What's up with this "holier-than-thou" attitude that so many Wings fans have developed? It's getting to the point where only The Amish can play for Detroit ... except "The Amish Mafia"; they're too "thug" for this organization. I mean, nobody wanted Jeff Carter because he would have been a "bad seed". Nobody wanted Bertuzzi because of "the incident". It seemed like most fans liked Avery when he was here, but then hated him after he left. Most fans had no problem with the Chelios trade, and he was a pretty dirty player in his Montreal and Chicago days. Was Dallas Drake "Detroit material"? Drake was a better goal scorer earlier in his career, but both he and Tootoo play similar games/roles, and Drake was a HUGE presence for Detroit in the '08 Cup run. I think Tootoo could have brought that same presence and intensity if he had been given the chance. 

 

I'm just really not understanding the Tootoo hate on here. I can understand not liking him from his Nashville days, but he's here now, and he brought something to Detroit that this team sorely lacked: TOUGHNESS! He played *mostly* disciplined hockey, came to the defense of his teammates, and probably would have scored more goals than Abdelkadfer had he been given the luxury of playing with Datsyuk. I think people will be glad he's on this team next season, though without a true enforcer or some size up front, Detroit might still be in trouble.    

Kronwall is due there is no doubt about it. I'm going with a Kronwall hat trick. 1 goal, 1 assist, and 1 "you got Kronwalled"... 4-1 wings (Kronner, Dats, and Mule x 2)
 

I don't know, Kronwall seems to get "Kronwalled" more these days than he delivers them. He got "Bickelled" last game, along with Andersson. Still, it would be nice if he could line up the aforementioned Bickell. Lord knows that no Red Wing is going to get in Bickell's face, except Cleary with his "why I outta!" and "you're lucky this linesman is holding me back...". The only other player that does the "why I outta" bluff better than Cleary is Samuelsson. He is truly the best.

 

But it is what it is with this line-up; if they win tonight, I'll be happy. I hate the prospect of them having to go back to Chicago. I can't take that post-goal music; it literally makes me nauseous. Please win. 

Wait, Sammy is out and we're putting Emmerton in over Tootoo? Does Babcock just not like hitting the opposing teams D? Lord knows that Chicago is going to pound ours.

 

Can somebody tell me why we even signed Tootoo. Does he carry the equipment, or is that Ian White's job?

What were the Wings doing on the Power Play? They were moving the puck to a more advantageous spot on the ice and not constantly settling for shots from the Blue Line. Is that even allowed?!?! I'm confused... 

I hope Bert is put on the top line and Tootoo is in for Samuelson, but I'm not going to hold my breath. 

Shanahan will just be another St. Louis Blues player to me now (actually he already was for inaction on Weber last year).

 

That is the worst insult he can get from Wings fandom.

Lets not get carried away. However you feel about this situation, Shanny will always be a Red Wing.

Yeah, one, and we won the Cup that season. Coincidence? But seriously, name one team that Detroit has had a heated rivalry with since Bowman's departure. Most physical games have been one-sided. I think there was even a players poll a few years back that voted Detroit as the "least hated" team. That's not surprising. Since year 2 of the Babcock/Holland regime, Detroit has routinely had the least physical crop of forwards in the NHL. Outside of Helm (injured), Drake (retired) and Tootoo (inexplicable a healthy scratch against some of the more physical teams?), Detroit has not had many consistently physical forwards. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. 

Yeah, it's a good, physical game. THIS is hockey! Not the candy-ass tiptoe through the tulips game The Red Wings play on most nights. Rivalries are what make hockey; unfortunately, The Red Wings have no rivalries anymore, mostly because they do not engage in physical play due to the Charmin soft teams Ken Holland has assembled since Bowman's retirement.  

I don't even try to figure out why Babs does what Babs does anymore; it makes my head hurt. But the kool-aid drinkers say he's "the best coach in hockey", so who are we no-nothings to question his infinite wisdom. 

What? How do we not at the very least get Claude Giroux for a prize like Huskins! Get Ray Shero over here!!

Iginla? Ah, who cares, Samuelsson is practicing ... and eventually he WILL return - take that, Pittsburgh! And Bert, lets not forget him.

Would have rather had Konopka or Prust. Better players and tougher.

Sorry, I like Nash, but he is not worth his contract. We need to use our assets for defense, I just fail to see how the Wings improve. We lose scoring depth, we lose assets, and we get a player that's never proved to score more than 80 points.

We would of lost a guy who has never scored more than 66 points himself and who disappeared in the playoffs last year, and a player that at times has shown promise, but more often than not has just looked so-so. We improve by having an unstoppable 1st line, even if teams focus on them. The 2nd line?? Not so sure about them. I agree about the defense, but...

And scoring a point for Columbus is like scoring two points for a good team. I'm not saying he would score 160 points in Detroit, but he would sure as hell put up more than 80. And Nash doesn't float, which would only make Datsyuk's job easier.  

But it's not going to happen, so it's a moot point.
