Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Really tough loss to watch, but at least Clevlen had a nice game. Wouldnt be surprised to see him dealt for someone like Dellucci now. Abreu to the Yanks yesterday, they still need pitching though. This is gonna be a really fun day today, i love deadline day...especially now that we actually have a contender! A few rumors for this morning: Jason Schmidt being targeted by the BoSox and Mets (i hope to god Boston doesnt get him) Soriano apparantly down to 3 teams...Astros, Angels, and the longshot Marlins. The AL Central teams appear to be backing off Lidge possibly to Texas Maddux to the Dodgers Also it was reported that the Tigers offered Roman Colon to the Rockies for Jose Mesa. I am all for dealing Colon for some added late inning bullpen help, but I f'n HATE Jose Mesa. Colorado turned the deal down anyways..
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Lou, you'll like this. Tigers get Sean Casey for a minor league pitcher. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5832350
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 (edited) Im so pumped right now im ready to start rioting in the streets! As for Shelton, oh well, if you take out his first 13 games he really hasnt done anything...and he really needs to work on his swing. Could always come back later in the year. Tigers gave up Brian Rogers...great trade. Edited July 31, 2006 by Lou_Siffer
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 GREAT MOVE! Sean Casey is a good hitter, doesn't strike out that many times either. Nice pick up DD.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 This is sweet, now we have a smart lefty hitter, just what the team needed...and we lost NOTHING. Hell theres still the chance we could trading for another hitter too, as this is no way rules out Soriano.

Acquiring David Dellucci would be just enough IMO
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 I dont think we need to make that move tho. Acquiring David Dellucci would be just enough IMO I agree with that, Im on the fence with Soriano...it really depends on the package we're giving up. Im a little more for it now than i was before though, since we got Casey now who wont be K'ing all the time. Im right with you on Dellucci, and 1 bullpen trade (although its not life or death..) Rice 42 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 MLive Looks like the Tig's still might get Soriano too. The buzz Sunday night was that the Marlins were trying to broker a deal for Soriano with the idea of flipping him to the Tigers in a three-way deal. The Mariners and Twins retain some level of interest in Soriano as well.

Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 the problem with acquiring dellucci is that the phillies have already traded an OF in Abreau. I don't think they will make another move. True, but for a seller like the Phillies i dont think it would really matter if they just plugged someone from the minors in the OF. Plus i think theyre still wanting to deal Pat Burrell, so the Abreu deal isnt stopping that. So if they dont deal Pat the Bat, Dellucci could still go. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 Didn't they say it was supposed to be a seller's market? The Phillies allowed themselves to be bungholed for Abreu and now Casey for a song. Bummer about Shelton though. I have him on both fantasy teams.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 All this talk about Soriano and he goes nowhere!!! What a waste of air time and completely stupid on the Nats part, unless they come right out with an agreement on a contract extention. This was an all out win for the Tigers, with Minnesota, Chicago, Anaheim, Oakland, and even Boston doing nothing. Soriano on Minnesota or Anaheim couldve spelled a little trouble. BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 I am incredibly surprised Soriano didn't get moved. I wonder if the Nats asking price was too high.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted July 31, 2006 I'm happy with the Casey acquisition especially since we didnt give up much at all. I like this team to win the pennant and hopefully do something the playoffs...here we go!

Chicago didn't quite do nothing. They bolstered the bullpen a bit and reacquired Sandy Alomar for like his 8th go-round with the Sox. But I think they paid just as high a price for their new backup catcher, and again for a middle reliever, as the Tigers did for a starting first baseman. Excellent work by Dombrowski

Excellent work by Dombrowski I forgot about them getting McDougal last week, I do think that was a good move. I hadnt given this much thought cause my mind has been so occupied with possible trades, but in another month i'd like to see Sanchez and even Tata called up for the pen. Might as well use these guys for the stretch run and playoffs, ditch Colon, Ledezma, or Grilli if need be.
wingsdiehard13 33 Report post Posted August 1, 2006 I am shocked Soriano did not get traded. Happy with the addition of Casey, looks like he will start tonight. Now the Tigers have to start playing baseball again :!:
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted August 1, 2006 Casey's first at bat, he fouls off about 8 pitches and then smokes an RBI single to center. Right after a diving stop at first to end the inning defensively. Sounds like a winner of a trade so far Real shame, by the way, that the Tigers blew that game in Minny the other day, because it spoiled a beautiful debut by Clevlen. Kind of a little too far to be looking ahead, but what about a 2009 outfield of Maybin, Granderson, and Clevlen?
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted August 2, 2006 8th inning update: Never seen anyone hit for the cycle before Very cool. 3B, HR, 1B, 2B for Guillen. Last player to hit for the cycle for the Tigs: Damion Easley, who incidentally, wore #9. Casey homers, Clevlen homers. Tigers oughta just start calling people up willy-nilly so they can make their Tigers debut and have terrific games. Clevlen's practically begging for the rookie-pie-in-the-face. I dont even think it'll take that long, Maybin will be ready by 2008...he's that good. Next season he'll be in AA, since he's tearing up A ball. Magglio will still be here but he'll have to DH, talk about having 3 great athletes in the OF! You know the defense will be outstanding. I'm so happy we got Casey. BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted August 2, 2006 According to 1270 am, the last Tigers player to hit the cycle on the road was George Kell in 1950. Nice job there, Carlos! And congrats to Verlander, first 14 game winner in the majors.
