Bring Back The Bruise Bros

Teemu Selanne

I think his great play has been overshadowed by the Ducks lack of success this season. They're last in the Pacific, 14th in the Western Conference. However, at the age of 41, Selanne has scored 27 points in 27 games. Had 2 assists in Anaheim's 3-2 win over the Kings tonight. This guy is a true hockey legend, and he has made it clear he remains one of the elite players in the NHL. Currently 24th all-time in scoring, and he will move up on that list before his days are over in the league.

Just something else to discuss since our Wings caught the short end of the stick tonight.

The question is: if the things stay the same will Selanne want to get traded? It would be a win-win situation for the Ducks to rent him and for him to get a chance for a playoff run somewhere.

I know for sure that he's going nowhere if he himself doesn't want it. But even Ducks fans would like him to succeed somewhere if they don't make the playoffs. I know for sure there are teams interested, he's a ppg guy still. Pittsburgh would be a nice fit even though it sounds kinda disgusting.

Teemu is the one guy I respect on the Ducks roster. I even like him despite the amount of times he has brought pain and suffering upon the Swedish National Team.

Just like Lidstrom, he simply doesn't seem to get worse with age. For the most part he carries himself with class, and he's just an all-around cool guy.

There was an article at a Finnish newspapers' website stating that Selänne has been traded to San Jose. It took me a moment to realize that the article was 10 years old and I guess there was a bug at the website as the piece was among the latest sports news. Funny thing is that it went to state how Selänne was "too old" at age 30 and Ducks was happy to get a young gun Jeff Friesen (then age 24) in return.

He's always been one of my favorite non-Wings (though I was happy to see him suck with the Avs), and even more so the way he's played the last couple years. I don't think he wants to go anywhere, but I would be ecstatic if we could pick him up (without giving up too much). Only making $4M this year too. I can't imagine any teams that would NOT be interested in him.

I have never liked Teemu, but he is an impressive player for sure. I'm glad guys like him and Lidstrom are still around and dominating the younger kids year after year.

I wonder how long Teemu will keep playing? As long as injuries don't occur, Selanne still has a lot of hockey in him it appears.

I've never been a big fan of Selanne's but as most posters seem to agree there is no denying his accomplishments. That being said, I doubt that he ends up leaving Anaheim at the deadline (or any time really). He's won the cup and repeatedly said he only wants to play for Anaheim. He definitely could help a ton of teams but I just don't see it happening. It would add a lot of intrigue to the playoffs though if he were to be traded.

He has a NMC and I'd be surprised if he wanted to be traded. The last couple times the Ducks signed him, he pretty much said he wouldn't go anywhere else.

Never say never though I guess.

Selanne's play has been remarkable. I've been a fan over the years, though honestly he's turned into somewhat of a whiny ***** these last few seasons.

This is a tough one.

People say Iginla is too old, but presumably he'd stick around Detroit for a few years if we traded for him.

However, Selanne is bound to retire after this season or the next. We can't ship a guy like Filppula or one of our prospects for a guy who won't even be here next year. I believe in doing anything to win another Cup, but this may be stretching it.

have always been a fan of The Finnish Flash. i was at the game where he scored the goal that broke the goals by a rookie in 1993..its amazing how he still continues to play very well at 41.

It's hard to like anyone who plays for the D(f)ucks. I loved Teemu when he was playing for Winnipeg...and he's turned into a whiny crybaby the last 5 years or so. That being said, the guy is certainly talented and has amazing longevity.
