Me eating my crow

Back in the beginning of the season, Hasek had a bad game, and since I don't really like him that much, I went a little crazy on the anti-Hasek rants I am so used to making. Since then Dom has done nothing but earn some respect for me. I have never denied that he is good, just stated that I don't like his style of play and think it harms him at times. BUT he has eliminated the un-needed flop arounds that were more prevelant early in his career. He has also acted much more mature this year. He has taken some criticism by Babcock and not been affected by it, and stood behind the call to use Ozzie in Nashville.

He has respected the coaching staff, been responsible with his health, and eliminated his negative attitude that he had back when he was in Buffalo.

Dom you have earned some respect from me, I still am not a huge fan, but I respect you more now.

And Puckloo, you were right to call me out at the time...Dom is not the same player he was when I hated him back in Buffalo...and he definatly is not the same person...

Again I say, I'm still no Hasek fan, but I'm not a Hasek hatter anymore.

Oh God....Loo's gonna go apesh*t! :P

She'll be lovin' this.

Yeah well I was on a Tigers board, and Maggs made a few bad plays today and everybody started flipping out saying Maggs wasn't worth s***, and I was like man why be so negative on a guy like that for a few bad plays, and then I realized I did the same, and realized that I shouldn't have.

Isn't that part of having people respect your opinons, admitting when you were wrong?

Don't get me wrong Oz is still #1 in my heart, and I do still think that he could be the #1 goalie here next year, and I think he deserves the shot....BUT Hasek is the clear #1 right now on the team, and he has earned my respect, and from all the negative things I have said about the guy, I deserve to give him some credit where credit is due

Absolutely, and kudos to you for doing it!

Not many people will admit when they're wrong here on LGW. They'll pull one of these:

People had a right to bash Magglio. That f***** almost singlehandedly blew the game for the Tigers. He should've been charged those runs.

Actually, he shouldn't have, because Grilli and Rodney both suck balls too, so I'm hoping those two get cut. I just wish the Tigers would learn what a defensive switch is.

good post. just two thing...

1. the "unneccesary flops" weren't unneccesary. with hasek, everything is calculated.

2. the comment on how he's a different person is just kind of ridiculous. there's no way we cna even come close ot knowing that.

C'mon, the man is eating crow already. Don't insist that he also cooks it to your recipe. :)

RussianSwede, it takes a big man to admit he was wrong. Respect!

To be fair, Hasek has indeed shown some of his little, somewhat unnecessary, quirks this season. He's gotten burned for wandering more than once, and there was a span of a couple weeks just a little while ago where that "poke-check at the blueline" play of his wasn't working for some reason.

But he's played great for most of the season, which is really what I think a lot of us expected out of him if he was able to stay healthy. As of right now, he is top five in every major goaltending statistical category, with the exception of save percentage, but the .913% he holds as of right now isn't bad at all.

I've been happy with his conduct off the ice as well. From all accounts, him and Ozzie seem to be getting along fine. And after Babcock called him out for his embellishment against the Flames, he really seemed to elevate his game, which is contrary to what all the Canadian hockey analysts thought would happen.

I just hope Dom can stay healthy in the post-season. Playing almost every other night can't be easy for a 40-year old with injury problems over the past couple seasons.

Here is me, going apesh*t:

It takes a lot of character to say you've changed your opinion, russianswede919293. I won't go so far as to say you were wrong, since 'wrong' is relative. I am happy if his behavior and play have swung you over a bit to his side.

Dom is quirky and he plays his own game. I say, let him. As for his character on and off the ice, he's never been a bad person, he just isn't always politically correct in his approach. A great deal of the scorn he's attracted is the result of the media's "analysis" of his motives - as if they have a clue about what he's really thinking and doing.

Dom is who he is... and dead-honesty is one of his faults/virtues. You might not like what he says, but he means it all. I loved his comments about the Wings beating Columbus and how they weren't very good, so the Wings had better beat them. But the Stars were much more skilled team, so the Wings needed to play harder to beat them. Of course it's true. Ouch! Pure Hasek.

I could be wrong, but I swear he often says what he is thinking and in this case, pretends that he doesn't know how much it riles up the other team. Far from those comments being a mistake on his part, it's calculated, I believe. He wanted Columbus mad at him so he would get lots of shots and action, pre-playoffs, from a non-playoff team. He got it. Happy Dom! ;)

And thanks, russianswede919293. Ozzie will be proud that you like his buddy Dom a little better now. Ozzie is a big part of why Dom has been so good, by being so supportive and being a great colleague. Yay, Oz!!

that's good...I hear it's the mercury that makes you crazy. :P:D

brutus

oops, meant hater...

And I agree with the fact that he does still need to stay in the crease more often, but everybody has a few soft spots.

Dom has played fantastic. In reality though, I don't think he thought that he could rebound this way after last year. I mean, he knew he would be solid, but all around the job Babcock has done this year with everybody is simply amazing. Loosing the heart and soul of this team, many people, including experts felt that this year would be the demise of the wings.

They may not be the toughest or grittiest team. But there is a lot of fight in this dog and adding Calder and Tuzzi only make them that much more dangerous..

Do you really have to be like that?

Be fair, when I first got on here, I believe two years ago, I was 14. I said stupid things. I told someone to suck it.

Give him a few years to grow up.

Great post and thread.

I haven't been a Dom fan either, but he's played GREAT this season and deserves all the props. Ozzie has been great as well. We have the two hottest goaltenders in the league. No other team can say they have a goaltending tandem that both have a stanley cup ring. TAKE THAT! haha seriously though..I don't even mind Dom anymore. I definitely don't dislike him.

And no one better be bashing on Mags!

Dumbest thread of the season.

Smartest comment of a season! :P

..............................................................................

it may not be the most exciting thread of the year (as someone cared to point out), but this forum is certainly a better forum because of it. It shows class.

Edit: I still havent gotten used to the fact that if you post two in a row, they merge.

Dumbest thread of the season.

Haha, your 98 posts clearly show you havent been around to see some of the threads this season. If it is more to your liking I could start another thread about 'who we will face in the playoffs' or 'why lang is lazy', perhaps and 'Why cant Dats produce in the Playoffs?' Those ought to be a nice relief for ya.

Dumbest thread of the season.

Have you not seen the flurry of ridiculous trade proposals people made before the deadline? Someone actually went on here and proposed we trade Williams, Lilja, and a draft pick for Ryan Smyth. And that's just the beginning. Go take a look back at some of the just pure stupid trade proposals people made.

At least some people can admit they are wrong.

Its a hard for most people to do, so even though I wasn't related in that discussion in any which way, I appreciate people such as yourself!

Good job!

I don't understand some of you guys. Must you be rude? Don't like it, don't read it. Simple as that.

I agree, HC. It shows real character on russianswede's part to come here and admit he may have been too hard on Dom. I really appreciate his honesty and willingness to step up.

There is plenty of negativity in our little community, sometimes. This is still the best NHL forum in existence, and the reason is the quality of 99% of the posters. If you don't think a thread is worth commenting on, just pass it by and say nothing. It's not dumb to speak your mind, if you have something constructive to say.

Well I remember back when I heard we had signed Dom again this year; all I could think of was the goalie circus that was Joseph-Manny-Hasek a couple years back. I must admit, i wasn't thrilled to think what could happed if Hased got injured again, we go out and get someone else, then Hasek comes back and Oz has to sit inbetween them a la Manny. But.... Dom has been good, better than I expected even, and despite his antics, has come up huge on many occasions. I'll share some of that crow with you (i like mine rare) and hope Dom can continue into the playoffs.

Side note: Osgood has been better than I expected as well. That last Nashville game was a gem to be sure.
