#2326664 winter classic question...

Posted by evilmrt on 23 August 2012 - 09:52 PM

Probably not, since its an official NHL event, with the NHL logos and names and all of that.

That being said, it could easily go ahead re-branded as something else since its being held in a non-nhl venue. Probably without the current names and logos...maybe some old throwback names and logos would do the trick (Detroit Cougars vs. Toronto St. Patricks, for example).

#2326355 New Commissioner?

Posted by evilmrt on 21 August 2012 - 11:12 PM

You guys give him way too much credit. He is just an annoying talking head.

Who started this s***? It won't die, no matter what hockey forum I seem to look at.

In extremely and overly simplistic terms, think of a sports commissioner as similar to a Chairman of the Board, and the Board of Governors (owners) as a Board of Directors, minus the influence of shareholders.

Now, I don't think that many view Chairmen of large corporations as "talking heads". They have a lot of influence in guiding an organization. Why does Bettman get re-branded as nothing more than a spokesman for the Board of Governors?

#2325571 Prospects Tournament Cancelled

Posted by evilmrt on 16 August 2012 - 06:48 PM

Lockout? What lockout? The prospects tournament was cancelled because Holland sucks! We don't have any prospects left! He traded them all for old men! Blah blah blah!

#2320992 Flyers sign Weber to offer sheet: 14y/$110m ($56m 1st 4yrs)

Well, that's that, then. Holland was never given the opportunity by Weber to sign the latter to an offer sheet.

Odd, I didn't know that under the current CBA, you had to ask for permission before you presented an offer sheet lol.

#2316761 Ken Holland, Post-Scotty Bowman

Posted by evilmrt on 07 July 2012 - 01:37 PM

Great analysis...and hard to argue with. I honestly had not thought of the Bowman connection. Holland does not look like the "best GM in the NHL" as many regard him as, post-Bowman.

That trade run-down is absolutely awful. Well, I guess he has this summer to finally make a good one :whatsthat:

#2315110 Has the Detroit diamond lost it's shine?

Posted by evilmrt on 04 July 2012 - 06:04 PM

Kenny wasn't prepared to live without Lidstrom.

This says it all. We all knew when Lids was turning 40, and he had another possible year, max. Holland had YEARS to prepare for this, and what did he do? He seems a little lost in the salary cap era, now that the Wings' stars from the pre-cap days are gone.

Awesome new layout! I love it! Thanks, Matt!

Also, if Holland bombs out on July 1st, I vote to replace Franzen with Jimmy Howard on the forum image.

#2309781 Blashill to coach Griffins 12-13 season

Posted by evilmrt on 25 June 2012 - 03:16 PM

I'd say its probably a lateral move. They say he's great with the youngsters, so this makes a lot of sense for the Wings organization. Someone with that skill needs to be in GR more than Detroit, and I anticipate that the Wings will benefit greatly from this move.

What D-coach candidates do we have? Cheli? :dntknw:

#2308470 Pavel and his girlfriend at the NHL Awards

Posted by evilmrt on 21 June 2012 - 11:51 AM

Yeah the divorce nonsense is not true...Although, I do wonder if it is an added stress on Pavel that his wife and child live in Russia. You can dismiss things like that, but if any decent man was in that situation...it would impact him. Probably even more so as he (and his child) gets older.

Anyway, Svetlana Datsyuk seems pretty cool. I know that she and Pavel have been together way before he got famous playing hockey. So, none of that "I'm a hockey star so I married a hot babe!" crap from Pavel :colgate:

#2306856 2012 SCF : Los Angeles Kings vs. New Jersey Devils

Posted by evilmrt on 12 June 2012 - 12:29 AM

This certainly wasn't as exciting as last year's finals. I remember there was WAY more activity on LGW during the Vancouver/Boston finals as well. I wonder if it would have been better as a NYR/LA finals. NJ just didn't capture my attention at all.

The LA fans didn't boo Bettman. Seriously? I mean...we know half the arena are celebs and porn stars...but come on, folks. Its tradition!

Andrew Murray? A 30 yr old AHLer? What are we supposed to do with him?
