My leg swelled/bruised 3 times it's 'normal size' from mid calf to mid thigh. My knee cap was momentarily on the far right of my knee joint, and I popped it back in the center so I could hobble off the ice, and drive myself to the ER. Popped out a few more times before I had what they call a 'lateral release' (cauterizing the tissue that's on the lateral side of the knee joint - in my case it was my right knee like Big E's)...That way the knee cap will 'float' where it should - center position.
