It does nothing of the sort. Anxiety is an emotion. I didn't say he had "mental health issues" because I thought it would be somewhat equivocal.
There is nothing gross, simplistic, remarkable, or narrow about my comment. I think I understand in some way what he described in the early interview, and it could be something that still affects him.
Some people think their observation is infallible and they make statements that are disrespectful. I'm calling for compassion as it is possible there is more to the issue than they see.

I think he has emotional issues. Wasn't it mentioned a few years ago that he was struggling with depression? I've had a job that required a lot of travel and I struggled with those issues too. Give the guy some slack.
Fedorov had personal issues too. I remember Bowman snatching a heckler's sign that criticized Fedorov's contract dispute during one of the '90's playoff runs. He didn't want him to lose his confidence.
Think of your own performance at work. Do you always perform at the highest level? Especially when you are down about something? No one has any evidence to suspect him of malfeasance.

I think his rush to get back on the ice should improve certain peoples' view of his work ethic. He knew Zetterberg was going to miss and tried his best to step up. He played well, but was obviously still not healthy. That's what we want out of him though, right? Sacrifice? I hope he gets healthy.

Maybe a hockey guy would do a bad job in their mind? They do choose to pay him that ~$270K per franchise, after all. Maybe the owners know better? The players (via the competition commitee) and former players (Shanahan/Campbell) are responsible for most of the negative changes most people complain about. Bettman isn't God; his powers are limited.

Chunkylover got a reaction from P. Marlowe in Franzen: "I am not a goal scorer"
It's a good thing none of you guys are coaches! The guy was making a pretty straightforward statement. He's at the other end of the spectrum of guys like Yzerman, Gretzky, Crosby, Ovechkin, etc. Goal-scorers are often very snobby. Good for him that he's not, but he can be, and a good coach is able to bring that out. Sort of like how Bowman would "coddle" Fedorov to keep him productive. Humans are very complex. Don't hate on him.

    Happy people perform better.
People do what they enjoy with more effort and efficiency than what they dislike.
People are more willing to sell out for others if there is an atmosphere of mutual respect.
What Mule said is true, and likely applies in the current situation. However, sometimes people refuse to enjoy things and work hard at them as if it were a life's goal. Hopefully that is not our teams problem. If he is saying it, it is probably bouncing around all over in the locker room, starting with the coach, so it is probably true.

Cries for toughness are funny. We're all for vigilante justice when some punk is running around or hacking and slashing, yet we mock those who fight after a clean hit.
Enforcing rules is for refs. Otherwise, hockey is tough. The Wings aren't asking to soften the game to suit them and they aren't quitting, so in reality, despite your observation, there is no problem.

Who cares? Not saying those hits aren't enjoyable and it is impossible to say with any certainty whether they can impact a game or not. If they play tough defense and never hit it's still hockey.

He's probably more like Mario, but injuries kept his name from receiving the prestige it might otherwise have merited. High draft, immediate impact player, something of a whiner, injuries keep him out but dont affect him when he returns.

If I understand it correctly I like it. It sounds like they would get their six California and Western Canada games out of the way on two respective monster trips. They already do long trips anyway so that shouldn't be an issue. Plus the second game would be intense, like a mini-playoff series.
Am I the only one who favors staying in the West for competitive reasons? The Wings notoriously play down to inferior opponents and I'm not so sure they would dominate the East like many here.

I think the author is on to something. I was in pure disbelief when DRW fans on message forums started crying when Sharks landed Brent Burns and acted like it was all Holland's fault. DRW fans were pissed because they think Wild would easily take Hudler + Kindl for Burns and a 2nd... then rant on that Holland didn't even try. That entire thing just really amazed me how ignorant some DRW fans (arm chair GMs) really are. This time of year is always the same, they expect Holland to make a block buster signing/trades at all costs, no matter how bad it hurts the future, just for the sake of making block buster signings/trades.
Then the Ericsson re-signing really took the cake. Lol. People thought Ericsson, despite probably being worth $3.5+ in the open market, should take no more than $1 million from Holland. When Holland gave him a slightly over-paid contract, which will likely be considered a bargain in year or so, Red Wings fans went ape s*** like he wiped his ass with the American flag or something, while completely ignoring that his cap hit doesn't hurt the team what-so-ever.
I have to agree with the author, he is right that DRWs are the most unrealistic and unappreciative fans in the game.

No, 29 owners respect him as well.
    I don't hate him.
Most people that do blame him for things he hasn't really been responsible for.
It's not Bettman's job to make fans happy, he is supposed to make the owners happy. He doesn't work for us, he doesn't work for the players, he doesn't work for TV, he works for the owners and is answerable to them.
It is the owners' responsibility to make the fans and players happy. Which is why salaries for players are so high, and why owners are always trying to find ways to cut costs to the fans without compromising the ability to generate revenue. No money in means no money out.
Clearly, based on the 18-year tenure, Bettman is doing a good job as determined by the only people who really should matter to him. If you aren't happy with VS or southern teams, blame the owners who moved them or the networks that despised the game.

I saw someone mention before that the Wings have some sort of agreement with the league to move east before Columbus, even though CBJ is further east than Detroit.
I'm not sure I really want them to move to the Eastern Conference though. I think they'd be more likely to sink down to the level of the Eastern teams rather than maintain the high level they have from being constantly challenged in the West.
