Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted May 15, 2013 I miss Helm. : ( I wish so bad he would come back now. Maybe that's why our 4th line is just rotating wingers. Whoever plays the best flanks Helm when he's ready to tear up the ice again. 1 St. Michael (the Red Wing) reacted to this
Guest The Axe Report post Posted May 15, 2013 Helm is a tease. I hate even hearing about him, cuz I know we'd be sick with him right now.
evilzyme 769 Report post Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) Even if, and that's a huge if, Helmer was able to play again this season, I don't see him getting back in the line-up during these playoffs. He hasn't played at all this season, and has already said that he has lost some of his speed. Nothing has gotten better from that point. It's better to just write Helmer off until next season with a full summer of rehab, training camp, and pre-season to get him back to where he needs to be. I really hope the placebo effect hasn't hindered him enough mentally. It would suck to see Helmer never go 100% again. StormJH1 231 Report post Posted May 15, 2013 Hadn't even occured to me that Helm (or DeKeyeser) could get back these Playoffs. Even if Helm could get ready, who would have much confidence he could stay healthy? Needs to sit it out and hope for better in October. Sad too - I think his injury was the single biggest absence from the lineup causing those early problems. Fortunately, Emmerton emerged as a steady pro, and replaced a little bit of the speed and energy Helm offered.

Ally 448 Report post Posted May 22, 2013 This makes me sad. Especially when he's saying that when they guys are getting cheap-shotted that's when he wants to be out there the most. Just reminds me how much heart that kid has. I really miss Helm 1 hooon reacted to this

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted May 22, 2013 Note that the absence of a diagnosis necessarily entails the absence of a prognosis. In other words, don't assume that this means he'll be gone forever. No diagnosis, no prognosis, Helm keeps aggravating it...I dunno, maybe I'm weird, but none of this really engenders a whole lot of hope or optimism in me. Not that I think he won't find his way back into the lineup in due time (as in, some time next season). But, I can tell you from experience: back problems can really, really, really, really, really, really suck - especially for a guy as young, active, physical, etc. as Helm is. Definitely feel for the guy. Can't rush it, though. On a more positive note... Has this been a blessing in disguise? I mean, you hate to call something like this a "blessing." But, with Andersson's surprising emergence, and with Nyquist and Brunner - both legitimate top-six scorers - tearing it up...suddenly, we get Helm back, and we've got a wicked bottom six. gowings00 545 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 Helm is always missed and his speed prevents other teams from pinching. He is missed especially on the special teams. On the flip side, dude could have had his disc replaced by now. Several things I don't understand here. 1. How in the world does it take four days to get an initial MRI and then several more weeks before a second opinion? I'm shocked that athletes can't get in ahead of us regular sloths or see a specialist? Maybe Helm should switch to a PPO vice ***. 2. How does it take several months before a second doctor figures out he has a tear in his disc? Do these guys not get more than 3 minutes with the doctors? As a college athlete, we had physicians standing by for this sort of thing. They received large stipends for it too. 3. From that point, why did it take several more weeks before they knew how to treat it properly? I understand mystery illnesses but this is crazy. Sounds to me that we need a new medical staff and schedulers. Fire everybody! Kidding, but only a little.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted May 23, 2013 I hate Radulov. The Radulov incident did not affect Helm's back.
GoalieManPat 1,007 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 So "if" he comes back for the start of next season that's not many games played in 20 months or so. To play his game of throwing his body around at high speed there's no guarantee he can get back to where he was. I hope he can but this is a long layoff and back injuries tend to always re-appear. rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 The Radulov incident did not affect Helm's back. I didn't say it did, I said I hate Radulov. Even though Helm was out for his MCL(?) and then came back, Rads took him out that game, and that's pretty much all he has played since minus the one game this year. Thus, I'm still blaming Radulov. 1 hillbillywingsfan reacted to this

Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted May 23, 2013 It will be interesting to see what Kenny does this summer. Does he hope Helm's back improves so he can count on him being in the line-up? Or does he sign a UFA to replace him as insurance? The most likely scenario is Emdog staying as the 4th line centre. I'd say if Helm is not back this fall then his NHL career is likely in jeopardy. I hate saying that but he missed last year's playoffs, virtually this entire season and playoffs. Now he will rest for 3 months and see what happens. If he is no better come Training Camp in September then the writing is pretty much on the wall. We all love Helm but the sad reality is that he may have played his last game already. Even if Helm is healthy at the start of camp, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Andersson stick to centering the 3rd line with Helm on the 4th & Emmerton either kept around as insurance, traded in a package, or sent through waivers. Granted if Kenny gets the top 6 forward he's looking for & re-signs Flip (for a reasonable contract, not $5+m a season) that would make Emmerton even more expendable if Helm's healthy. rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 I like Flip, but I don't think he's what we need. He makes progress, regresses, makes progress, regresses. Outside of his defensive capabilities, I don't see him doing anything we can't replace. He just doesn't have the ability to hang onto the puck like he needs to play his game. You can see the moves he tries to pull, and 90% of the time it leads to a turnover. 1 Vladifan reacted to this
blgillett 48 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 We could have really used his speed against the hawks. Now ill be happy just to get him back next year if we ever do. It. Makes me nervous with him gone all year you never know if you will ever get someone like that back
gowingsgo 3 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 Sucks that Helm is out but we need him healthy. He can't risk a bad back injury. No sense letting him take a hit and worsening the situation. Ride with the guys we have

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted May 23, 2013 Is it sad that I've started to forget that Helm is on this team? Not trying to minimize the guy at all, as anyone who's seen the guy, especially in the playoffs, knows he's huge. But these long term injuries are just brutal. I can't even imagine how hard it must be for him.
