Son of a Wing reacted to krsmith17 in Trouba or Pick
I don't think you think highly enough of Trouba, or what he would bring to this team... All his numbers point to him being a legit top pair defenseman, right now at the age of 22, and he will most likely develop into a true number one within the next year or two. Trouba would instantly be our undisputed number one (I know, not saying much on this team...), he logs a ton of minutes, can run a power-play, kill penalties, hits, blocks shots, clears the net-front, and drives possession.
What are the chances we get anything close to that in this years draft? I'd say slim to none. Sure, Liljegren could develop into a good offensive defenseman, maybe he even becomes a top pair guy, but I highly doubt he will become anything close to a well rounded player like Trouba.

Yeah, it's a no-brainer for me, I'd take Trouba every time in that scenario. I'd even strongly consider it if the trade were made after the draft lottery and we won the top pick. Not saying I'd do it for sure, but I'd definitely have to think long and hard about it. I don't think Nolan Patrick is going to be an absolute stud, certainly nowhere close to the level of McDavid or Matthews, and he probably fits closer to a player like Hall (although a center), maybe even Nugent-Hopkins or dare I say, Yakupov... And look what Hall was traded for last year, and Trouba is light-years ahead of Larsson. I think Patrick's potential is about the same as where Trouba is at now in his development, and I still think Trouba has a ton of room to grow. I guess it just depends what you value more, the number one center, or the top pair defenseman? We need both, but I think we have a bigger need for the top pair (number one) defenseman.

Lets just say for conversation sake Holland had nothing to do with 98 and 02, what is your reason to discredit him for 2008?
At the end of the day Yzerman has not won a cup, I dont see how you can say he is clearly the better GM. I do think that Yzerman has made better moves in that past few years and appears to understand the cap better then Holland and yes, in 2018 if I had to choose I would choose Yzerman, but you are making it sound like Yzerman has had a better career as a GM then Holland which is a joke.

Who thinks this? A false perception has been created that if you dont turn on Holland and think everything he does is garbage that you are a "Holland apologist" or "a Holland faithful". The funny thing about of the situation, is that majority that are not anti Holland are open to looking at the good and bad that he has done, it's the anti Holland crowd that have their judgement clouded and look at this with a perspective that is very one dimensional. Hyperbole or bust!

Son of a Wing reacted to kliq in Here's a very blunt read.............
Ok...3 of those 4 ages are wrong. Pietrangelo is 27, Tarasenko is 25, Schwarz is actually 24 and Berglund is 28 (you are 7 years off with this one) and other then Tarasenko none of those players are elite. So based based on the fact that they don't appear to be getting any better and if anything are regressing (as a team), and they have proven they can not get it done in the playoffs, they should re-build....right? You always contended that since the Wings got bounced first round, they should tank. Shouldnt that apply to the Blues as well?
For the record, I dont think they should, but my point is with your philosophy, any team that is not a favourite in the here and now, or are not a team that already suck but have a franchise player should automatically tank/re-build. It's easy to say after the fact when hindsight is 20/20 that a team should have re-built, but in the moment when your team is a contender, to just pull back and completely tear things down can be absolutely detrimental to a team and the fan base. The average fan is not going to put up with a team that is constantly hitting the reset button.
You always bring up how the Wings should have started a re-build in 2012, which I'm sorry but at the time was just wrong. I dont know of any team that has 2 elite players on their roster, and a solid group of complementary talent that would make that decision, not to mention there is no way the fans would have accepted it. Add to that the fact that in 2013 we were 1 goal away from making the final 4 and knocking out the eventual cup champions, and it completely makes sense why would Holland did not tear anything down. What he did was start a re-build on the fly and hoped that his kids would become high end players before his elite players regressed, in theory it made sense as it worked between 2002 and 2008. In hindsight, our big 4 regressed quicker then we expected due to injury, and our kids didn't amount to more then top 6 players. When that happened, the next logical move was to speed up the re-build, which Holland sort of did.
With that being said, I am not going to sit here and make it sound like Holland is perfect, he is far from it and definitely made mistakes, especially this past summer. I think that the Nielsen, Ott, and Miller signings were all bad decisions on his part. I think he should have ate Datsyuk's contract, though I get why he didn't considering the reaction from the fans, but never the less it was still a mistake as I think he should have brought up Mantha, Bertuzzi and whomever from the start and rolled with it. I still think that the young core of this team is very good, and with a few extra pieces I think they can make some noise. Hopefully we trade Vanek and Green before the deadline, and try to get rid of Howard and E in the summer. If we pull off those moves, get a good draft pick, trade for the d-man we so desperately need, and throw in a coaching change for a guy like Hitchcock, and I think we are in a lot better of a position then most think.

So basically you think McDavid is going to follow in Crosby's footsteps of matching his salary with his jersey number?

Yes it is called the all star game, and the game itself is just that, a game played with all-stars.
The NHL has turned the all star game into a weekend of festivities for the fans, and I'm sure the players get a kick out of it as well. It would be one thing if the celebs were playing in the actual all star game, but if they have a separate game on a separate day, who cares. You dont like it, dont watch it. I dont care for it, and I dont watch it, but with that being said why would I care if someone else gets a kick out of it and wants to watch. To be upset about something extra that nobody is forcing you to watch makes zero sense to me.
Sounds to me Frank like you just don't like change. You want things to be exactly like they were in the 80's/90's.

Well considering it's impossible for any team to pay a player more than the average of 15 million/year,  I think they'll be fine.
Not to mention he won't make that much regardless.

Ummm....top 100 NHL players, celebrating 100 years of NHL history.  Anyone's career outside the NHL is completely irrelevant, this isn't the HOF where consideration is given to activities outside the NHL.
It's not meant be 100 greatest hockey players of all time, it's top 100 NHL players.

Literally every player has gotten worse under Blashill.  Sheahan is just an easy target.  When your powerplay goes from 2nd in the league to the bottom, and all your players offensive numbers decrease dramatically, it's probably a systemic issue.  Sheahan's definitely not playing well, but the level of scapegoating around here is pretty intense.

Let me put it this way. There's opinion that makes sense and is justifiable and there's opinion that makes no sense, is rubbish and has no justifiable evidence.. That's why people who do that get called out repeatedly. Certain members scapegoat players to make themselves feel better about something that bothers them. When adversity gets in the way as a fan they like to put the blame on something to feel better. Franzen, Holland, Blashill, Swedish players, Ericsson, Helm, Zetterberg, and most likely countless others since they joined the forums.
What makes you think Zetterberg isn't speaking up after every game? Redmond's statement was meant to be figure-of-speech like. Not literal. If you aren't smart enough to realize that then lol.
Take a look at the following post. TheXym has an opinion different than mine. But he can justify his thought process and actually make sense of it. I responded with "well said". It's called having a dialogue. So no, I don't act like people who have different opinions than me aren't real fans. But I do get involved when people spew out nonsense and don't have good reasons/justifiable evidence for it. I'm not a fan of rubbish being spread around the interwebs.
