Say no to Avs

Now I know how much some of you would like to see Avalanche in the playoffs and I would for the rivelary to grow again but in case we get 1st again this year I would actually rather face the slupping Flames. I mean everytime the herioc team makes the playoffs they go far. Like Ahnihiem, Calgary and Edmonton who all took us out. I just wouldnt want to face a hot team coming into the playoffs. Now i know its still early to tell who we will face but it seems to me it will be likely one of these 2. So again if we do come first in our conferance I would really like to play the Flames who have been playing of crap lately then the team who didnt give up and performed a miracle. Of course if we face the flames I can actually go to a game :P

Either team we would have to play will be tough. If Calgary holds on, it just shows that Kipper is playing good and they are playing a desparate game. A game that would transfer into a gritty hard nosed game in the playoffs.

I would rather play Colly. They wouldnt beat the hell out of us and I don't believe that Budaj is a Conn Smythe canidate. Kipper on the other hand is, and the flamers would beat the s*** out of our team.

I'm just stating that if the Wings did match up against the Flames in the first round, our players would be pretty battered if they moved on. Calgary isn't as physical as they used to be, but they are still much tougher than Colorado, and they have a better playoff goalie.

Avs might be hot right now,but Budaj (or Theorode) isn't Roloson/Kipper/Giguere-type of game stealer IMO.

Neither were Giggy nor Roloson until they faced us in the playoffs. <_< You never know.

I would love to see a wings avs round 1. I also think it would be a bit easier than going up against Calgary. Besides, you know what they say, all streaks end eventually, and that goes for Calgary's slump as of late as well as Colorado's invincibility. I believe we have a much better winning history against the avs anyway.

I would still consider Giggy a good goalie regardless.

Roloson is overrated. Nobody really considers the fact that in last years playoffs the Oilers played a trap, forcing the Wings to take Samulesson esque shots from nowhere. It was basically that way when they played the Sharks and Ducks too. The Oilers trapped, forcing the opposing team to take shots that only Dan Cloutier would let in.

Calgary plays Nashville tonight. They can do us all a favor with a win in regulation.... Another nail in the Avs coffin and two less points for Nashville in the race for the Central.

Oh yes, Giguere is the better of those two and that playoff series against us was no fluke. Roloson didn't have to stand on his head a whole lot but he did outplay Manny.

Budaj is 9-0-1 in his last ten games. That is FAR better than any of those goalies. Your Kipper and Flames are playing .500 hockey and are going to be ousted out of the playoffs. Also, to be fair, the Avs have one of the worst defenses in the league (Ex: Brett Clarke is their best defensemen). So don't get too down on Budaj, for a 25-26 year old starting in his first real year, he's having a hell of a year.

My vote is for the Av's I think we have their number, plus for whatever the reason the trip to Denver doesn't seem to effect us like those west coast swings do. You would think it would be harder with the altitude and all. :D

I don't care who the Wings play in the first round, it's pick your poison.

If it's Calgary, it's the West coast annoyances.

If it's Colorado, it's getting an extremely hot team who are already playoff-ready and have gotten experience fighting tooth and nail to get into the playoffs.

If it's Minnesota, they have good defense.

And so on, and so forth.

No matchup is going to be a pretty one, for any team.

Any number of first round matchups are possible. We could even end up playing the Canucks in the first round. You never know. I honestly think our best shot would be against Dallas but once we get Zetts back I know we could get past Calgary, even if it takes 7 games. But, that's assuming we win the division and 1st overall, which probably won't be decided until the last couple of games of the season.

You have a point, but look below. I think Edmonton & Anaheim had better defense (and playing system) than the Avs have now.

And that's exactly why I'm not scared of them,if great defense doesn't directly win championships - it certainly helps a lot.

 Love that quote. :D

Yes, I believe we're going to face the Sharks, which will be a ***** of an opponent.. if we don't get our s*** together quick the Blues could probably give us all we could handle in a 7 game series. :hehe:

I wouldnt worry about the AVS I would worry more about the wings losing 1 goal games and recently not being able to put teams away

I dont want to face calgary in the first round. Honestly I think the best situation for Detroit is to finish 4th and play Dallas in the first round. Detroit owns Turco.

Calgary scares me...actually all 8 teams scare me, but Dallas probably the least.
