How is it different though? Sorry I have to bring it up, but IMO both are really competitive, but lack important tools. Is it a good thing Millen loves Drew? He also loved Mike Williams, Charles Rogers, and Joey Harrington. Plus like you brought up Martz loved Smoker...same place as Stanton. I'll continue to question this pick until Drew proves me wrong.

Marinelli would probably tell you there's a world of difference, because Stanton didn't have the offield issues that Smoker did. Stanton wouldn't have been drafted by the Lions if he did, because Marinelli puts so much emphasis on character.

Also if anyone is bored out of their mind like me today.....2008 Mock Draft

http://walterfootball.com/draft2008.php

Its quite different i think. Stanton came into the draft as a fairly high regarded prospect, everyone had him in the top 5 for QB's (as high as 3rd) and he was projected to go in the 2nd round. Jeff Smoker was just a 6th round pick that St Louis took a shot with. (like drafting a Jon Navarre)

That is very true. I forgot about Smoker getting in trouble. I thought it was kind of brused under the rug because I thought he dealth with it very well. Huge difference between 5th rounder and 2nd. Lets see what he can do!

Keyshawn Johnson released by the Panthers. For anyone who watched the draft and listened to hear Keyshawn talk about how much he wanted them to take Dwayne Jarrett, i have one word, HILARIOUS!

I'd be shocked if the Titans werent ringing his phone off the hook as i type.

I did too! All the bragging about them 2 being from USC, and how they are going to tear it up. Haha Keyshawn!

Aside from him just being old, another theory im thinking about is i remember Keyshawn made a few potshot remarks at his teammates during the draft. It was indirect stuff, like "We were in a situatation where Delhomme went down and we had nobody". I mean, I dont know if Weinke is still there and granted Keyshawn was right....but thats like a total slap in the face to the backup QBs. Or "We really need that 3rd reciever", again...its kinda like saying the other guys aside from himself and Steve Smith suck.

I thought he took shots at his players too. Like when they drafted Keile (sp?) from USC. He said "He will start right away". He also made simular remarks about their other positions. Not very classy or nice if you ask me

Last I had checked, which was a few weeks ago, Smoker was really tearing it up in the Arena League. Hopefully he gets another shot at the NFL.

Yeah i remember that one too. The first one about having no QB after Delhomme was the one that really caught me offguard, like wait, did he just say that?? It must be a tough spot to have to analyze your own team, but he just wasnt politically correct at all in the way he worded things.

We all know that year after year after year after year that the Lions continue to suck horribly. New personel, new players, nothing has helped. But with the signing of arguably the best wide reciever in the draft for the past 10 season, and signing the mobile Drew Stanton, not to mention getting Tatum Bell from Denver, can these guys help finally turn things around for the Lions??? Personally, I think we will improve for sure. But I still don't think we're making the playoffs. My official prediction for this season is 7-9. Which is sad. But it is an improvement. Hopefully for the first time in 16 years, we will actually not be completely embarassed of our team.

7-9 would be great... but I have my Sanders jersey and paper bag ready just in case.

I hope Backus (sp?) play improves and the defense bends but doesn't break.

I would kill for a 7-9 season after seasons past. Just to have the Lions still in the playoff hunt at Thanksgiving is all I am asking for.

Read something interesting in the paper. Said the Pistons may have a new starting PF, and C next season if they trade Nazr, and if Weber leaves or plays a bench role. They brought the name up of former sparty Zach Randolf. I would love this move! This is assuming Sheed is gone, which many think will happen (tear)

Kitna is predicting 10+ wins and apparently he wants the single season passing TD record as well http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID.../707010585/1049

uhm, k, try .500 first then we can talk

See, I think this was a joke placed out around by some disgruntled Lions fan (take your pick of the million or so). Kitna can't be that stupid to actually think with himself as the QB that the Lions will manage anything over 4 wins. Either that, or he's pulling a Janne Niinimaa "We will win" type of thing, only to have it blow up in his face next season. Sorry, but I'd be very surprised if the Lions were capable of anything higher then 4 or 5 wins next season.

Cory Redding is a great DT and all. But what the hell is Millen thinking, making Redding the highest paid DT in the entire NFL. 7 year 49 million dollar deal?? Im not so sure that was very wise. But then again, what should I expect from the worst GM in sports history?

Keep in mind the salary cap is rising like crazy, so he'll only be the highest paid DT until the next franchise type DT negotiates a new deal. If he'd hit the open market, I guarantee another team would have paid him this type of money.

I look at it this way. We only have a few proven pro-bowler level players on the team. Redding is one of them, so there's no way we could afford to lose him or, just as bad, hold out.

The Lions have to make significant progress this year under Marinelli. Otherwise the team begins to lose faith and the message wears thin. Just look at what happened to Mariucci. IMO, Millen had to get this deal done, and he did.

Those are some very good points, and remember Redding was just moved to DT last season, and Marenelli thinks he could be the best DT in the leauge. I will trust him on that with his great resume of coaching the D-Line.

And then his alarm clock started buzzing.

Yeah no doubt. Im a life-long, die-hard Lions fan, and even I know that the Lions will be LUCKY to even go .500. In fact, I would honestly be shocked if they do. My prediction is a 7-9 season. And thats me giving them the benefit of the doubt in having Calvin Johnson. But im not holding my breath. Not again. Never again. Until I see some spirit and some winning out of this team. I personally don't think Kitna is the answer to get us into the post-season. Who knows, maybe it will be Stanton. Or maybe through an offseason move, or trade, or a future draft, or whatever. But IMO until we have that quarterback position solidified, no way we see the Lions in the playoffs. Even in the very poor NFC.
