And considering Filppula's is a UFA next year. And unless he is bottling up his anxiety to get out of detroit, I assume he would resign with us, but you can't say that for the coyotes. It makes him a lot more valuable to us than he is to them.

Off topic so apologies, but this is exactly what me and my friend think up when we notice that Yzerman and Stamkos's contracts run out in the same year. Be nice if we could bring the former, then the latter, here

EDIT: In fact looking back, its not 'exactly' what we think, but sort of along similar lines hehe

If we're trying to target a TOP defensemen who is everyone looking at in next years FA. Who else besides Edler is everyone looking at as a premiere defensemen. Murray? Kimmo? Yandle is young, he's signed for a couple seasons, there's really no reason to hold out on him. if Weber was still out there then i would wait. But that class as it stands is not worth waiting for.

To step off topic with you for a moment, we've already lost Hudler's 25 goals so I hope Tootoo and Sammy can at least combine to make that up. I'd hate to see both Fil AND Nyquist go, we still don't know what Brunner is capable of.

Yandle is great. We'd be lucky to get him for only Filppula + scrubs.

I would hate to see Filppula go (although being a realist, I know he is one of only a few assets other teams would want) and I really would like to see what Nyquist can do with top 6 minutes, BUT, you don't get the opportunity for a Yandle (or a Bobby Ryan) all the time. Yandle has 4 more years left on his contract (I think) and he is fairly cheap. He is only 25 and has YET to hit his prime. I would rather trade Fanzine and Tatar instead, but if we did get Yandle, I think it would be better than signing Suter (other than the losing assets part.)

I will say what a lot of you guys have told me season after season, Ken Holland forgotten more about hockey talent than most of us know, so if he feels that Fil and Nyquist are expendable, I trust him. Especially if it brings in Yandle...

No to trading Smith...I don't think Holland would do that, ever. Holland has been waiting for Smith to come up for a long time (as has Babcock) the only time I EVER want to hear the name Smith mentioned in trade talks, is if the name Weber is coming back. Period. I do trust Holland's mind, I don't think he would trade Smith...
