no thanks. don't need another LW. rather have zherdev and nobody here wants him. We need to think about getting guys on D and O that shoot right...

About 60% of forwards and 70% of defensemen shoot left-handed. You can't just go out and get a right-handed shot because there are far fewer of them. This is despite the fact that around 90% of adult males are right-hand dominant. The reason? In a lot of North American developmental leagues, players are taught to use their dominant hand as the top hand on the stick so that they have more strength and control on the stick in one-handed situations such as a poke-check. European leagues and some North American leagues work primarily on the idea of putting your dominant hand lower on the stick, for power on the puck in shooting situations. Ovechkin is a prime example. Yzerman and Hull are also good examples. They all have/had blistering wrist shots powered by their right-handed shot. I personally am ambidextrous, but I shoot right, and my right arm is stronger. I have also broken my left arm in three places.

We need a right handed shot..end of story. We need a right handed winger who can play the weak side on the PP for one timers and now with Raf gone we are going to need a righty on the PP. Great shooting tutorial but it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that a couple of righties on this team would be key. I'm not saying we can find another Hull or Shanny and its obvious that right handed shots are hard to find but if found they are very very valuable.

First off, he's played a good deal of RW, just because he's a left handed shot, doesn't make him a LW and also, handedness is FAR less important up front... I will agree with you on D

I don't know about that. Neither is really essential, and a RH shot on the point on the PP is very valuable but that can be done by a forward. Aside from that, I'd say having at least a couple RH shots up front is even more important than on defense. I recall several instances this year where fantastic scoring opportunities were lost just because someone had to take a pass on their backhand.

You'd rather have Zherdev? Really? A guy with a horrible attitude who can't cut it in the NHL anymore and refuses to play defense?

I'd take Wojtek. It sounds like a realistic thing that can happen too!

I meet his Dad a couple months ago. Apparently he liked the night life in New York a little to much.

Then Detroit will be perfect for him. There's no nightlife.

That said, it doesn't speak well of him that he partied so hard his team got rid of him.

I'd rather give up potential goals for because a guy couldn't convert on his backhand, than give goals up because a dman was on his offside and couldn't effectively clear the puck up the boards... as already touched on, it isn't an end all, be all case either way, but it has far more effect on D, than it does up front...

Also, forward on the point for the PP is how SH goals are scored, unless you have a stud that could play both positions if they wanted to...

And to who suggested we need a guy on the off side of the PP who's a righty to take one timers in the slot, we already have him, he just needs to be re-signed and given the chance on the PP...

I feel that I wasn't clear enough earlier in this thread, although I feel I said it at least 3 times......... he needs consistency and leadership... tell me where those were going to come from in NY?

I saw Wolski during his time on the Coyotes...you could tell he is certainly skilled, but there just wasn't enough drive or motivation in his play. It didn't help that he didn't fit into the Yotes style of play really. He would likely be much more suited to the Wings' style. I guess the only questions are, will he respond to mentoring and leadership, and who would be the best man for the job? Dats?

I think it would be a team effort, just being around everyone in the Wings locker room and seeing what they do day in and day out, the hard work, professionalism, etc of the whole team... with that said, I think Dats, Z and even Holmer while he's still here could be great examples for him the most...

Ya. After all, being around them and Yzerman and others of the sort drove Lang to become one of the grittiest players in the league.

I don't get why everyone thinks that simply playing on the Wings is enough to get someone's act together. The Wings do not like to sign lazy underachievers, and this type of player never lasts long on the Wings.

If the Wings organization is so good at whipping these players into shape... why are we still complaining about Hudler? What happened with Leino? Lang? Williams?

I understand that players like Cleary and Eaves have found success here, but these were not players who were categorized by their laziness affecting an abundance of talent - they were always hard working players who simply never produced offensively the way their draft selection might have suggested.

Cleary in particular (being the most popular example used by people here) had an attitude problem more than a work ethic problem, didn't he? He was a big partier and carried himself like he was owed the world and didn't know how to adapt when the game didn't go his way. Those types of players can thrive with the Wings. Not so sure about a lazy player. Once lazy, probably always lazy.

Yea, a 32yr old Lang and a 25yr old Wolski, same thing...

let's also gloss over the fact that he joined the Wings DURING their changing of guard and barely played one full season with the likes of Yzerman... but keep swinging with useless, off-mark comparisons...

Laziness was never Wolskis problem, it was scoring consistency and maybe night life... so, if anything, he'd fit more in the category with Cleary and Eaves, not Leino and Grigorenko... even more reason why he'd be a great fit here...

Wait, how was a one legged Grigs lazy?

We both know he doesn't possess that newt like ability. His laser vision, would not have been helpful on ice, either, so don't even bring that up.

If he wasn't lazy, he could have used his green ring and stolen the power from a newt to do so... but he was just too damn lazy to take the initiative...

Wolski has a lot of talent, but man he is lazy.

Traded by Colorado, traded by Phoenix because he was constantly in the dog house this season, and then he went to NYR and he was often a healthy scratch even with them. Three teams have been disappointed with his attutide and inconsisteny. I know it's a bit hypocritical because I want Zherdev, but I'm not sure about Wolski.

but..but...b... Wolski would be the new Gretzky if he played for the Wings. Wings is the place players come to turn into men. We can point at Jason Williams and Hudler as proof how good lazy players can become on the Wings!!!

No F'ING thank you to Wolski. This team had enough Hudlers, Williams, and Modanos... no need to keep the trend alive..
