i've got a feeling that at the end of the deadline everyone here will ask "Who the F*** is _______?"....just like last year...who did we get last year at the deadline, I can't remember?

The guy threw SO many rumors out there- I think he mentioned every combination of every FA/Team in the NHL. Including Peca, Samsonov, Luongo, Biron, etc etc to Detroit.

People get down on Holland for getting a "nobody" like Cory Cross but was Jamie Macoun up on the Marquee in Maple Leaf Gardens before he got traded here? It didn't work out so people call him a nobody. And again last year they didn't have that much cap room and they didn't feel like they needed a big name, they were the #1 team in the league and playing damn well, so didn't feel the need to make big changes. This year the second line isn't producing the way you need them to.

Exactly. All he does is throw names out hoping one rumour sticks. I've spoken to people in the media that say he's a nice guy and that he does have some contacts but in the end, most of the time only the two GM's about to make a deal know anything. His contacts could be local reporters, a stick boy, the zamboni driver, etc.

Heck, I actually have a couple of contacts myself. I know a kid that once played in the OHL with a prospect in the AHL. He heard, from him that he said,..... By the time the rumour gets to me who knows how accurate it is? In the end, the NHL is a lot like highschool. Rumours get started because someone heard a name from someones mouth and suddenly it turns into "Crosby's going to Toronto for Bill Berg and Wendel Clarks Explorer".

Eklund is right about .01% of the time and even then it's only because he's mentioned every single name for every single team. I could do the same right now and be right more than he is.

In the end Guerin will probably go to San Jose, Tkachuk to the Rangers and the Wings will trade for Derek Armstrong. What kind of worries me is that Eklund is so wrong so often that these current rumours would mean that we're not going to get either Tkachuk or Guerin. In fact, bet on it if Eklund says so.

Now I'm depressed.

Yup. Although, it wouldn't be a bad idea to juggle lines from time to time incase a line starts to struggle in the playoffs. Bowman did this to perfection. Unfortunately, Babcock hasn't any options to do that at this point.

It seems as though Tkachucks cap number is 5.7 million. With the dumping of Joey, and the possible move back of bonus money. I don't think we can afford him without moving someone else.

I think it's hilarious that everyone disses the guy... they are rumors, not facts. Do you realize how many GM's are throwing around ideas right now trying to see if something sticks. Eklund just talks about what he hears... the guy somehow has some credibility, he is on XM Radio regularly, he got all these beat writers to work with him and he is even getting mention from players (Martin Lapointe) and broadcasters (Emrick). It's just fun to speculate and this guy seems to know more than the average fan.

The only reason I diss him is because I look forward to his stupid rumors due to the excitement..so when he changes it every 5.2 seconds AFTER I get majorly excited then I get pissed. That is all.

I would not mind us getting both guerin and Ryan smyth but i could deal with Tkachuk. Ryan smyth for a couple reasons the grit and also he can put the puck in the net and number 2 he is only 30 years old so he still has some good years left in him.

That is absurd for a rental player, and I don't like Tkachuck enough to part with that much.

The future is just as important as the present guys, and I think the Wings could win a cup as is. Obviously I want to improve, but not at this price. Samelsson return might be enough to wake up the second line. Only guys I would sell the farm for are Gomez and Smyth. I doubt either will happen.

he acts like he's got inside sources, but all the stuff he says is either totally obvious or so ridiculous that it's meaningless.

I don't get why people read his site or pay any attention to him. In my book he has zero usefull information because it is all speculation, and not very informed speculation at that.

For some reason people give Eklund credibility just by virtue of his site existing, even though he's done nothing to actually be a credible source for anything.

Anyone could come to this site and get a better handle on what players are available, what teams they're likely headed to, and if it's realistic or not.

about eklund, we don't know.

we just don't know if he spits out randomness, or if he's got a few people reporting on things gms are actually throwing around but never see light. we just don't know, and in the tradition of human nature, when we don't know, we speculate. then when we speculate, we become sure of our own opinions.

we don't know if he's full of it. there are dozens of possibilities but those who hate the guy seem like they're focusing on just one, because of either some past disappointment or failed expectation.

For me it's not any past disappointment or failed expectations. And I don't even hate the guy. Anyone is welcome to post whatever the hell they want on the internet, that's the beauty of it.

But he's the classic example of if you build it, they will come. He makes a big deal about being this anonymous blogger with inside sources, he throws out forecasts more generic than a weatherman. There's no reason to put any more stock in anything he says than anyone else on the planet who watches hockey.

I have no problem with people reading his site or paying attention to it. I just get tired of it being a reason to start threads here and have Eklund cited as a legitimate source.

I could post "Sidney Crosby traded to Detroit for Lilja and Williams" on my homepage. It doesn't mean someone should start a thread here called "Crosby a Wing!"
