Rick Zombos Ghost 82 Report post Posted March 1, 2011 I thought the calls both ways last night were awful. It was one of those games where i was hoping somewhere ColonBlow Campbell was in his office writing another rant to the head of officiating on how crappy it was. Of course these guys will end up reffing a SCF game.....

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted March 1, 2011 Lombardi is a whiny blowhard, bottom line. This is the same guy that blasted Red Berenson over the coaching of Jack Johnson last year and questioned the integrity of Mike Murphy and got slapped with a $50K fine earlier this year. There's clearly a disconnect somewhere between his brain and his mouth. ^This. Everyone expects Lombardi to run his mouth. Guys like that make me that much prouder of Holland and company. No matter who's interviewing them they're always polite and considerate. Just listenging to Holland or Nill being interviewed tells you how passionate they are about the game and how genuine they are as people.
MulesWillFly93 199 Report post Posted March 1, 2011 Once again, I thought the reffing wasn't too great, but I hardly think it was biased to one team or the other. Lombardi can shut his pie hole. Stoll cracked me up...out of all the soft calls last night, he goes off his nut about one of the most obvious good ones. Whatever, dude.

Nightfall 871 Report post Posted March 1, 2011 As a hockey referee, I would be interested to find out just how many people here have actually reffed a game. Personally, I think anyone complaining about the reffing should put the stripes on and go out there and ref a game sometime.

GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 If I wasn't a Wings fan, I'd probably be saying the same thing. Some wise asses on this forum always assume that the NHL wants the small market teams to win, hence those teams always get calls against the Wings. Just depends on what side you're on. Everyone thinks they're getting hosed. Just natural. What makes this particular situation bad is that I don't expect to hear such whining from a GM.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 It's not the Wings, it's the NHLs officials are the worst in pro sports. They have no idea how to call a game, and there are nights where they decide the outcome. f*** referees

You don't need to have been a ref to be able to spot a good one or bad one just like you don't need to have been a GM to know which ones are the good ones and which ones are the bad ones. 1 GoWings1905 reacted to this
Kira 451 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 I thought it rather interesting that Kari Lehtonen (I apologize if I spelled that wrong) told Homer the other night that he got screwed by the refs and should have had that goal that was called back. And WE get all the breaks???

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 How does he think LA got the 1-0 lead? The calls were horrendous all night, one of the worst officiated games I've seen all season no doubt. LA got the 1-0 lead because Howard turned to his left when Stoll shot the puck, and instead of moving to close the gap against the post when it was clear the shot had missed (and Handzus was the only player in the area) Howard instead stayed put and waited for Handzus to make his move. Howard was able to make a partial kick save on Handzus' shot BETWEEN HOWARD AND THE POST, before swatting it in with his own glove. Had Howard moved against the post while Handzus is gathering that puck, Handzus has to move the puck back out to Kopitar or Stoll and that goal doesn't happen. chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 I was watching an online stream last night and the stream didn't show commercials. Instead, the cameras were still on. After the first intermission, Dean Lombardi was called to the broadcast booth to do an interview. When he got there, he started bitching about two of the penalties called against the Kings (the high-stick on Greene was a bad call). He then said, "Well, it's Detroit." I've heard this from fans before, but I was surprised to hear it from a GM. You would think he would know better than to think Detroit gets a hall pass on every call. Wait a minute. The Kings got there asses kicked. And he's whining about a couple of calls? He should worry more about why they were embarrassed in their own building instead he is crying about the calls? Really? LA got the 1-0 lead because Howard turned to his left when Stoll shot the puck, and instead of moving to close the gap against the post when it was clear the shot had missed (and Handzus was the only player in the area) Howard instead stayed put and waited for Handzus to make his move. Had Howard moved against the post while Handzus is gathering that puck, Handzus has to move the puck back out to Kopitar or Stoll and that goal doesn't happen. Oh s***! Why didn't he think of that? Stupid Howard. Maybe you should give him some pointers.

And WE get all the breaks??? haha really? I was thinking that was a pretty okay call from the refs. On the replay I could see the two collide (didn't have an effect on the shot, but in high speed the ref only sees the bump) Got to admit, I felt like the Wings were on the better side of the calls last night, but not enough to say the game would have gone the other way. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 There's not much that makes me flip my lid in life instantly, but bad officiating in pretty much any sport is one of them. I'm generally fairly muted during games, if it is a game or team I am really interested in and want to win I don't really cheer much, razz the crowd, whatever, I just watch intently and pretty much quietly. But if officials are incompetent I blow gaskets (i.e. I was at a playoff basketball game for the high school I went to tonight and even though my school won, the officiating was just downright terrible pretty much the whole game, I barely mumbled any words other than when the refs were stupid). I don't know what this GM is like, I'll just have to take some in here for their words that he's a goofball, but I don't give a damn that he complains about the officiating. From the example above I do from time to time, lord knows that plenty people in here do whether you want to admit it or not. Wrong context though in the complaint. It's not all because of the Red Wings or any other one team or player. NHL officiating and/or the rules is just so horribly inconsistent all across the board for all teams, not just the Red Wings or the Kings. I'll chalk this up to him being frustrated in the heat of the moment of the Kings pretty much playing an awful game after they had a great start. Nothing worth remembering a few days later or worth holding against him for the rest of his life. Eventually will be a non-story.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted March 2, 2011 Oh s***! Why didn't he think of that? Stupid Howard. Maybe you should give him some pointers. Think of what, playing his position correctly by blocking the post? That's standard goaltending form. That goal was absolutely because of that major positioning error by Howard.
