The home countries are usually given an automatic berth, but China is ranked 32nd in the world and in the same division as the US, Canada, and Germany at the Olympics. The concern is that they will be humiliated by the vastly superior competition (fine by me). If China is removed, they will be replaced by the highest ranking national team that did not qualify, Norway. Interesting footnote. If allowed by the IIHF, Former Red Wing Alum Ryan Sproul and Jake Chelios will be competing for the Chinese team. With one caveat. China does not recognize dual citizenship.
