betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 I could sit here all week posting fun stories about the Tigers, but this one kind of stuck out to me. Adams Street comes alive with Tiger-mania This is why I don't like parking-lot ballparks. Kauffman Stadium comes to mind. Maybe future generations of Tigers fans will think of Adams Street the same way we think of Michigan and Trumbull.

RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 For someone whose been watching Detroit sports for along time: this is HUGE!!!! Probably the biggest sports moment in Detroit history with some company from the 1997 Red Wings imo. Sure we've had other championship teams, but the Tigers going to the World Series is unbelievable! (pinches oneself) I've been wearing my 1984 Playoff button every day since the postseason started and I'm not going to take it off until this thing is finished! Superstitions- lol! I'm also going to be in Michigan for the UM game the 2nd weekend of the Series (if nec). Holy crap I hope I'm there for a championship moment downtown Detroit - that would be awesome!!!!!!! p.s what the he$$ am I going to do all this week? betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 FWIW, the Mets won Game 4, so the NLCS is now essentially a best-of-three. One more game in St. Louis, and then back to Shea for one or two more. We'll have to wait til at least Wednesday night to learn the Tigers' opponent.

BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 What an amazing season this has been. There's really nothing to add. That bomb by Maggs was incredible. The Tigers in the World Series. Figures it happens the year I decide to move out of Michigan
dallas27 7 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 Listening to Drew and Mike this morning and they were talking to Eckersley. If you didn't know he predicted sweep for this series and predicts another one if they go with this rotation: Game 1: Kenny Game 2: Bondo Game 3: Verlander Game 4: Kenny And I agree, the series will be a sweep if the skipper goes with that rotation. Mets and Cardinals only have one dominate pitcher each. They are going to eat up whoever they play.
MSUDoubleJ19 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 I know I'm a little late but . . . . YAY TIGERS!!! I watched them win instead of watching State lose over the weekend. God that homer was amazing. And my big headed Tiger won MVP!!! Woo woo. I had tailgated all morning and my boyfriend spent the whole time shoving the broom he had brought with a Tigers shirt attatched in strangers faces and yelling "GO TIGERS!" Luckily most people were Tigers fans and enjoyed seeing a drunk man wave a broom in their face.

RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted October 16, 2006 Does anyone know if the NLCS rain delay will affect the WS schedule?? I would think they still want game 1 showcased on Saturday no matter what. This would be good, because it will mean no days off for the opponent.....

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Rogers the only pitcher with batting experience because he played in the NL for a while. Verlander probably has the least amount of experience so that is why having Verlander in game 2 slot works.

Verlander probably has the least amount of experience so that is why having Verlander in game 2 slot works. I dunno....Verlander's so closely removed from college where they have no DH, I'd think that might work better. But really, I would never base the rotation off of who's a better hitter. I mean, three of the four pitchers have to bat anyway. And we are a little better equipped than most AL teams would be for the Series, the DH in our lineup is just an extra outfielder rather than one of the lineup's big boppers who can't field well, like so many other AL teams have (Thomas, Hafner, Giambi, etc.) My rotation would be exactly the same as it's been. Why mess with what works? Except for the day Carpenter or Glavine pitches, we have the clear advantage anyway. And we bombed Carpenter en route to a sweep of the Cards in the regular season. P.S.: Besides, if I had to choose which pitcher not to bat, it'd definitely be Rogers. I don't want the 41-year-old huffing and puffing around the bases, potentially in a warmup jacket....if he's on first, Granderson could hit a double or triple and probably catch up to him. timothy1997 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 anyone have any guesses on who should throw out first pitch at comerica and who should sing national anthem? There will be at least 2 games at comerica. For first pitch, I would have Mickey Lolich throw to Bill Freehan (especially if the Tigers play the Cards). The two were outstanding in the 1968 series. I heard rumors of a 1984 reunion and I say why not. Have Tram, Whitaker, Gibby, Morris, Lemon, Bergman, Evans, Parrish, Heardon and Co. Have Sparky Anderson be the last introduced and have him throw out the first pitch. For National Anthem...I am not sure. I would go with Bob Seger for one game and Kid Rock for the other, but there are a lot of other choices that you could make.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 First pitch I would go with someone from the 84 or 68 Tigers. I think Tramm would be nice. Let him know that he's still a Tiger and still appreciate by the team and by the city. As far as the National Anthem, there's so many great choices. Maybe Aretha Franklin for one game and Bob Seger for another. That way you've got Motown, and rock n roll.
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted October 17, 2006 My votes: first pitch=Ernie Harwell (if he can throw!) National Anthem=Kid Rock (not gonna happen though). I'd be OK with Stevie Wonder or Bob Segar. Aretha did the Superbowl anthem - that's the only reason I didn't pick her - like to see someone else. I dunno, the old man is in pretty good shape - he might surprise us, like he has so far. I wouldn't mind seeing it.

Rob Parker of the News wrote (I'm paraphrasing) "it's too early to heal the wounds left by Tram's firing.", this in reference to the idea that Tram should be invited to throw out a first pitch. WTF. I have never liked Parker and I never will. This is why. What better way to let Tram and the city know that his work is part of the reason we're here today, and we appreciate it. Alan Trammell was in some respects a sacrificial lamb and that's not right. I say Lolich to Freehan for Game 1 and Tram to Lou for Game 2. As for the anthem, whoever you don't pick for it could still sing at the 7th inning stretch. But I am totally in agreement that every major sporting event in Detroit, such as the World Series, should always feature Detroit artists like Seger or the Four Tops (who I think sang the anthem during the ALCS). Oh, and they must find a way to honor Ernie. Something at Comerica Park must be named for Ernie. The Ernie Harwell Broadcast Booth. Harwell Field at Comerica Park. The Ernie Harwell Flagpole (which needs to be moved back into center field, by the way). Any ol' thing, but something.

Verlander probably has the least amount of experience so that is why having Verlander in game 2 slot works. That really doesn't matter, it's not like they are banking on a pitcher to hit a clutch double. Pitchers are automatic outs which is why you will see pitchers just sit there and take every pitch untill they strike out. This is the World Series, no messing around. I know the rotation has been working BUT this is the World Series. At this point and time pitching Kenny and Bondo is an automatic win the way they are pitching. If Kenny pitches game 1 and 4 that gives him enough time to rest if there is a game 7. Also, MLB decides who throws out the first pitch (I think) and who sings the national anthem...I know they pick who sings the national anthem. Look for some stupid ass American Idol winner or something stupid like that. Edited October 17, 2006 by dallas27
