scotzman 29 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 Shut up. If you were any kind of hockey player you would understand Brown's talent is worth just as much as Delmore's, depending on the team. Move on, everybody else has. What is with you and this Brown guy? Get a room! This may not even be true... Not sure if you've noticed, but a lot of teams are hanging back and waiting it out. All these teams (with the exception of Philly) have not been able to get FA's for years and they are like a kid in a candy store right now. Evaluate Holland after training camp or possibly when the season gets going a bit. By the way, the last time I checked, Chelios and Fischer can clear people out from in front of the net... How many more of those guys do we need on our team? Sounds like you want to rename the team the Detroit Goon-Wings.
Barnes52 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 I also saw it reported on an ESPN message board a couple days ago, saying that the Wings signed him Thursday afternoon, but I didn't believe it. I asked for a source, and got no reply. Also, concerning Delmore, I believe he had a hat trick for Philly in the playoffs a couple years ago, but I imagine somebody already mentioned this. He is all offense and has no defensive ability and is soft. You already have Lidstrom and Schneider to quarterback the 2 power play units, why on earth do we need another? (I'm just venting, nothing personal ). I don't get signing McDonnel and Delmore, it does nothing to address our weaknesses. He has the same reputation everywhere he's played, all about offense, that's why he never stays anywhere very long. Horrible signing (if true)...unless there's a trade in the works

Horrible signing (if true)...unless there's a trade in the works I agree with you, if they signed Delmore, it better be for league minimum; I imagine they just wanted a depth, puck-moving d-man, and you can't really blame them for that. I gather, that if the Wings indeed signed Andy, that Holland is banking on these new rules actually making a difference, which I find unlikely. As for your venting, don't worry about it, I like the abuse.
mutherpucker27 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 Its one thing to sign guys w/ grit, its another to sign guys who we aren't going to be able to put on the ice. I'm not a huge fan of this Delmore thing either, but at least we can put him out there and he'll do something useful. If we're going to sign a big goon, we might as well sign a forward instead of a defenseman, unless you want to dress 7 d-men so we can still use 6 in our regular rotation. At least a goon forward you can just put out there for 4-5 minutes a game so they can go around cheapshotting ppl (which is how most teams do it w/ goons) and just roll 3 lines outside of that. You waste a defensive spot on a goon, and now you've only got 5 defensemen.
kocur26_26 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 Barnes52 your 100% right wings need to get tougher. Wings players will get hurt this year with no one to put fear in the other team. The wings have been to soft for years now and this year will be even worse with hatcher and McCarty gone.Time to get some size, even if he rides the pine most of the game its good to be able to throw a guy out who can set the other team strait if things get out of hand. Besides the days of rolling 4 lines are over we can afford to have a fighter on the bench.

Sounds like you want to rename them the Detroit "Pink Wings" I'd prefer to rename them the Detroit "Fuschia Wings" if that is okay with you. Sounds better than pink... but anything will sound just fine if they are winning and not being suspended and sitting in the penalty box all the time.

I was going to take this post seriously until I read that Chelios can clear the crease. I'm not high on Brown, I can appreciate his role on his team. I'll take anybody who is a "goon", but he seems like a pretty good choice. Just because he can't score goals doesn't means he's not good at what he does. A lot of teams have been active other than Philly. Goon-wings is better than the Faggy-wings.

But remember, there are a few guys out there that can play an effective fourth line role, chip in a goal here or there and give our guys some room. Look at a guy like Chris Simon, he plays from the 1st line to the 4th line, or Tie Domi. They add muscle and can play efective minutes for their teams. It's a no brainer
Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 Another Offensive ''D'' but this one doesn't play Deffense... I remember when he scored 3 goals (in 1 game) for Flyers in playoff 4-5 years ago.

mutherpucker27 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 Here's the other thing. How is having a goon going to protect our star players? What are we going to do, tell the other team "you better not hit us, or we'll sic our goon on you?" Come on. That's not going to stop anyone. Its not like we'd be able to give these guys a lot of ice time or put them on the ice at the same time as our stars. And we'd just as well be playing shorthanded everytime he's on the ice (and likely for the subsequent 2 minutes). And for what? Do you really think anyone's going to treat our players any different b/c we can pull Peter Worrell off the bench? If anything, I've noticed that games tend to get CHIPPIER when goons are involved, which means there will be MORE cheap shots thrown on our stars. Colorado had Parker and Worrell on the roster, and that didn't deter Bertuzzi.

Bootland is 3rd or 4th option -- a larger version of Avery -- he can't hang with heavyweights losing badly to Daryl Sydor (a daisy) was proof of that... We need an aircraft carrier not a pt boat... mutherpucker27 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 Barnes: if there was a player like Chris Simon or Tie Domi (of a few years ago, he's washed up now) on the market, I'd be all over them. Hell, I'd love to have Avery back. But some of these guys I'me hearing thrown around were healthy scratches for teams like the Rangers. There's a difference between a goon and a guy who can be goony AND play hockey. Hell, think we could swing a trade for Georges Laraque? There's a guy I wouldn't object to putting on the ice. Also, read the post a bit more carefully... I said that teams that have not been able to get FA's for a long time. Philly was not a team that was unable to get FA's in the past. Therefore, they would be the exception to the teams who are enjoying their newfound freedom in the FA market. Teams like the Calgary Flames, or the Chicago Blackhawks, or maybe the Pittsburgh Penguins, etc., etc.

mutherpucker27 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2005 Haha, I loved the Chelly/Tuzzi scrums in that playoff series. I remember one sequence where Bertuzzi elbowed Chelly HARD in the back of the head into the glass, knocked his helmet off and everything. So Chelly gets up grabs his helmet off the ice, starts yapping at the ref all the way to the front of the net while shoved his helmet back on his head, then crosschecks Tuzzi in the back 3 times. It was brilliant. And Chelly was like half his size.
