slightly better than 0%.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 *? Kindl(7) and ? My bad-- I was thinking of the roster entering training camp when Meech was still up. And yet he did. Guess that chance was slightly better than 0%. Good thing I included the word 'virtually' in front of it.

mmamolo 287 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 I think most should be a little surprised that there wasn't a team out there that wouldn't pick him up. With ~25% of the season remaining teams would only be on the hook for 500k cap hit and the dude has 15 goals which is pretty solid. There are a number of teams who are struggling to score goals (Rangers, Preds, Sabres etc.) that could have grabbed him. If it didn't work out they could have just sent him down to the AHL at which point he msot likely wouldnt report anyways and then the team could suspend him. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 The fact that he wasn't picked up means the word must be out that his work-ethic is unfixable at this point.

I mean not to compare because one is a proven vet and all that but Kovalev was picked up so who knows. Also not the same scenario with Zherdev being placed on waivers but with the way people talk about Kovalev's ethic you would think he barely belongs in the league. But Kovalev is more of a known quantity in Pittsburgh having played there before & supposedly, his former teammate Mario had quite a bit to do with the trade.
