puckbags 863 Report post Posted March 20, 2012 If Howard was out for the season I'd just say tank this s*** and get a good pick. If the Wings can't secure home ice advantage for at least one round of the playoffs s*** is going to be pretty rough. Wow, just wow is all I have to say. Kass 7 Report post Posted March 20, 2012 They should put Mrazek in and see what he can do. I know he's young, but he's the team's best goalie prospect. Giving him a small taste of NHL action would let him know what level he needs to reach. It worked pretty well for Howard during a similar injury crisis back in 2005. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 20, 2012 We're getting too close to playoffs for this garbage. Just a couple of weeks left and the Wings need to get healthy fast. This will teach them to coast, I guess, eh? Now there's no time to make up lost ground and it'll be harder than ever to put together some wins when they need them most. Wouldn't be in this position had they kept playing hard the last month. "Coasting" or what you might perceive as lack of effort does not necessarily, and likely doesn't, equal getting injured. I'm just as frustrated as you and everybody else here with the roster situation but this simply isn't true.

anthonyn66 89 Report post Posted March 21, 2012 Scary and unrealistic thought but kinda funny in a way: For s***s and giggles, someone claims Ty Conklin off waivers so that we have to play a Pearce-McCollum tandem or something...

CrimsonFlame 424 Report post Posted March 21, 2012 BTW, this is all Dan Cleary's fault. He and Holmstrom must have teamed up. And I bet Huddler and Franzen masterminded it.... despite them both being too lazy to do anything.

datterberg1340 626 Report post Posted March 21, 2012 IF Howard's not out for long and IF Nick and Big E return soon it should help the defense at least, then White can get back to riding coattails and Smith won't have to play as many minutes(avg. 15:30) since he's obviously not quite ready for that much responsibility yet
SoupSnake 25 Report post Posted March 21, 2012 Praying for a miracle in New York. Luckily they haven't looked good recently and they locked up a playoff spot. Maybe we'll catch them taking a nap and sneak out with some points.

How about Babcock does some coaching and actually mixes the lines to get some magic going. That 4th line shouldn't play another shift together for the rest of eternity. Zetts 236 Report post Posted March 21, 2012 That better not be our freaking lineup. How about Babcock does some coaching and actually mixes the lines to get some magic going. That 4th line shouldn't play another shift together for the rest of eternity. I agree. What the hell is that fourth line?! And as much as it pains me to say this, Holmstrom's not too useful anymore. He plays on the fourth line and as a powerplay specialist. But he doesn't provie much energy, and our powerplay is TERRIBLE. It (sadly) should probably be his last season. He was a great player for us, but it's time to move on. Having said that, the fourth line really isn't our biggest problem. It's pretty far down the list actually. That 4th line shouldn't play another shift together for the rest of eternity. Well what could he possibly mix it to? Aside from swapping a player on the first and second line I don't think there's much he can do. Also I think he should just roll with three lines. I think exhausted first 3 would still be better than the fourth.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 21, 2012 I just realized we can't talk about playoffs like we're a lock anymore. How sad is that? 9th place is 8 points behind us. And we've dropped 8 or 10 potential points in the last two weeks or so. The teams behind us are on tears, and suddenly it's not so shocking to think a few teams could win 5 or 6 of the final games while we continue to struggle. I know that in reality the Wings will make it, but it's certainly a chilling thought.

WizardOfOz30 1,886 Report post Posted March 21, 2012 I don't care how well Conks is playing in the minors, he in front of our healthy roster this year, sucked. Tomorrow isn't going to be pretty, this is hell. 3 years in a row of half the team going down with injuries at certain points of the season. This season had the most promise of the last 3, but we may now finish in 6th in the west. f*** the "hockey gods", they kick us in the nads every year with these injuries Conklin was not playing here so when they threw him in it wasn't pretty. He's had some consistent play lately and I think that will help tremendously. And the hits just keep on coming. I predict Babs will be out next week with a massive headache and Hudler will go down with a toe injury. I wouldn't be too sad about Hudler
