The Secret 304 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 That was awesome, so funny. Lilja should have a watch and learn something. One of those sled thingys would definately help Kopecky's skating I am sure too.

sureWhyNot 19 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 OMG that is the best video I have seen in a while --- It all began when my man slid (not run) into the goalie. The refs couldn't contain the madness. There are going to be some harsh suspensions handed down from that melee for sure.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 The refs couldn't contain the madness. There are going to be some harsh suspensions handed down from that melee for sure. About 1:20 in an effort to break it up I suppose, a ref literally throws a player onto their side and shoves him away along the ice. Guess they weren't playing around. A minute or so in an American comes flying into view and tackles a Canadian, that was pretty great.

sureWhyNot 19 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 Am I the only one interested in what the players box or penalty box looks like? BAHAHAHA now that you mention it I am incredibly interested. I am going to go try to dig up some pics and I will post them. As to the guy coming in like a bat outta hell from the U.S. -- I want to know, and I am pretty sure he did, leave the bench. Now, I want to know whether he did so under coach instruction or if he was just having an Adam Mair moment where the emotions got the best of him. Here is the actual video from the link initially posted as well:
sureWhyNot 19 Report post Posted March 1, 2009 OK -- here are some pics detailing sledge hockey, the set up (benches/penalty box), and some action shots. Enjoy -- I know I did: Is it me or is the ref laughing at the guy in the pic below ***The players bench in most arenas is inaccessible. The players sit on the ice along the boards in front of the benches between the blueline and redline. For penalties the players sit in the semi-circle in front of the penalty box. Rivalred 630 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Cool stuff... Thanks for the pictures. I can bet that it is not easy to do what they do.... Imagine how much strength they need in their upper bodies...
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 I've seen the display they have for Sledge Hockey at the HHOF in Toronto. The ends of their sticks have "gougers" (for want of a better word), which allows them to dig in and move. I watched it twice to see if there was any evidence of a spearing offense and I couldn't see any. You know, "two minutes for goring".

What would the refs hand signal look like when announcing a goring penalty?
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 #18 on Canada is Don Cherrys definition of "good canadian boy". That was probably the best video I've seen in a while also, when there was a pileup of players toppled over one another, and there still throwing punches! Sergei Fedorov91 24 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 That seems pretty dangerous with the two sticks with blades on the end that they have.
sureWhyNot 19 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 (edited) Ha ha, this video is so funny I just can't seem to let it go. Here is some more on sledge hockey (pics and more information on their sticks/swords and the penalties that accompany them when used improperly): The Stick/Sword It turns out that in the advanced Sledge hockey leagues there is a different bench/penalty box set up then that of the amateur leagues: "The entrance ways to the players’ benches and penalty benches from the ice are designed evenly with the ice so the players can access them without the help of a coach or able-bodied person. Additionally, the surface area inside the players’ benches and penalty benches are made of smooth plastic or ice, which is to avoid any damage to the players’ sledges." Holy s*** -- Here is a video that entails the "official rules", but it's much much more -- take a look at the big hits or as they are better know as in the sledge hockey world "Teeing". If you have a couple minutes this video is definitely worth watching: To close this bad boy I figured I had to toss a "Highlight reel" that show some of Sledge hockey's best players, most memorable plays and unforgettable moves: Edited March 2, 2009 by sureWhyNot
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 BAHAHAHA now that you mention it I am incredibly interested. I am going to go try to dig up some pics and I will post them. I remember watching a Sledge Hockey game once, and the player bench and the penalty box board are clear glass, so you can see through them. I don't quite know if thats what you were asking...but yeah. Here is a crappy pic - but you can see the clear boards in the background.

Doggy 130 Report post Posted March 2, 2009 Are they handicapped for real? or is it just another version of hockey in canada? Ironically enough, it was invented in Sweden. And yes, it's for the physically handicapped.
