Terry Foster discussing how UM needs to get outside help in spending the money to hire a coach.

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...0326/1127/rss13

Like I've said, UM could be a good job. But until the admin stops treating hoops like a redheaded stepchild, it won't be.

I think this time around U-M will spend money towards basketball. Remember they had a deal with Patino almost done, but then Bo freaked out, and said they were not paying enough attention to football (totally not true). Looks like Davidson has dished out a lot of money in the past. He should just pay to fix up Chrisler, and then let U-M pay for a coach.

Yes, but that was before UM was placed on probation. It's a lot easier to attract high level coaches to a program that just had a good run and a lot of talented players for a number of years, than a program that has extremely outdated facilities, no fanbase, no morale, little university support, and is recovering from being on NCAA probation.

Plus, Michigan is dumping a ton of money in the big house, even with their 8 game home schedule (which is a crock of s***) and some alumni donations, that still isn't cheap. And UM is always going to spend money on football instead of basketball. How sad is the state of the UM basketball program when A) a top coach like Tubby goes to Minnesota and B) the pro-UM media has resorted to begging alumni for money?

I agree with you, but disagree at the same time.

I agree with the following

-Playing 8 home games is BS, but it's becoming a fad with major football teams so they can keep upgrading things to impress people/recruits. College sports is now becoming a buisness, and it's all about saying "hey look what I have"

-U-M has horrible facilties for basketball, and the University has been shy about upgrading

-The Big House did need some major repairs (press box, bathrooms, and wider seats were a huge need), but I do think they went over the top with it.

-U-M won't get a 'high level' coach because of the reasons you listed.

Disagree

-Recovering from NCAA violations. That was a long time ago. If U-M would have hired another coach instead of TA they could be a legit Big 10 team already

-The Patino thing happend right before hiring Amaker...so NCAA garbage was not a factor.

- U-M never contacted Tubby according to Andy Katz. I think it's a smart move. If he can't recruit UK well, how could he do it here? Katz also said Minnesota contacted Tubby 6 weeks ago about coaching. I don't think U-M planned on firing Amaker 6 weeks ago, because there was still a small chance of them going to the tourny.

- U-M has a good basketball fanbase...it's no MSU or Duke, but fans were sick of Amaker, and showing their opinion. If I remember right MSU football games were pretty empty compared to normal the last few games last season too.

Just my thoughts...I think they end up hiring Lowery

Learned from a very reliable source that U-M's top canidate is John Beilein from West Virginia, and a close second Jay Wright of Villanova. Others are still a possibility because they may strike out on them, but guys like Lowery/other upcoming coaches are fading away. Also told me spending money will not be a factor because they will have to pay for Beileins buyout, or pay close to 1.8 million for Wright.

All signs point that Beilein will be U-M's next coach maybe as soon as Monday. I think its a real safe hire, and U-M should improve. They may not become elite, but I'm very pleased with it. The guy has won everywhere he has went, and has also had some very good tourny success at WV, with literally no talent what so ever.

Who are your picks for this weekend? I got UCLA/OSU...both teams get revenge from last year.

Did you ever in your wildest dreams think that Ohio State would survive NOT having Oden for virtually the entire first half AND an off-night from Ron Lewis?

Me neither...but I'll take it :D

I have a theory....just sit Oden out the entire first half. He ALWAYS picks up two fouls and sits out a majority of the first half anyway and then dominates the second half. So why not let him come in and dominate with 5 fouls to give? Of course this will never happen, but it seems to work that way.

And yes, good all around game yesterday.

If we dont win this game, I'm going to develop a serious Florida complex.

while I don't like Florida at all, I can definitely tip my hat to them for getting to the championship game in both football and basketball. It's absolutely unheard of for ONE school to do it in the same year, much less TWO doing it AND going head to head for both titles.

That's crazy.

Anyone who bet on that would be a multi-multi Millionaire right now.....

This has got to be a first right? I mean, the Football National Championship game has only been around for 10 years....so this must be the first time the same two schools faces off in football and basketball for the national championship.

Certainly since at least the BCS.

I wouldn't be surprised that pre-NCAA tournament there were some teams that came close to this feat as well.

If you would have told me a year ago that I would be cheering for OSU to win 2 national championships in 1 year I would have bet you 1 million dollars. Thank God I'm not a betting man!!

FLORIDA SUCKS!!!

I hear you. And I go to school here :P

If anyone could have made a 3.....ANYONE....we win this game, or at least have a chance at the end. Oden had his best game of the season, too bad he wasnt a factor on defense much because Florida was nailing three's all night. I just...ugh....I will never go to Florida for the next 10 years.

Butler...you're in my doghouse all offseason.

You know, there should be a lot of pride in making it to two national championship games in one year...but the fact that we lost both to Florida....it's awful. I...I...screw it. Night everyone...

Go Bucks
