Guest Johnz96 Report post Posted February 25, 2013 Because an 20 yr old Duncan Keith is better than a 19 yr old Duncan Keith As I have already pointed out to you Keith left college mid season. He scored 9 points in 15 games for MSU in 02-03 and switched to jr mid-season and scored 46 points in 37 games for the Kelowna Rockets in 02-03 Other players have left mid season as well and they all have scored a LOT more in jr. Often times jrs and college players score less in subsequent years (Nyquist is an example scored more as a sophmore than he did as a jr.) but never if they are moving from college to jr. Keith exponentially skyrocketed as a player extremely quickly. He never spent more than 2 years in one league besides the NHL. Plus he went from MSU to Kelowna. Kelowna won the championship that year.
FlashyG 1,799 Report post Posted February 26, 2013 (edited) HAHA this is some funny chit!!!! Keep it up!!! Crosby's Oceanic had 2 NHL regulars on the team, himself and Marc Antoine Pouliot, of the rest of the team only 7 even made it as far as the AHL with the majority finishing their hockey careers playing either Canadian University hockey or a local semi-pro league in Quebec. A Couple went back to Europe without making a dent in North American Pro Hockey. The 2005/2006 University of North Dakota had NHLer's Matt Smaby, Taylor Chorney, Brian Lee, Travis Zajac, Drew Stafford, TJ Oshie and Jonathan Toews. There were also a couple of guys who made it to the NHL for at least a few games including a 6'7, 233lb Joe Finley, Chris Porter, and Matt Watkins. The majority of the rest of the team finished their careers or are still playing in the ECHL, with a few excelling in Europe. That line-up would absolutely destroy Rimouski, especially so considering they were all a couple years older than the majority of Rimouski's line-up. As a parent I would always send my kid the NCAA route. Even if my kid was Crosby. You just never know how someone will pan out, e.g. Daigle. Much better to have an education to fall back on... plus it's good to have a college education, even if you never need to formally use it. For every year you play at least 1 game in the CHL you are given a credit to use for a year of Post Secondary Education, including tuition, books, and all student fees. You may not get that education until your career is over, but the CHL has a very good education program that hardly anyone knows about. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 26, 2013 I was listening to ESPN radio the other day, and they were talking about the NBA wanting to make it easier for students to get drafted and a caller brought up that very same point. The hosts seemed to like the idea, it gives the kids a safety net if their careers as pro hockey players don't pan out, and gives them an incentive to stay a ltitle longer in college to develop. LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted March 4, 2013 I hate to bump this subject back to the first page, but yesterday I watched two games: Rimouski v. Moncton and Ferris State v. Michigan... I have to say in these two examples only, the quality of play swayed more towards the CCHA game. Just my opinion from watching both games... These two games are just a small sampling of the two leagues, but for me, the CCHA game was much better and more entertaining....and I am a MSU fan, so its not just a Wolverine thing... Jimmybigrigs69 467 Report post Posted June 30 Was having a convo with a friend about how well Nightingale has turned around the Michigan State hockey program, and I guess this didnt register with me until my buddy mentioned it... Nightingale isnt some genius college hockey coach, he was in the right place at the right time... the rule changes to the NCAA now allow players to get paid, and Nightingale suddenly has MSU football money behind him. Because of this rule change we are witnessing a huge shift in the prospect landscape. Players are choosing college over the OHL more often now. For example Gavin McKenna, next years #1, is down to MSU or Penn State as his destination. This shift is also a dream scenario for the Red Wings. Because the only teams with serious hockey programs and serious athletics money generated from football/basketball are Michigan, Michigan State, and Penn State. So we have 2/3 of the future powerhouse colleges in our backyard. The ivy leagues and teams like Quinnipiac are doomed. And even programs like Minnesota and Boston will struggle to compete. Michigan the state is geared for total hockey dominance.

Yeah...Kinda sad...$700K wow...Back in my college days - beer on weekends and different/multiple flavors of puzzy would've gotten me to sign on the dotted line. Of course this is the extreme high end so far payment wise. Mckenna will go #1 overall next year and likely leaves PSU right away. So the Nittany Lions got him on a 700Kx1 deal essentially. An extra year of ELC money for Gavin.
Jimmybigrigs69 467 Report post Posted July 9 (edited) With Michigan State losing out on Gavin McKenna to PSU, and losing Hobey Baker winner Isaac Howard to the Oilers in the same week, it's rumored their trying to pull in likely #2 overall pick next year in Porter Martone, among other possible CHL defectors. Are their any UofM fans here? I dont understand why Naruto and that program have been so quiet. They have baller azz athletics money to use, but don't seem to be making any attempt to flex it. Further, it looks apparent to me that the the CHL is going to shift from a 16-21 year old league, to a 16-18 year old league. They are capped at only paying players $7,200 a year. If programs like MSU/PSU are willing to dish out hundreds of thousands on a single guy, then they can easily outbid and lure in any rando CHLer they want. Add a possible free degree to that for life after hockey and its a no brainer. If you're still in the CHL at 19 you're basically gonna be a loser that no NCAA program wanted. So CHL isnt kill completely. But BCHL, USHL, etc should be fuqqin worried. Edited July 9 by Jimmybigrigs69 1 Rick D reacted to this
