Cool Picture

if you look at the lighting and amount of skatemarks on the ice, i don't think he is actually warming up for the game. Looks like a photo shoot to me. Interesting stick though.

No, it is not a photo shoot, the picture is as described. If you take the time to look at the ice, that's what it actually looks like, lots of skatemarkes on it.

I'm no expert on sticks, but.....it looks like it's hardly curved at all  is that the point?

Yeah, that's the point. While the straight stick takes away from shooting ability (forehand), it makes for a pretty good backhand, but the real reason he uses a straight stick is for passing, especially passing off the backhand.

If you bother to read the caption, you'll see it says he's warming up before the game against the Isles yesterday.

Yes.

The less curved a stick is, better for back-handers and a more curved stick is better, for wrist shots.

I wonder how Crosby can get a good shot with that stick  ?

it's a pretty cool stick..

do any other players in the league play with that?

most seem to have at least some curve on them

Sundin plays with a flat stick. He's had a great backhand for years now, and the flat stick gives you added control on the backhand. And as someone stated before it's good for passing too.

shame players can't play with a double bended stick for good backhands and forehands...

i guess thats the sacrifice they have to make though

Didn't Leclair have some sort of crazy curve that bended back? I think I remember it coming up by the color guy during some games.

Also Adam Oates used to cut about half the blade of his stick off.

some highlights of crosby and ovechkin, but about 46 seconds they show crosbys shootout goal against montreal, watch the backhand, and look for the waterbottle.

Crosby needs to work on his mule-kick fake there on the shootout goal. It didn't look for a second like he was actually going to shoot it. :P

I occasionally check out the "Frozen Moment" at NHL.com and happened to catch it today.

When first looking at the picture, I thought it was pretty cool, different angle, all you see is Crosby and the ice.

Then I looked at his stick.....check out that curve!!

Im not sure if that's his actually curve... I have a crosby stick that i use and it doesn't look like that one bit.. But then again it could be just a mock stick and his curve shown in that pic is his actually game time stick

A Crosby stick you buy at your local store is not going to have the same curve he uses, it doesn't work that way.

Crosby indeed uses a very straight stick, it's been commented on several times.

Also, if that isn't the actual curve that he uses, why is he skating around the ice with that stick?? :P

No doubt that's to make deflections easier. Holmstrom probably hasn't unleashed a slap shot since the Clinton era.

Easy there, I'm pretty sure that Holmstrom has got a better slapshot than 99% of the people on this forum with any stick you give him. Don't you remember THIS GOAL against St. Louis earlier this season?

And for those who think Homer's got stone hands and can only score on deflections,

of why you're wrong.
