TSN Player Rankings

Hank has been out for a month and is higher than Dats and a few other hot players. Anyone else see a flaw in this?

I have been trying to figure out the formula used in those. One thing I have figured out is that it is a per-game rating. Meaning not playing a game doesn't hurt your rating, only playing badly or not playing MUCH.

Hudler being so high among rookies given his limited ice time per game is nice to see, though. If Hudler played the same kind of time Malkin, etc. do, basically double what Hudler actually has played this season, and if you assume he would have put up numbers at the same rate, he'd have 30 goals and 44 points, and be a +28...which would likely put him 4th in TSN's rankings, due to what appears to be a huge bonus given to defensemen just for being defensemen.

Which you really shouldn't do as it doesn't work like that. Double his ice time, he'll probably have more points, but doubling ice time doesn't mean doubling points.

Who cares? Does it really bother you? To me, these are almost as bad as Power Rankings. They hold no bearing whatsoever on the standings, so why let them get to you.

If these rankings are on a per-game ratio, than its not surprising at all the Z is still ahead of Dats.

Eh, these type of rankings (polls) whatever are always up for debate and often times silly.

*offtopic*--- Tsn does crack me up sometimes though, on Crosby's bio you can tell it'd kill them to come up with some sort of flaw for him, even his flaw is a backhanded coplement.

Flaws Could probably stand to shoot the puck more often, so as to take better advantage of his goal-scoring prowess.

 Not saying it's not true, but it's not really a "flaw".

Crosby is almost like a Datsyuk... Except Canadian and not as brilliant on the ice as him. Crosby and Datsyuk both need to shoot more and score more goals but that is now how they play. Which is silly really.

Maybe you should watch Crosby a little more. He had 39 goals as a rookie and has 35 goals so far this year. He has a total of 74 goals in 155 games so far in his career, which compares to Datsyuk's 106 goals in 357 games. Though, Crosby should still shoot more.

In terms of not being as brilliant on the ice...again, not so sure about that. I would be willing to bet that Crosby has scored more highlight reel goals this year than anyone else. Off the top of my head, I can think of 5 or 6 spectacular ones.

Edit: Just for interest sake, if Crosby continues to score goals at the same pace throughout his career and plays the same number of games as Yzerman, he'd finish his career with 723 goals....not bad for a guy that doesn't score many goals. Of course, who knows how it will play out. I would think he'll score more goals (50+ some years maybe, possibly) and he'll score less towards the end of his career. Point is, based on his current career goal totals, I wouldn't say he doesn't score that much, though, it is a common comment.

I think they both do need to shoot more, but as far as their on-ice dominance, it is pretty comparable.

Really? I disagree, a lot. I think Datsyuk is a great player, but Crosby is clearly better (in my mind anyway).

in the start of the season i would have agreed but, the way that datsyuk has been playing i think he has a much as an imoact on the wings as crosby does for the pens

They are pretty much the same player, except one gets bashed as the Evil Sergei Jr. and one gets praised as Jesus Jr.

If Pavel was the only star player on his team, he would have all those points too. But he has to share the puck with guys like Z, Lidstrom, and now Bert.

Datsyuk is not even close to Crosby, nor is he nearly as important to his team.

Take Datsyuk off of the WIngs and we still have a good team. Some other players get more prime ice time and we wouldn't see much of a drop-off in scoring, if any.

Take Crosby off of the Pens and they are back to being one of the worst teams in the league.

This is taking nothing away from Datsyuk, he is a great player of course. Comparing him to Crosby is blatant homerism though.

NOBODY is guilty of homerism the way that TSN is. I remember a time earlier this season that all 6 Canadian teams were in the Top 8 or something like that... and not to say that Ottawa isn't a good hockey club, as their record the last two months indicate, but there was a time earlier in the year that someone was at the top of the rankings "because" of their 6-3-3 record in the last 12. I almost fell off my chair.

Better believe that if it was a Canadian team, having the exact same success and record, they would for sure be in the top 3. If not number 1. I actually like tsn, but their canadian bias is overwhelmingly obvious.

OMG hahaha. They have Ottawa at number 1??? LOL The 4th seed in the east. With a whopping 98 points. Yet somehow they are number 1. Good lord. Most canadian biased site ever.

i love dats,..i really do, but there not even in the same universe.

by 28 crosby will be twice the player he is now, and that is very very scary.
