haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 You mean the same Tampa Bay that has the third highest average attendance in the league and a 100.4% sell out rate? That's only because they have the nerve to have affordable ticket prices, so it doesn't count, remember?

CrossCheck24 2 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) Any city that currently has the NFL and MLB but no hockey. Um, That would be at least Cleveland and Cincinatti, and I know for sure that neither of those cities give a flying hockey puck about the NHL. Ive lived in Cleveland for 13 years, and they are trying the third IHL/AHL team next winter. Edited March 20, 2007 by CrossCheck24

BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 OK, Nashville, Florida, and Atlanta then... hmm they are all in the south arent they? Should the Islanders, Blues, Blackhawks, and Bruins lose their team, considering that they're all behind Florida, Nashville, and Atlanta for average attendance? Those aren't southern teams...but they have poor attendance. I'm so confused. I thought every team above the mason-dixon line sold out every night. That's only because they have the nerve to have affordable ticket prices, so it doesn't count, remember? Silly me. I think I'm going to start a petition for Ilitch to raise ticket prices. That way we Wings fans can prove that we're true fans. Not like those johnny-come-latelys in Tampa that only go because of low ticket prices.

NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 "I'm not talking about expansion here.......... but if you could put an NHL team in any city without having to worry about any financial reasons or whatever where would you put a team?" Seth 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 you all are def wrong bout Anchorage & Maine. As someone whose lived/lives in both thats the fact. Seattle Quebec Portland Sacramento Cincinnati Baltimore Las Vegas (Cincinnati, and Baltimore would be smart in terms of the NHL getting into the Urban market)
TheLegend19 1 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 Seattle Maine (would have a big draw) Portland Milwaukee I like the idea of Maine. U of Maine has a strong hockey program and has very good attendance every season. Milwaukee, unfortunately, is too close to Chicago. They won't put a team in Milwaukee simply because there wouldn't be enough support, and if anyone is going to care about hockey, they'd drive the 1 hour trip to see the Blackhawks. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 Biloxi, Mississippi. Seriously though, I'd like to see maybe one more canadian team. It's hard to really pick a decent canadian city though, since most of the bigger ones are right next to Toronto or Ottawa. Most other citys just aren't big enough to support an NHL team. Maybe another team in Texas would work out too. Something like Houston might be a good decesion, since I heard they have a nice arena down there too.

Salviaman 104 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) Houston, Texas. Only because I lived there for 13 years. Would love to see a NHL team eventually bring home a cup to my birth city. Not only does Houston have a awesome arena, they have recently surpassed Chicago as the 3rd largest city in America. Plus there is something like 7 million people living in Houston. Would love to see NHL put a team there, but if they relocate Nashville there I would not support them at all. Edited March 20, 2007 by Salviaman

Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted March 20, 2007 I'm not talking about expansion here.......... but if you could put an NHL team in any city without having to worry about any financial reasons or whatever where would you put a team? whichever one replaces Nashville. Um, That would be at least Cleveland and Cincinatti, and I know for sure that neither of those cities give a flying hockey puck about the NHL. Ive lived in Cleveland for 13 years, and they are trying the third IHL/AHL team next winter. I grew up just South of Cleveland. Put it this way, the reason i'm a Wings fan is because of the amount of love Cleveland has for hockey. I did meet Gordie Howe and Gund Arena a long time ago so that was pretty cool though. Anyway, I live in Cincinnati now and not only do they not care, they don't even know about hockey. However, there are a couple of pretty solid high school teams down here. Still, its a far cry from what I would like it to be.

elriqo28 2 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) Please tell me you are kidding. There's a reason these three lost their teams. yeah, bad ownership.... I agree with an Alaska team, would be neat to have a team way up there. Seattle Quebec Saskatch (representing the province, not 1 city) Maine Wisconsin Connecticut Sault Ste. Marie, MI It would be great to see another team in Michigan, but Sault St. Marie just isn't big enough. Infact if the whole U.P. was in Sault St. Marie, it probably still wouldnt be big enough... Winnipeg Portland, Maine or Oregon Omaha Nebraska Sioux Falls, SD Another team in Minnesota...they are the twin cities...have two teams, I mean they are "the state of hockey"!!!! Mighty Wings 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_1...areas_in_Canada http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unite...ropolitan_areas Based on the list of Canadian cities, I think I wouldn't mind seeing Quebec and Winnipeg get teams. Based on US cities, there's quite a bit. Houston, Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, KC, Indy? Edited March 20, 2007 by Mighty Wings

I did meet Gordie Howe and Gund Arena a long time ago so that was pretty cool though. I think Cleveland would be a great market for a team. Probably better off than Columbus. I say this because Columbus is such nothing city when you really look at it. There isn't all that much there. Plus Cleveland has a major sports team in every sport except the NHL. Columbus has the Jackets and that's it. I know the Jackets do get a decent draw fan wise, but I still think the team would serve better in Cleveland. Not to mention that the Drew Carey Show was one of my favorite shows when it was still on. It's almost impossible to find re-runs on anymore, since TBS doesn't show it as much. Still good though. Winged Scooter 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 Maine and Alaska would both be super cool to see get NHL franchises, only problem, population...I don't think either of those cities are big enough to consistently support a Pro Franchise. Anchorage has a population of 274,000 , and Portland , Maine (it's biggest city) come is in at a mere 63,000. It would be nice to see a team relocate to Canada, but unless something drastic happens I can't see that happening either. The most likely canidates for any type of relocation/expansion would probably be Kansas City, Houston, Seattle, or Portland, OR. (probably in that order too...) StaticWithABeat 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 I wish the NHL would've just stopped expanding in 92-93...24 teams, four 6-team divisions, perfect league structure IMO. There are at least half a dozen current NHL cities that don't deserve teams and maybe two or three non-NHL cities that do.

SweWings 45 Report post Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) Stockholm, Sweden Berlin, Germany Helsinki, Finland Moscow, Russia My first choice wouldn't be Stockholm to be honest. The arena there sucks even if it's quite big. Thing is there's enough support in Sweden for a couple NHL-size teams. My hometown regularly sells out every match - only approx 12 000 but considering the city is only 500k... EDIT: I forgot to add where in the US/Canada I'd love a team. Well to be honest i think the nhl should shrink. Edited March 20, 2007 by SweWings
