Joseph Harrington is HORRIBLE

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I don't even want to call him Joey- that sounds too personal, like a player that is adored- such as calling Steve Yzerman "Stevie". Harrington is garbage, his fourth year in the league and he's still making idiotic decisions and only throws the ball to Roy and Pollard. Granted, the offensive line sucks, but Harrington has horrible vision of the field, and the decision making skills of a freshman in high school. THEN, there's the playcalling, running up the gut on every 3rd and long hasn't worked once, so let's keep trying it! Mariucci is a bonehead, I'd rather have Fontes back, at least he took some chances.

On the bright side, with Mariucci on the sideline and Harrington at QB, at least we'll be able to pick up Leinhart or Stanton in the draft this year.

I don't blame that loss on 100% joey. Nothing went right today. The lions got behind big very quickly and thats when joey took a ton of chances. The first interception was luck as it got tapped into the defensive lineman's hands. The interception on the roy williams pass was a bad route ran by roy williams.

All the others, were joey's fault.

I haven't given up completely, but if joey plays like this much more, then the lions have to make a quarterback and a coaching change.

Overall, a lot of things went wrong and the bears played a great game.

I'm an outside observer (Colts fan from Indiana), but this game was on my TV today. I thought the Lions offensive line was virtually a sieve the entire game. Harrington never had a chance to set his feet and survey the field before there was a white shirt in his face. He was constantly hurried and flushed from the pocket. Now, I believe a more seasoned and/or talented quarterback could have made better with the situation, but the blame cannot fall all on Harrington.

That having been said, I believe Dan Orlovsky has tremendous upside.

Also, great game by my fellow Purdue alum, Kyle Orton! cool.gifthumbup.gif

Instead of bringing back Fontes, bring back Bobby Ross. At least he was incredibly entertaining to watch after a humiliating loss.

Or, the favorite standby of Morhninweg. Week one: "The bar is high." Week two: "the bar is still high". Week 8: "We're still keeping the bar high". Week 12: "Ok, the bar is a little lower". Gosh, he added a lot of entertainment value. He tried so hard to be positive, it was absolutely breathtakingly funny.

P.S. I didn't watch today's game. I figured after last week's surprise win and everyone patting Joey on the back, they were due to get whacked in the head with that darn bar.

I think it's just time to admit that they are horrible, the play calling is especially horrendous. True, the offensive line sucks big time, but it still doesn't change the fact that Harrington just throws the ball away into coverage. He hasn't matured, and hasn't stopped making stupid decisions, in fact he rarely just takes a sack.

I loved it when Orlovsky came in and actually threw the ball to Rogers, Harrington doesn't even look at him- His default receiver is R. Williams, and if he's covered, he'll go to Pollard. Mike and Rogers are just sort of there, watching. The 3rd & 15 draw plays up the middle haven't worked once, so why is idiot Marriuci still calling them? I usually fight it to the end, keeping hope in my heart, but I'm just ready to admit that they SUCK- and if Farve didn't have one of the worst games of his life last week, we would have gotten killed in the opener too. You can't blame everything on Joey, but the combination of his rookie mentality and our horrible offensive line does not make for a very good day. It's time to give up on him and start looking toward the future- hopefully a future without Mariucci and his bone headed play calling too.

If you own a 3rd round (and very likely lower) pick you can pick up stanton.

Why? Because he doesn't go to U of M or USC? Give me a break- if you've watched this guy play, you know he's the real deal. If he keeps this up, it's going to be a good battle for the Heisman.

First off, Stanton will go higher.

The other thing to consider is Stanton may not even go pro this year. He still has 1 more year and he may stay to increase his value in the nfl draft.

My favorite thing about Marty was he sounded EXACTLY like Bullwinkle. That made me laugh every time he opened his mouth.

You guys are forgetting that the Bears KNEW that he was going to drop back and pass it. That does not help with blitzes, stunts, etc. They gotta keep pounding the ball even if it ain't workin'. If Jones is as good as everyone says he is, which he is, he will eventually make something happen. The O-Line does suck but I only really saw it force one pick. He has to stop throwing off his back freakin' foot, make smarter decisions, and just step up. As Jamie said on the round table he isn't making any progress as a quarterback and for every step he takes forward he takes two back.

Did you guys see Joey hang Pollard out to dry and then Pollard get absolutely destroyed? He can not throw or place the ball for s**t, that throw was almost the final straw. Hopefully he will do better (although a big part of me wants him out). I agree with Sting about Orvlorsky, he has a great arm and pretty good accuracy and is pretty mobile. They are playing Tampa in two weeks which I think will probably be another loss and if it gets this bad again I would really love to see what Orlvosky can do in a quarter, he did well against a good Buffalo defense. It was funny during yesterdays post game when Joey stated that they just need to bounce back like they did after the Rams game when they played Buffalo...I chuckled....and then yelled....YEA YOU DIDN'T EVEN PLAY IN THAT GAME YOU IDIOT.

The lions arent going anywhere, no matter what, until they get an o-line.

And they haven't had an O-line in at least the nearly 2 decades I've been watching them.

Even through the 90s they were drafting linemen every year with their top pick and got crap. Imagine if they had used those picks on skill players and then traded for or signed established linemen?

Maybe Sanders wouldn't have left. If the team had an O-line that was worth a damn..he probably would have posted 3000 yards in a season.

"Tight end Marcus Pollard said he suffered a mild concussion when he was drilled by safety Mike Brown in the fourth quarter.

"That was probably the hardest hit I've had in 10 years," Pollard said. "I guess I blacked out for a few seconds. I remember reaching for the ball, and the next thing I remember was seeing (trainer) Al Bellamy's ugly mug asking me if I was OK."

Nice pass Harrington.

Sucks that Detroit has all of those young offensive 1st rounders and couldnt go out and get some free agent lineman to utilize them all.

They need to go find Art Shell's phone number, see if he is interested in becoming their line coach and hiring his ass to team those boys how to block properly.

"Nice pass Harrington"---

Come on. Have you ever put pads on? That was a cheap shot, head hunting fine. That was an ejectable hit to the head. That was not Harringtons fault.

I don't like Harrington, but, yesterday was not even close to being his fault. Mooch, is not a good coach. Teddy T is a horrible play caller, but he is a "mooch guy" so, that's why he is here, just like Jeff Garcia.

The o-line and the coaching staff have been horrible for 25 years. Nothing is going to change. But, yesterday, was without a doubt, a complete team loss in every aspect. The lanes, the zones, the blitz pickups, the routes, the blocking, the schemes, everything.

The people that blame Harrington for the lions being bad, just don't know what they are talking about. Is he good, yes, is he great, no. Hell even man child Roy Will drops passes. It's been a complete team loss everytime, and this time was no exception, but rather one of the worst team losses we have ever had.

That hit wasn't Harringtons fault? Are you blind? He HUNG Pollard out to dry, if you saw the play you would have seen that. If you haven't seen it I suggest you watch it.

*EDIT*No one considered the hit dirty.

"It wasn't an intentional helmet-to-helmet or anything," Mariucci said. "Sometimes those things happen when guys are playing fast. I was just glad to see Marcus get up and be OK."

Of course that win wasn't all his fault, 4 out of the 5 interceptions however were his fault. Along with all the bad throws and decisions he made. He is mediocre at best right now with poor mechanics. The fact of the matter is that the Lions have to play good in order for Joey to actually win a game and most the time it's Joey not losing the game rather than winning it. Most every game is a team loss but not all, there were three games last year that weren't...

He has to come out firing these next 2-3 games and it's probably not going to happen. He's going up against Tampa Bay, Baltimore and Carolina all with damn good defenses. If he wants to prove that he is worthy of a starting position and can be consistent now is the time.

I listened to WDFN and heard what guys like Stoney, Jamie, and Killer had to say. The blame for this type of game starts with coaching. More than once, they said this game was about a less talented but better coached team that beat a more talented but poorly coached team. More than once, the mentioned that the Lion's did not lose that game yesterday...they lost that game during this past week of practice and preparation.

Mariucci has to go...Ted Tollner has to go...Matt Millen has to go...

The Rams exposed our inability to handle a bltiz during the preseason. It's the coaches jobs to fix that...to work on it...to scheme and plan for it. The Bears watched what the Rams did to us...and just copied it to a 't'...and it worked like a charm. That's inexcusable for the coaching staff...we should have been better prepared...we should have worked on our weakness...

And lets face it...Joey cannot throw under pressure. We've seen 3 full seasons of Joey...and he has consistently shown that when he gets protection, he can do an adequate job. But when the o-line busts down, Joey starts backing up and throwing off of his back foot and bad things happen. Either find a way to protect him or find someone who's willing to stand in there and get smacked around for the rest of his career. One or the other...I don't care which....

Preparation awful...play calling awful...execution awful...just awful all around...

And here's the thing...other teams are gonna blitz like mad too! So we gotta either figure this thing out, or get smacked up side the head every week. Find away to pick up the blitz...or back up the blitz by running the ball past their blitz consistently...give Joey one more second by putting him in the shotgun more often...run more short slants to get that ball out quick for a short catch...

This team is doomed...

^^^Which is why they have to establish a running game as well, teams won't blitz nearly as much if they are running the ball well. No run game = huge loss, it's as simple as that. Teams know that if they stuff the run Mooch gives up on it and starts to give Joey the ball all the time. Add in blitzes with that and the recipe is games like Chicago.

And just think, Millen signed a 5 year extension :/

1. I did watch it

2. I watched it with my old college football teamates,3 of which were DB's. I even talked to my old college

teamate who plays for the ravens, and as of this morning, he being a DB said it was a cheap shot.

3. Something that Mike Brown is known to have done, even back in college. He is just known as being

discreet about it.

With that said, don't get me wrong, I don't like Joey. I think along with him, and the entire coaching staff, they need to start over. Get rid of them, and get rid of the O-Line, or spend the next 2 weeks teaching them how to block. I think that staff is terrible. I think Juron, Tollner, and Mooch, and basically the rest of em should all be gone. Millen included. Horrible. Cannot adjust for the life of them. It's amazing.

You are right about the running game, which makes me wonder why KJ only got I think 8 carries?? He should average 25-30 carries.

I know for a fact that KJ got 8 carries in the first half but not sure about the second half. I personally think that Detroit should just mimic San Diegos offense, especially since people were PERSISTANT in saying that Joey Ballgame is going to be the next Drew Brees and light it up this year :/ But they should give KJ the ball 40 times including passes a game. Defenses would be so worried about KJ that Joey could go deep with any reciever. Unfortunately Mooch will not change a thing so all this is for none.

Unfortunately Millen and co. are here to stay...

what killed me most about that play is no one got in brown's face about it. The lions got punched in the face and just took it. This team has no F****** balls.

Matt Millen was one of the toughest guys ever to put on pads. I find it hard to believe that he can help create a team that lacks toughness. This team has mental problems. They seem content with just being a below average team. WAKE UP GUYS!

Yeah, KJ had 8 carries.... the friggin entire game..... Looking at the box score will make a lions fan sick...

Mooch stinks, Tollner stinks, and Jauron stinks.... And, as a GM, Millen sucks as well.

God, I think I threw up in my mouth looking at that stat sheet.
