amato 3,210 Report post Posted January 8, 2016 “In just over two years, Jim has helped instill a culture of excellence within our organization and extending that partnership to 2022-23 is vital for the direction of the hockey club,” said Stars owner Tom Gaglardi in a release. “From the day he stepped into this role, he has displayed tremendous decision-making in the re-tooling of our group and we’re excited to build upon the foundation that has been laid. We feel he is one of the best general managers in our league and we are thrilled he is so committed to us.” “I’ve said over and over again, just how special of a group we have here in Dallas, and developing and maintaining a winning organization is something I look forward to over the next seven years,” added Nill. Personally, I'm a big fan of the new look Stars team that Nill is building in Dallas and am happy to see any former wings executive find continued success elsewhere. I look forward to continuing to cheer for Dallas for years to come.. congrats Jim! http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2016/01/08/stars-extend-gm-jim-nill-who-has-helped-instill-a-culture-of-excellence/

vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted January 8, 2016 This is one of the biggest no-brainer moves in hockey history. They went from poor/mediocre to leading the league in 2 years.

DatsyukianDekes 2,428 Report post Posted January 10, 2016 Lots of pieces were already in place there but good for him. The Seguin deal put them over the top. Speza helped add center depth. Klinberg and Nichushkin were huge pieces in place for them. Still need a goalie though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

His 1st round picks have hit, and there's more to come....soon! His acquiring of Debrincat, and even wooing Kane to play here weas remarkable. The trades of players who have soured on the team for whatever reason, I guess needed to be done. We don't know what went on behind closed doors, or even if the other GM's KNEW he had to get rid of said players and had him handcuffed. We just don't know. The Mantha, Bertuzzi, (as mentioned) Debrincat acquisition, and the Hronek deals were outstanding, many draft pick swaps were good deals as well. 1 Rick D reacted to this
