WorkingOvertime 536 Report post Posted April 10, 2011 I don't think it should be a suspension- the hit is the definition of a 2 min elbowing penalty to me (although they aren't called anymore). Abby's elbow was not raised about his shoulder and it looked like Seabrook stopped just as Abby went to hit him. Also, notice that Seabrook tried to sell the call. He labored to the bench and went out on the next shift. I thought there was a 15 min mandatory 'silent room' after a hit to the head?

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted April 10, 2011 Great point. WTF medical staff? esteef I have a feeling that we'll be seeing that ignored a lot this playoffs. And honestly i think it's a well-intended but possibly counterproductive rule. Knock a guy good in the head and you might take him off the ice for 15 minutes. For a 4th line player that may be a risk worth taking for his team.

Abby, a non-top liner headshots Seabrook, (if called) Abby gets booted and their best shot from the point goes to the library til time runs out. Pretty good plan! esteef
Theophany 110 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 Pronger physics IMO. No suspension. Either way I wouldn't be too torn up. Oh no, we have to use (at worst) Tatar or Mursak to take Abby's place? Oh noooooo!
Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 According to the NHL Wheel of Justice, it's either a "Hockey Play", a 1 game suspension, or a 2 game suspension.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 He had his elbow up and led with it, and he clocked Seabrook hard. That's worth a game or two, I place 50-50 odds on him missing Game 1. You in, Marty?
newfy 695 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 After watching a few times I'm starting to think his elbow was tucked against his side until contact is made. Because Seabrook pulled up he clipped him instead of making full contact and the momentum made his elbow follow through.
brett 1,029 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 (edited) Na, he was going for the shoulder, seabrook slowed down a bit and got it. how you going to suspend an accidental elbow. he got right back up as well. id be surprised if he did get suspended Edited April 11, 2011 by brett

Watch the replay again; Seabrook's right shoulder and arm go between Abdelkader's arm and body. Whether he had intended to hit him with the elbow initially or stuck it out because of Seabrook's attempt to avoid, it doesn't matter. It's still elbowing, and a hit to the head. mmamolo 287 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 I would really be surprised if Abdelkader gets suspended from this. At most it deserved a 2-min penalty on the ice. There is no question in my mind that Abby will get something. It's almost identical to the elbow-to-face shot that Dany Heatley recently gave to Steve Ott in our (Sharks) game against Dallas. It was a sweet shot to watch against a notorious rat/agitator, but for that Heatley received a two game suspension and $80,645.16 fine. Watch here and see if you can see much of a difference: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=556324 There is a serious difference between what Heatley did and what Abdelkader did. Heatley had intent to go after Ott's head and try to injure him. The only reason that didn't happen is because Heatley missed his shot. The suspension to Heatley was light (2 games) purely because the result of the hit to the head was minor. The NHL shouldn't be basing their suspensions on the resultant injury anyways. But the Dany Heatley fully went after Ott's head with the intent to blind side him when he didn't have the puck to try and hurt him. Abdelkader was making a check and his elbow got up. Even if you want to argue that he had the intent to elbow him (which is speculative) at least Seabrook was prepared for the hit and both players were engaged in 'hockey play' and Seabrook had some what of a chance to defend himself. This hit was not from the blindside and no one can clearly, 100% say there was intent there. I'm not saying he won't be suspended, because this is the NHL we're talking about, but based on precedence I'd be surprised if Abdelkader's hit is even discussed again at the NHL offices. HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 Cool, so no Hank and now no Abby possibly? Albeit from me to say that maybe this is a case of the intent thing and all that but I have to say I am actually glad to see someone playing with the edge in this type of game. Again, Abby has been bringing an awful lot of that as of late and it translates in the wins for sure. Probably a game suspension here.

WingZNut13 99 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/dregerreport/ He doesn't really talk about the suspension but he does mention the whole "quiet room" thing. I personally think he should just get 1 game. However, he has really come alive the last half of the season so I think him being out would be a big loss to this team. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get anything.

I do like how they say the Wings beating the Hawks "sent the Blackhawks to their TVs as cheerleaders."

He has a pretty big role on this team as the go to physical guy on forward. Hes had Bertuzzi playing like his west coast express self too. If theyre missing him for 1 game they can manage but I dont wanna see him gone much more than that

Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted April 11, 2011 there's nothing i can see anywhere even talking about it, and chicago should have had a double-minor for high sticking right before that, so it's an even trade if you ask me. Seabrook is top 5 for favorite dmen in the league for me, and i like the hawks when they don't get a free ride from the refs against the wings, so i'm not biased....but it looked like seabrook did a little acting on the fall down after the hit. just saying...
