I'm hearing he's a good passer and good playmaker with a good shot. I'm guessing the serious knee problems probably put his mobility right around Nyquist 2016-to-present levels (no explosive speed but quick in short bursts).

So it's possible.

Yeah, ACL injuries are pretty common in the NHL these days. Having two is rough though. He was known for his speed earlier in his career, let's hope he hasn't lost too much of that with the injuries... Looking forward to see what he can bring tonight.

Man on the internet says Torey Krug just recently bought a new home outside of Detroit

Who is the next great Red Wings Dman, and why is it Torey Krug?

I like Krug. He's been a fantastic player for the Bruins, but would he be able to replicate that production with the Red Wings? Would he even want to come "home"? I'm not so sure to be honest...

At 29 years old, how much does he have left in the tank? What kind of contract will he be looking for? If we could sign him to a "hometown discount", at around $5.5-6M for 4-5 years, then sure, but unfortunately, I think he'll be looking for a higher AAV and max term...

Previous lineup from Bostons Tuesday game:

Marchand - Bergeron - Pastranak
Cehlarik - Krejci - Heinen
Bjork - Coyle - Senyshyn
Wagner - Kuraly - Ritchie

Chara - Clifton
Krug - Carlo
Grzelyck - McAvoy

Halak
Rask

They are a one line team like us. Just gotta shut that line donwn and we get the W fellas.

False. If we lose this game 4-1, 5-1, or 6-1, it's time to find a new ******* goalie

Blashill is more to blame than the goalie.  Yes, we need a new goalie.  Also, I need a 6'0 tall blonde who is way out of my league.  We're not finding a better goalie this season.

Also, it'd be nice if this team could draft a goalie in the last 10 seasons who amounted to something.

For the duration of his contract? Doubtful.

Realistically we're a couple years away from making the playoffs, and another couple away from becoming a legit contender. By that time Krug is in the final year(s) of his contract, a shell of what he is now, and making far too much money...

Maybe. But knowing this team is a long ways away from being Cup contenders, maybe not...

2, maybe 3 more really good years (if he's lucky). After that, he may be a slightly better Daley...

He's a one-dimensional power play specialist who I wouldn't necessarily trust to do much good in a top-pairing role at even-strength.

Thing is, our power play is indescribably awful (consistently costing us games for the past three years) and our D group isn't much better. So maybe he'd actually be worth what many would consider an overpayment (in free agency, not in a trade).

DeKeyser -- Hronek
Krug -- Seider
Who -- Cares

I'd rather just roll with...

DeKeyser - Hronek
Nemeth - Seider
Cholowski - Bowey

... for another season, in which we're expected to be bad... once again...

I think Krug would be worth that contract for the first 2-3 seasons. After that, when we should finally start to see this team emerge as a threat, he'll likely be on his way out...

Roll with what we have for now. Maybe make a trade to upgrade the D, or a smaller free agent signing to add depth. I'm not interested in going after any of the big fish at this point in the rebuild.

This team is 5 years away from doing anything worthwhile. Doesn't mean they have to be eye-bleedingly bad for that entire time.

Ideally we have two more big drafts and then start winning a bit. Krug would help. He'd also help boost the development of young guys like Zadina.

Also doesn't hurt to have a known playoff producer for the kids to learn from when that time comes.

In the end, wanting Krug comes down to whether or not you think he'll be effective in his mid 30's. I think he will be. He has been extremely consistent his entire career.

Thing is, I don't see this team being as "eye-bleedingly bad" as you do in the not too distant future, even without any major acquisitions.

Krug would definitely help, but I don't see him being a piece when this team becomes truly competitive again. There are other ways to bolster this team's blue line than signing a soon to be past his prime, diminutive defenseman.

A diminutive defenseman who has consistently put up 40+ points per season his entire NHL career, including being a playoff beast.

"Krug would definitely help but I don't want him". Makes sense.

We want no part of this in Detroit. We only want good players when we're good.

I can understand the apprehension on wanting Krug if one thinks he will soon regress. I get it. I just think he's one of those guys who will still be putting up 40-45 points at 35 years of age.
