Wow, talk about putting words in someone's mouth. Did I ever claim he was a top-6 guy? Did I ever claim his level of play in his prime was an indicator of how he'll play now? Did I ever claim he could crack the Wings' top-6? *All I said* was that Guerin is not a league-minimum player, even at his current age and no matter what team he's on. To assume he is is ridiculous and shows you're not paying attention around the league. Now before you go off again, check out his numbers the year before last or even the year before that if you want a sample of his offensive ability *at this point in his career.* Instead of being so quick to hit the reply button perhaps you should actually read what was written before going off on your tangent. -

He really was a terrible player last year, and his goal totals were almost directly a product of his linemates, more noticeably Crosby. He is not worth much. A little over a million is as far as someone should go, and that is stretching. -
1 pointI have the shakes. Friday, August 13th, 2010 How appropriate that today of all days is when I finally crack. Its been months since I've last witnessed professional hockey, and it was a bittersweet moment when I observed an anticlimactic ending between two of my most hated opponents. It was an exciting series, but my heart had died in round two with the Wings. And that marked the beginning. I thought my rations of beer-leagues and you-tube videos were large enough to get me through the desolate summer months, but disaster stuck. I was so foolish not to think ahead. How did I not realize that three weekend camping trips were planned all overlapping my beer-league games? I've gone close to a month without playing a game, and now its taken all my effort to keep from collecting the ice from the fridge just to feel its cool touch. I can only wonder about my beer-league companions. We lost contact after my first expedition. I don't even know if they're alive anymore, or what condition their ration stockpile was in. I don't know if I will be alive either, come our next game this Saturday night. The youtube videos and hockey stories have all been used up. I've survived this long on drawing up elaborate hockey plays on a pile of post-it notes at my employment shelter, but how many plays are left to discover?? There's nothing left of any substance to feed me. I pray to the hockey gods for the strength to endue this unholy heatwave for just another 48 hours. That's all I need. I rest my remaining hopes in this note that someone, anybody can find me and share their rations with me, but my body believes it to be too late. I'm withering away, starved to the bone. To whomever may find this: tell my family I love them, should I not make it to Saturday. Godspeed. Echolalia

Solid signing by nucks, their team looks very good, early favourite i'd say: Sedin-Sedin-Burrows Raymond-Kesler-Samuelsson Hodgson-Malholtra-Torres Hansen-Rypien-Oreskovich/Bolduc/Glass Any idea about Defensemen, they signed hometown boy Hamhuis this summer too I remember... hmm -

Rumor I read this morning on twitter was that he's maybe starting season in KHL while continuing to negotiate with NJ/NHL. Edit: Why was this negged? @dchesnokov I'm sorry I didn't bother to source the rumor, that's now false from the same source. -

League minimum? Even at his age, he's still a perennial 20-goal, 45-point scorer who hasn't missed practically any action the past 5 years. I'd sure as hell take him for the league minimum, just like any other GM in the NHL would....but he's worth (and will get) more than that. -

I agree, Luongo is overrated and not worth his massive contract, they could have signed a solid goalie and then add another impact player with the money left over. -

You are in no position to challenge my "knowledge of the game" when you are arguing against hockey geniuses (who built multiple cup champion teams) in Holland, Jim Nill, and Jim Devellano... Seriously? Your opinion is the minority. I'm siding with the entire Red Wings' management for the team they built this year. You are the minority here. And you say this isn't a video game? I think the only one here playing the video game is you. I doubt Holland, Nill and Devellano have time to play video games, they are too busy building championship teams. What's your excuse? -
1 pointFriday August 13th, 2010 15:00 I've been getting by with the help of a party of lost souls, similarly deprived of their will to live. They've banded together years ago to generate hockey substance and moral support to feed off of, and many have made it through difficult times in the past due to their forum. Patience is wearing thin, however. Verbal criticism is not in short order here. People are so desperate for hockey substance that members take their anger out on those who don't provide the amount of hockey-related content that they're used to during feeding season. I think they feel teased in the face of adversity and malnourishment. The locals call these folk trolls, but I don't see the resemblance. I think we're all just lost. Others have already resorted to the most desperate of measures. Suggestions have been offered to pray to the Blueadams Deity of Line-combos for his endless advice on who should be paired with whom. Some are delusional enough into believing a "lazy and sucks" thread will satisfy our hunger, but I know the truth. One particular fellow has adopted a masochistic tendency to endlessly relive the Battle of '08, where are beloved warriors slayed the enemy to achieve ultimate victory. I don't suspect he has too much longer on this planet. While as exhausted as ever, with every tick of the clock comes the faintest bit of hope that we'll actually pull through this. If I can make it through tonight, perhaps the anticipation of the smell of blood mixed with ice will keep me going until game time. One can only hope. Echolalia

gcom007 - What do Ozzie's Rings and Mike Vernon's career record have in common? They have nothing to do with this post season! EVA- I agree he should have played less during the season, however Babs didn't think a rusty Ozzie could pull it out. Not my opinion not my decision. The other option was 3 other rookies. Yes Howard needed to rest more during the season, however the only way Babs thought he could get any wins was to play Howard. Can you imagine the overreaction here if the Wings finish 9th. You may say well what does that have to due with anything, the pressure on this org to make the playoffs and a run at the cup is higher than any other team. Babs had to do what he could, was it what caused the loss to SJ, no! Games 1 and 2 how many special teams goals did SJ score? Three goals, dude this is not 1999 anymore do me a favor and look through the scores of the rest of the league during the post season and tell me how many games the winning team scored 4 or more! Sure it is about 50/50, what does that prove, 3 goals is not that big of a hurdle. How many goals did the Wings average in wins? and Losses? see you only provide one side, the side that helps you. I would be just as worried that the goalie has to give up less than 2 goals to get wins. But that is just me, I think the team lost as a whole, including Howard. PK goals were almost guaranteed at the end, and you can say that was on Howard all you want, but that is you being biased! Oh and anything to say about the Hart thing? He is a rookie, lets see what he can do next year, he could be the next Raycroft, He could be the next Vokoun, the next Richter, the next Carey, or even the next Chris Osgood, which based on their relationship and personalities is probably the most likely, and hey a 400 win (not that Howard has that much time left in his career) goaltender is pretty damn good. Last thing on this subject, you keep stating you supported and support Howard, but everything I read in your posts says the opposite. Stop avoiding direct questions and it may not look like that. Sorry that is the way your posts read, you make generalizations about goals he let up, and twice I have asked you for specifics and then you directly quote me and still don't point to any specific goals. Do you know who needs to say to people they support Howard "really I do, I do I support him, I always have and I will prove it", people who don't, they are trying to prove it to themselves as much as the people reading it. It is like saying "I am only going to say this once" if it is the truth you don't have to worry about saying it once, twice, a hundred times! (Thanks Cal Lightman for that quote! lol!) -

RedWingsin2011 gave a reaction for a post in a topic
Yes, because his level of play when he was in his prime is surly a perfect indication of how a player will perform at age 39. . He played well over 17 minutes night last season, paired with two of the top 5 centers in the NHL and put up decent points, but in no way would he be an improvement over anyone in our top 6. Even last year with the Islanders he managed to put up 36 points in 61 games despite getting heavy powerplay and ice time. Guerin isn't a bad player, and I never said he wasn't good in his prime, but to think he is still an effective top 6 forward in the NHL is pushing it, especially on a team like the Wings. Last season's numbers were a product of heavy ice time and line mates, no matter how good his numbers 10 years ago were. -

Guerin's defense leaves some to be desired but to say he was terrible last year is beyond a stretch. See my post above. The guy can still put the puck in the net...and for a fairly cheap amount now-a-days. Funny how some rip guys like Guerin who are past their prime, yet they can still put the puck in the net and are going to be paid lightly. That's exactly the type of players you see on the Wings roster year-in and year-out since the cap was instituted. Those are the guys that are needed to successfully round out a team and make them deep. Which is exactly why I said any NHL GM would jump at him for the league minimum. Nowhere did I say he was worth $4M, but the league minimum is equally ridiculous. -

You have to remember that for a large part of last season he was on either one of Malkin or Crosby's wing. Not saying he's entirely washed up, but I think it would be unrealistic to expect 25 goals from him anywhere else then the top line. -
