MLive: Lang could be dealt prior to deadline

These guys are professionals. Tkachuk isn't going to let his teammates down just because of what has happened in the past.

This isn't WWF or something like that

But it sure would be more entertaning if it was!!!!!

This saddens me....

A lot of you pick on Lang for being lazy ond sucking, but I don't see that. That man is one of the few who go out every game and put their heart into it. Now people are going to come out and say, "Heart doesn't win games," or something...*Couyzermangh*...I don't care. Win or lose, Lang is a great guy/player.

PS: I am entitled to my opinion... ;)

I have no problem with your opinion BTP, but I think the issue for most people is this: If you can get Peter Forsberg to take Lang's No. 2 center spot and then flip Lang for the assets to land a Todd Bertuzzi, Bill Guerin or Keith Tkachuk -- you do it.

Lang has been decent in the playoffs aside from an excellent Nashville series 3 years ago. His performance looks better because Datsyuk, Shannahan, Hull, Zetterberg (until last season) ect. did absolutely nothing. Lang essentially made his hay on the PP against Edmonton...at even strength he (and Williams) struggled mightly at both ends of the ice.

Trading for prospects and picks is what you do when your team isn't going to make the playoffs.

I have to agree with Matt (no, really, as a mod I have to ;)) that Lang isn't going to be dealt until Holland already has a replacement for him.

Unless Lang has been causing problems in the dressing room or with the coaching staff I'd be shocked if he was moved. Like him or not, he's a major cog on this team. Removing him so close to the playoffs could cause some serious damage to the teams chemistry. If the Wings were struggling I'd put more weight on this rumour but chances are we're going to grab one or two free agents while dealing players like Kindl and/or Hudler along with our 1st round pick and possibly others.

If the Wings were able to get Forsberg and then deal Lang for a top pick and/or prosect which would then be used to get Guerin or Bertuzzi I'd love it. I just don't see it happening. Holland's MO is to NEVER mess with the teams makeup. Only add, never subtract major parts.

There's an exception to every rule and perhaps the rumours about Lang wanting to leave after this year will force a deal. But I don't see it happening.

maybe kenny should look back to 96-97 when the wings traded Coffey and Primeau for Shanny, Coffey won the norris in '95, so I think that was definitely a "messing with a team's make-up" oh yeah, the next season the wings traded the conn smyth winner vernon, and we still won the cup. Proof to the fact that big moves to make big gains require big sacrifices.

But when were those moves performed? Either at the very beginning of the season or during the offseason. This gave the team almost an entire season to gel, not 6 weeks.

And it was well known that Bowman wasn't a Coffey fan and Primeau wanted out. There was no choice but to move them.

Name the last time Holland moved a top 6 forward or top 4 dman in February or later.

Difference = Lang isn't a big sacrifice at this point. If we even get his value back in form of another player, I'd be surprised.

Coffey was expendable thanks to Larry Murphy. Primeau was expendable as there were already 2 franchise centers present and a damn good veteran in Larionov.

i really like Langer

i hope he doesnt go :(

and whats this about bobby lang and babcock not getting along?

They're just rumours so who knows how much truth to it there is. I was listening to XM 204 and one of the analysts they had on there said he heard through the grapevine that Lang will not be signing with Detroit in the offseason because he doesn't like Babcock's style and would like to go to a team where he'd be the #1 centre and get a chance to really use his offensive skills. It really does sound like there's no way on this planet that Lang will be wearing #20 in Detroit next year.

This is a valid complaint from him, I feel. With all due respect to Dano (and none to Willy, who sucks) ol' Bob doesn't really have a lot to work with. In their defense, though (except for Willy's, because he sucks) he's basically floating like what out there and seems totally disinterested after a hot start.

The two may need some time away from each other. :P

Lang was one of our top performers in the playoffs the last two years. Why would they want to get rid of him?

Zetterberg sucked in the playoffs and then scored 6 goals in his only 6 games. Theres no telling, especially with the energy (or lack thereof) and interest Lang has shown this year, that hell continue to perform well. Younger players get better, older players...On top of that, theres rumor after rumor that he hates Babcock (reasons obvious) and he hasnt been the player in the regular season that he has been over his past, oh, 5 seasons.

That being said, I would hate to see Lang go for a pick or something, but if the land Forsberg AND they can land something impressive on top of that (Guerin, Tkachuk, Bert, Roberts, Modin) and need to clear space, I would entirely support trading Lang.

The New York Rangers reportedly have some interest in Lang and a deal would clear some salary cap space for the Wings to make another move (Todd Bertuzzi, Bill Guerin, Ladislav Nagy?) and might even get them a draft pick, a prospect or a depth player in return....

Lang for Shanny?

No? Damn.

:(

While I get so very excited about trades this is the type of thing I hate. Giving up players. I always tell myself DO NOT GET ATTACHED TO PLAYERS. But I always do and I know if Lang gets traded I'm gonna be so freaking sad. I don't think Lang is 'lazy or sucks' I think when he's one his game he's one of the most dominant players. And well the guy ALWAYS shows up in the playoffs, and has been by far one of the better players in the past two post seasons.

I guess though it would make sense for the Wings to trade him now because they have been saying that they most likely wouldn't re-sign him when he becomes a free agent this summer so may as well get something out of it.

I think Lang would work out really well for Atlanta, playing on the top line with Hossa and Kovalchuk would be pretty deadly. Is there anyone there that would be worth picking up?

Slava Kozlov (sure like hell fits Holland's patterns)

Scott Mellanby (I would certainly like him on our team, even more when he's a RW)

and maybe Bobby Holik but I dunno how he's been recently

Mellanby wins my voice here but him for Lang is not necesarilly fair. something

like these two and Maltby and Sim maybe...

It's not really that important, but as a nitpick, Larry Murphy didn't join the team until the trade deadline that year.
