goalie gets ran, and getting our asses kicked by the worst team in the league and no one is angry enough to go after the guy. This is hockey, and its infuriating that this team is filled with wimps.

Nothing new here and I agree 100%, but this conversation is going to go nowhere good

I didnt really think that the bump on Conklin was retaliation worthy. That being said, I thought what Jack Johnson did to Filppula early in the game deserved a punch to the face. Johnson literally steam rolled his head with his fist (knocking Fil down), then shoved him and fash washed him while Fil was on the ground.

I also didn't like the end where Zetterberg was taking shots as the horn blew

B b bb b but for the wings to sign a tough guy he has to be able to score 30 points a year and play 15 minutes a night... eventhough emmerton provides a lot of nothing.

Seriously, Dorsett is under 6 feet, runs around at the end of a blowout game than goes and has his way with the wings next game? This team had no spark last game at all, its pathetic

I pray for this

This will only happen though if Kenny gets some balls and ship some players out of here for some tougher players.

Hudler, Homer, Stuart, should be gone. Emmerton and Ericsson should be shipped out for some tough players that can fill bottom 6 and 6th, 7th D man roles. We should have a full year of Smith who is tough as nails and we got some guys down in GR who are gritty and could have an impact.

Moen, Gustad, Prust, and Asham should all be Kenny targets in FA.

Oh and in before the "we need Parise/Suter" crowd, it is obvious Kenny will be after those 2 hard.

I have nothing against those players you listed but they're flavor of the week names. There are times when I would definitely like to see more push back from the Wings too. But their philosophy has generally been to use the 4th line as a breeding ground for their prospects to become accustom to the NHL.

I just don't see how it does any good to have a guy like Nyquist play on the 4th line with bad players. Might as well send him down and call up Andersson to play those minutes or just give them to Mursak.

Guess I would rather have tough players on the 4th line then useless ones and top 6 forward prospects who waste away and get lost for nothing because they never had a chance to showcase in a larger role.

Not saying this will happen with Nyquist but it probably will with guys like Emmerton, Mursak, and Andersson.

Its funny though, Babcock is calling out this teams physicality in an article on mlive but than if a poster or 2 say it on here its terrible and blasphemy. Guy gets a few negatives for saying what Babcock has been saying as well, go figure

Babcock can have an opinion when he starts making coaching decisions that will help the team. I.E. putting Nyquist on the ice for more than 5 minutes during a game and keeping guys like Cleary and Abdelkader off the ice during overtime.

Cries for toughness are funny. We're all for vigilante justice when some punk is running around or hacking and slashing, yet we mock those who fight after a clean hit.

Enforcing rules is for refs. Otherwise, hockey is tough. The Wings aren't asking to soften the game to suit them and they aren't quitting, so in reality, despite your observation, there is no problem.

Threads about this team being soft have gotten old.

That said, I agree. Last night was irritating to watch, and I'm as sick as anyone seeing this team constantly roughed up with no answer. I agree with Holland and Babcock's argument for not giving a roster spot to a pair of fists for a toughness sake. Ideally, we would be filling spots with guys who can play, pressure the opposition, and contribute. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. Our fourth line is beyond useless. So much so, that even with talent like Nyquist knocked down the lineup, we won't play them more than 5 minutes and 9 shifts.

I might get flamed for this, but I honestly don't know a tough guy in the league who is more useless on the ice than Emmerton is. Doesn't help your argument when you can't ice your 4th line as it is.

Completely agree about the 4th line. I know the Red Wings philosophy is an emphasis on skill, but it wouldn't be the worst thing ever to just change that idea for guys playing five minutes per game. I think Emmerton is just roster filler and nothing more, though it's also kind of unfair to ask a "skill" player coming up to continue to play that role in such limited ice time. Nyquist may as well not even dress if he isn't going to play with Datsyuk -- they are wasting his talent throwing him out there with Emmerton and Holmstrom.

I'm pretty neutral overall on needing someone to fight consistently. However, I would be thrilled if Holland actually added a couple physical players to create something that actually resembles a useful 4th line in the future. Having some big bodies there that will forecheck hard and ideally kill penalties would be so much more valuable than whatever the hell the Red Wings 4th line presently does (nothing). There's no identity right now -- I haven't noticed Emmerton do anything in months, Mursak skates around real fast and Holmstrom is stuck there because he is nothing more than a PP specialist that doesn't do anything else worthwhile.

Three lines of skill and depth is plenty. The 4th line should be designated to provide energy and some grit. Derek Dorsett is a maniac against the Red Wings, but he contributes still offensively, which is seemingly a requirement to make the Red Wings roster. Eric Nystrom was on waivers. There are always viable options available and yet it seems like every year the front office tries to force borderline prospects with minimal offensive upside into a role that nearly every other team in the league uses to carry some "sandpaper".

Besides addressing the glaring need for a top-six forward (or two), my biggest hope this summer is Holland does a complete revamp of the 4th line. I'm also hoping to date Kate Upton as well.

I'm really getting sick and ******* tired of the same bulls*** arguments being made on these boards time after time after time. It's like a broken record that's had the needle taped down. Nothing new is ever said, no one's minds are changed, nothing different is brought to the table. It's like any thread about HWSNBN*. The same circle jerk consisting of the same damn people shouting the same incomprehensible babble over one another until they pass out or a mod locks/deletes the thread.
