In USA we have freedom of speech. This is freedom to say just about anything in public... But there's the key words: "Just about". Because you do not have the freedom to use "fighting words". Fighting words as defined by wickerpedia: Fighting words are written or spoken words intended to incite hatred or violence from their target.

Racism is real.  Racism is stupid. 
On the other hand, if we look at how many players in the league are from Canada (almost half) and Europe (over a quarter) it seems out of place for the players to do things the way that the other leagues have been doing.  Kneeling for anthems comes to mind.  It's one thing to disrespect one's own flag and military.  It's quite another to disrespect one's host country's flag and military if one is a visitor. 
Taking a couple of days off for reflection on the state of racism in the world and its implications on the lives of people everywhere is a reasonable action for a league with a lot of national, if not racial, diversity.  I am glad to see any group of people acknowledge the need to improve racial relations without doing anything which is violent, destructive, or insulting to another group of people who likely despise racism as much as they do.
Now if only we could convince racist people that their actions are stupid.  Unfortunately, stupid is not fixable.  All we can do is prevent it from spreading, and for that, we all need to speak up. 

Yzerman could literally unbuckle his pants, drop trou, squat down, shart directly into a ladle, and then spoon-feed it to this fanbase, and 9/10 fans would turn around, thank him for it, and tell the rest of us how delightful the turd tastes.

Rumor has it Yzerman actually wanted to pay Fabbri a lot more than this, but Fabbri wouldn't accept the deal. Now that's CHARACTER.

The common ground seems to be the one year. This is where it appears Yzerman truly fuked up TBH. Regardless of cap hit we are going into the next contract with him having full UFA rights. So we're gonna either have to trade him or let him walk possibly or be in a worse position to negotiate. Would have been much smarter on Yzerman's part to give him 3.5 at one year (we all agree we don't need the savings right now), even if it's an over-payment.

No it wouldn't when you consider that he's never been able to contribute at that level consistently. If asking to prove he can stay healthy and contribute at that level, after years of inactivity, is offensive then he probably doesn't need to be on the team anyway.
He's played 216 out of a possible 410 games in which he's been on an NHL roster. If you think the average player misses roughly 50% of their 5 year careers with injuries I don't know what to tell you.
I don't agree that Mantha is a "good comparable". He's just good for your argument. At the time that Mantha signed his current deal he was coming off two consistent .6 ppg seasons and had no long term injury history. Fabbri, on the other hand, scored .6 ppg this year and missed most of the previous 3 years with a VERY significant injury. And even before THAT injury Fabbri has never played a full season. So really the ONLY thing comparable is that .6 ppg figure. Since then Mantha has been injured more often, but if you wanna compare broken hands and ribs and a punctured lung (all of which can heal to 100%) with two blown out ACLs (which can never be as structurally sound as they used to be) then ok.

injuries are a concern for both players. However Fabbri gets a significant raise because of the gumption and cup level character. Mantha has never displayed character like this. Get away from the front of the net if ur not gonna deflect the pucks with character

He got a big raise because of his CHARACTER. Yzerman loves guys with CHARACTER. Fabs may not be fast, may not be big, may not be that astute defensively, may not even be that skilled. But boy does he show real CHARACTER out there. He could probably CHARACTER a puck into the back of the net if he just CHARACTERED a little more. Throw a weak check that takes you out of position? No worries, just put some CHARACTER on it. Id give Mantha a massive raise too if he showed some CHARACTER but he doesnt CHARACTER nearly as much as Fabs does. Imagine an entire team of Fabbris CHARACTER. Now that would be something.

I don't want this to become about politics though. Lets keep this on hockey and diversity in the NHL. I'm glad you mentioned Seattle, as we are the first team with female scouts and about 40% of upper management is female, but we do have to do a better job at getting people of color in the room and into coaching positions and such.

You're nicer than me. With his track record, injury history, and RFA control, I would have bridged him at $1.5 AAV. It's beyond comical that Yzerman handed him nearly double this lol didn't even try to bring him to arbitration... I'm starting to think we have a serious Illitch problem - not a GM problem - cause Yzerman is doing the same crap that Holland did.

Remember that time Holland signed Mikael Samuelsson to a 2 year, 3 million AAV contract and everyone around here LOST THEIR MINDS? That was after Samuelsson had posted three consecutive years in which Samuelsson had either scored 50 points, or was on a 50 point pace. That's a track record Robby Fabbri can't even boast.  His previous contract with Vancouver after posting numbers much closer to Fabbri's current production? 2.5 million AAV. AND those were both UFA contracts. Guys who score like Fabbri are a dime a dozen.
Or how about when we signed Thomas Vanek (the first time) for 2 million dollars after three of the worst seasons of his career (all of which were better than anything Fabbri has ever done)? People loved that contract right? Then we signed him again (as a UFA) after a year away from Detroit in which, yet again, out performed anything Fabbri has ever done. This time for 3 million. And the crowd went wild, right?  Nope.
UFAs who outperform Fabbri don't literally grow on trees. But they might as well. So giving that money to a guy with as many question marks as Fabbri has, and as little leverage as Fabbri has, is definitely an overpayment.

I don't know if the Wings have in the past or not, but I'd highly doubt they do now. Too many Americans. The Europeans, and even moreso the Canadians, seem to be a lot more progressive and open about their sexuality. I read somewhere the a staggering amount of Canadian men, something crazy like 8 out of 10, admit to having had homosexual experiences. My mind was blown. Americans just aren't that open or progressive about our sexuality so I doubt the Wings have any now that all the leaders in the locker room are Michigan guys.

I think Yzerman should package those two together for a top 10 pick. I was excited when Zadina dropped, but after his bold statements about filling their nets, then he failed to even fill AHL nets, I have my doubts. Trade these two, get Askarov with the pick...or take FWD at 4, D with the pick from these two, G with the Dallas pick (I mentioned above.)
