Cicada 4 Report post Posted February 6, 2007 just noticed how somilar these 2 teams are.. Games Played 54 Wins 37 / 34 Losses 14 /14 OTL 3 / 6 Thats where the 3 extra points come from...3 OTL's But looking deeper it's even weirder.. vs the East 6-1-0 vs 6-1-1 vs the ATL both 4-0 vs the NE 2-1 vs 2-1-1 vs the West Pacific 6-6-0 vs 8-6-0 NW 8-3-2 vs 8-4-3 Central 17-4-1 vs 12-3-2 Home - both 19-3-3 Away - 18-11-0 vs 15-11-3 looking at these stats we've won / lost pretty much the same with a couple of differences. The main difference seems to be that Nashville have played 5 more games against the central, which they've won.. so it's fair to say we've got an easier finishing schedule down the stretch. we can still win this division...the games against Nashivlle are going to be vital. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted February 6, 2007 While the games against the divisonal foes are important, whats going to make it or break it for the Wings is the final 5 games against the Predators. There's a 20 point swing which will be the difference between 1st/2nd and 4th heading into the playoffs.

Home ice means absolutely squat and I think the Wings will be better off starting on the road, and away from fans that get down on the team if they don't convert every PP advantage. The #1 seed has proven to be a curse to this team. I would love to see an 8th seed team, that's been fighting and clawing to make the playoffs for two months, upend the Preds or Ducks in round 1. Well the wings are soo good at home, and alright on the road.. And the cruse is the president's trophy not just coming in first.. I'd rather have the wings be at home were they will win the first 2 games then head out to the road.. as well i'd like to see the wings play a team like the wild or anyone, but i wouldn't want to see us playing the sharks in the first round

arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2007 As mentioned above my only doubt at the moment (and has been for a while is San Jose) For a considerable while Detroit and San Jose have been locked into the 4th and 5th positions. And that is very likely a first round match up. I have every bit of confidence in this team, but this team has smashed us this season. I'm not exactly positive as to how I'd like to see us line up in the playoffs, but I pray we escape the first round.

T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted February 6, 2007 Great scheduling by the NHL, figuring that the Central will come down to the Wings and Preds, and subsequently putting 6 of 8 games in the new year...
Draper4$1 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2007 I hope that the Wings keep battling Nashville tooth and nail for the division title all the way up until the start of the playoffs. It always seems that the teams that have to battle to get in for the last month or two are on a roll when the playoffs start, while the Wings have been coasting for the last month, and come in cold. If they have to battle all the way to the wire to avoid San Jose in the first round it may help give the Wings a boost going in......
Guest Tunbo Batman Report post Posted February 6, 2007 But we won it last year and we all know how that ended... yeah, and 28 other teams who had not won the trophy also did not win the cup. so id rather have the trophy now and maybe the cup later.

Look at their home record last year (27-9-5). And how did they do? They went 1-2 in the postseason. In 2003-2004 (30-7-4), they started great going 3-0 against a #8 seed Nashville (which wasn't anything close to what they are now), but again went 1-2 against Calgary who had a .560 winning percentage on the road. Home and away records me didly. And I actually like the idea of the Sharks 1st round. They'd be tough but if we got passed them, we'd be rolling into round 2. There are no more easy matchups. Last year there were maybe 1 or 2 first round matchups that were gimmes. The rest were all hard fought series'.
wingsdiehard13 33 Report post Posted February 6, 2007 It's vital for us to win the division. If we dont we will most likely end up in fourth and have to play San Jose or Anaheim. If we win the division we could end up playing a team like Dallas, Vancouver, or Minnesota.
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted February 6, 2007 As someone pointed out, the home/road splits don't usually carry over into the postseason. You have to remember that teams generally play all out at home, while they're more likely to take a night off on the road. So teams can get a really good road record just by playing full tilt. In the playoffs, all the teams are playing full tilt pretty much the entire time, so that tactic doesn't get it done. Home ice is definitely an advantage, but I like the idea of starting a playoff series on the road. It's a psychological advantage to do so, I think. Win just one of those games and you've got the split you wanted. Start at home, and nothing less than winning the first two games is acceptable to protect your home ice. Lots more pressure on the home team. Of course, in a game 7, you want home ice. It's just not worth expending too much energy trying to get that top seed. Better to have to win on the road than kill your players trying to get those regular season points. You have to win on the road anyway, it's not like teams usually sweep all their home games. We may still end up going against Carolina in the finals, and still have home-ice advantage. ^^Oh yeah, if we get there.

Yeah, real insignificant, having the best record in the league. You don't score as many goals as they do and give up as few as they do by being an insignificant team, even if you play in the Central. But, I'm sure Nashville colluded with Pitt tonight to lose
