TheLegend19 1 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 (edited) Ok. Tonight is the first time I've been able to see this "great goaltender" MacDonald. Many people on this forum cannot wait until he is the full time Wing's starter. I can. Unless you like goalies that could lead the NBA in rebounds, he isn't very good. This is the 2nd time he's given up 3 goals in the 3rd period. Stay in the AHL. I don't want to see him in a Wing's uniform. Edit: Ok, I'm sorry. 4 goals in the 3rd period. Edit: My bad. 5 goals in the 3rd period. Edited February 13, 2007 by Manny4Prez
J-Swift 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 I don't think many people see as him the future starting netminder of the Detroit Red Wings. I believe that title belongs to Jimmy Howard. MacDonald's merely here to back up Ozzie when he starts, and he's only starting now because of injuries to both our goalies. But yeah, after a solid couple of periods, Joey caved in the third. hockeyfanatic 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 Ok. Tonight is the first time I've been able to see this "great goaltender" MacDonald. Many people on this forum cannot wait until he is the full time Wing's starter. I believe you're thinking of Jimmy Howard. I don't think I've ever seen people saying they can't wait until McDonald is the full-time starter. I don't think many people ever expect Joey to become the starting goaltender of the Wings. Howard was backing him up tonight. With that said, Joey played a great game against the Blues and didn't play bad against the Flames (despite the 3 late goals). He wasn't very good tonight, but neither were a lot of other players. Cut the guy some slack.
bcwingsfan19 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 I think he is a good goalie, but like you said he is pretty inconsistent with rebound control. He didn't get much help from his team tonight either. He seemed pretty solid in the 1st and 2nd, I don't really know what happened after that. He is a good 3rd goalie, but I highly doubt that he is going to be a starter anytime soon.

drw13 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 I noticed it last game too, he gives off so many rebounds. Hes LUCKY he's only given up 6 goals because the defense has really bailed him out on some bad plays in the net, especially one where he was facing toward the net and the puck was behind him. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 Trade him. Howard and Liv are the future. who would want him??? Hes vying for crappiest goaltender in the NHL, ready to take the award from Cloutier. And I dont care how many stellar saves he makes. You are simply not a good goaltender if you give up 5 goals in the third period alone. Thats when he should buckle down more than anything.

akustyk 84 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 push the panic button oh yeah it is such a pleasure nowe seriously... MacDonald screw it big time with goal number 4 if I recall correctly (the one between his legs) but other than that he made a couple of big saves. but to blame him for a loss is as stupid as with Cujo and Flames series back in 2004. it shows utter lack of understanding of the game

Because I've never read any of those things here. At most, there's a couple members who want Joey to be the starter. At most.

Howe's Bony Elbow 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 Joey looks like the second coming of Tim Cheveldae. His play kind of makes you wonder why the Wings were so concerned someone might grab him on waivers if they shipped him to the minors. Hell, we could've signed a Sean Burke if it meant goalie insurance for when Dom inevitably got hurt.

datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 tonight wasn't joey's fault. he was left out to dry big time. the only goal i'd fault him on is umberger's shorty. but lidstrom still should have had better possition on umberger (lids played awful tonight). his rebound control is pretty bad, but that really wasn't the problem tonight. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 It was a soft goal, and at a critical juncture. That one opened the floodgates; it was a huge momentum boost and killed any chance of a comeback. Lidstrom, a rare off game, was caught a bit flat-footed but in the end didn't give him a good shot on goal. That would've been a routine stop for Hasek or Ozzie. wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 point well made Thanks.. Here's something i've been wondering now since hasek and ozzy our both out... when both of them are better should we expect to see ozzy behind the net more often and let hasek rest.. Because there's no question that were going to need a HEALTHY Hasek if were going to go anywhere in the playoffs

That would've been a routine stop for Hasek or Ozzie. joey should have had that goal, no doubt. but he's not responsible for the floodgates openning. the wings completely fell apart and joey didn't have much of a chance on the last three. the wings need to step up. especially when the goalie is a rookie and has like 8 games or whatever to his credit. i think they've come to rely to heavily on the brilliance of hasek. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted February 13, 2007 We'll have to disagree on that one, I guess. After Umberger got that goal, it really looked like it deflated the team. The Flyers were suddenly flying out there and the rout was on. Hasek makes his money making the big stops when it counts; not that it need be said, but Joey is nooo Hasek. And since he is coming back soon, we can rely on him, and carry on as we normally do and win games.
