SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 The Boston Bruins added some goaltending depth on Saturday, claiming Joey MacDonald off waivers from the Detroit Red Wings. The move will create about $117,000 in salary cap room for the Wings, who are reportedly trying to land a top-six forward by Tuesday's 3pm et trade deadline. MacDonald is 1-5-1 this season with a 3.46 goals-against average and .872 save percentage. Well, good luck Joey Mac... This is interesting, I wonder if the Wings were counting on this to happen? Hopefully Liv wasn't a trade piece because now that makes it harder to accomplish if he was.
zetterbergfan 23 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 If Liv was a trade piece, which I doubt...it won't be affected by this. Not with Jimmy Howard in Grand Rapids, and Daniel Larssons in Sweden. The Wings are deep in goalie prospects. Minus Macdonald.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 have to say i'm suprised...i didn't think he'd be picked up...gl to him though, he's got much more chance of playing in Boston than here

FinWing 26 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 (edited) But isn't it pretty much the same situation in Boston since they already have Thomas and Toivonen? I guess they don't have anyone better than Joey beyond those two. EDIT: Sauve seems to be their man too nowadays. Edited February 24, 2007 by FinWing
interminded 1 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 Well, good luck to Joey. Thomas is Boston's clearcut #1, but he might battle for the second spot. Toivonen has a hard time in his sophomore year.
LidstromIsASuperhero 29 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 Its kind of aggravating that we held onto the guy all year just to waive him in the end. If I were Joey I'd be pissed.
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 not surprised. He will at least get to play in Providence...Hope you can catch on their Joey
FinRedWing 172 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 I wonder if they'll try to waive Joey too? It's either him or Toivonen.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 Good for MacDonald. Hopefully he'll get more PT in the Boston system and who knows, in time maybe backup to Tim Thomas. Best of luck to him.
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 MLIVE in Khan's blog says that Boston told Mickie-Dee's he would see some action so I guess he is staying up and Toivonen is going back to P-town.

Guest GodofHockeyStevieY19 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 Im actually glad to see this. Joey was alright and all. But this is gonna pave the way quicker for Jimmy Howard to get some more NHL starts. And saving that money for the cap is definitely another signal that we are gonna make a move any time now. I just hope we are smart about who we intend to give up. Make the right move Kenny!

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 24, 2007 Don't forget about Tukka Rask...... ...and Brian Finley. Though his health (groin) certainly is a concern. As a former top 10 draft pick, his groin has really slowed his development down.

So their goaltending future seems quite solid (and Finnish ), Joey is just supposed to be an insurance goalie for some time. At first I thought you were going for Concrete Blonde's "Joey" but then I realized you changed the name and suddenly I could hear the tune in my head. Not that I've ever listened to James Taylor or anything.
